I was referred to this place by a friend in March 2017. I worked with the son Joe on fixing the tires and the process was relatively painless. A few weeks later I needed rear brakes, went back and worked with Joe and again, the process was relatively painless. On both occasions Joe took his time in explaining what was wrong and how they planned on fixing it. He explained the cost differences etc. ( both jobs totaled somewhere around $800.00usd)
Now in April 2017, I went back because my AC was not blowing cool air. I received a call from Derrick (who is not the most personable or approachable person) informing me that the car was ready and that I can come and pick it up (please keep in mind that no one called me prior to 'fixing' the problem and getting the go ahead to complete the job)...It was only $105 so I said fine I will not fuss about that... I went paid for the service and drove off. Before I even reached the KFC on the corner I realized the A/C was not blowing any cooler than it originally was when I dropped it off. I went back to Smart Tire and told Derrick that I did not think the problem was fixed. After an hour he returns and tells me that I need a new condenser and compressor (a job that will cost $1460). Now, I start to wonder... wth did I pay for??? When I checked the receipt I paid for compressor gas and 79.99 for them to recharge the system. Derrick quickly informs me that I will have to pay for that again.... Now, I start to think... After they put the gas in it they should have put the dye in to see if there was a leak BEFORE recharging it. So now, I was charged 79.99 because they did not do their due diligence. Congrats because now Smart Tire has lost a customer and I consider them thieves/ sloppy workers. They should have never recharged it until they put the dye to check it.
1. Apparently Joe is on vacation (Derrick told me it was his day-off)...
2. Would this have gone differently if Joe was there? Probably...
3. Clearly the mechanics were hurrying up to do nothing as it was not that busy and some were even lurking around in the waiting area...
4. Since, I was told the car was done when it wasn't, I had to charge work time to sit and wait for the second diagnosis (major inconvenience) read more
