I started watching Pawn Stars and Hardcore Pawn on TV. I remembered that we have a couple pawn shops here in KC so I went looking. The Golden Nugget was my first stop. I wasn't sure what to expect when I walked in but I became a fan pretty quick. I was greeted by a friendly employee who right away put me at easy. I walked around the store and even though it doesn't seem as "Hollywood" as the TV places there was lots of good stuff here. I met the owner and he was super helpful I asked him how it worked and he gave me the ins and outs. No big secrets its like a garage sale in a store and when you find something you like you can make an offer to purchase. Also if you have items to sell they both buy and pawn. I didn't get into all the pawn rules because that's not why I was there but they do that. The store is on Troost and it has some off street parking on the south side and there is street parking all around. The store is clean and the employees are helpful. Small warning at least one of the employees I saw was carrying a handgun. I asked about this and they are certified and it is for protection. I am a firm believer that it is probably a visual deterrent and I understand that. Stop in and say Hi to Jim and the guys and make him an offer on something. I will be back. read more

I received great service from the manager. The brother was very welcoming and efficient. Unfortunately, his young sister assistant wrote up the contract for $10 less than i was supposed to receive. I didn't feel like arguing over $10 and left without complaining. I went back the next day. The young tattooed assistant was very efficient and offered me the appropriate amount and she sealed the deal with no problems. I visited two other pawn shops in the area and found Smart pawn to be the right one for my needs. The other two shops gave me misinformation and showed a lack of interest. read more

Their customer service is poor and the workers are liars. I lost something that was sentimental to me due to an error on their end. I received no apology! Then they told me that I had a store credit in the amount of $53 after paying on a layaway for over 6 months. I highly suggest not to do business here. read more

District manager thinks he is a know it all, and knows what my stuff is worth after I've already had it appraised, I should have checked their reviews before coming. I advise to not come to this pawn shop read more

I guess the ONLY reason to go here is to buy or sell a gun. The security guard out front doesn't let you in without interrogation. A beat up 12 year old microwave was $400...hey, can't let that leave or they won't look legit. Everything was priced at unrealistically high prices that no one would ever pay for any reason. My friend was shopping for a guitar and she tried not to blurt out obscenities when turning over the tags. Jewelry might be ok, but even if it were, I'd never get it here. This place gave me the creeps. read more

I would first like to know that I am legally blind and I mentioned this several times to a customer representative and that was why I needed a 17in laptop. there was an HP laptop Advertised as a 17.1 Inch and I mentioned to the customer representative that it didn't look like it was 17 in however he insisted it was I looked it over as best I could and thought that for $135 should have been a good deal if it was 17 in but when I got home it wasn't any bigger than my 15.6 inch laptop. so I brought it back to get my money back today. they refused to give me a refund even after I mentioned that it was advertised as a 17 inch but it wasn't any bigger than my 15 inch computer. the employees said the best they could do was buy it back for $70. that's not the way to do business if you ask me. they knew I was visually impaired, it was falsely advertised as a 17 in, I returned it within just a few days in the same condition that they gave it to me. read more

I drive by this pawn shop often and keep thinking I should stop and see what they have. Some great prices on tools was my main motivation. There wasn't a lot on the show floor. The gun collection is quite huge. The prices do not reflect used items at all. Everything I looked at could be bought new for not much more and without the concern of used quality. They obviously are not concerned with sales, just interest on loans for items. read more

Business owner do not shop here! Dishonest staff. Recently went on a Saturday to purchase an item. Was originally quoted $10. After Glen spoke to someone else in the back he raised the price. Refuses to honor a sales tax exemption certificate. Most unpleasant. Other pawn shops are a little friendlier. Customer service is not very friendly. Glen said they do not honor resale certificates. Not recommended. read more

If there was an option for zero stars, that's what I would have selected. The employees at this pitiful store are lazy, rude and incompetent. To say the least. The manager had agreed to pay $75 and took down all of my info and then scammed me out of the money for my apple watch after I showed him multiple times that it was reset, not on activation lock, capable of syncing to any phone etc..it became obvious things were starting to turn downhill. The detestable and ignorant "manager" (who the heck put him in charge? lmao) told me they closed in 3 minutes when it was 5:40 (they close at 6) and then proceeded to have one of his employees "escort" me out of the store. I was skeptical about the store before I came in based on the reviews, and now I know why. I'm never even one to write reviews, but that is just how much of a joke this place is. It's a front and a scam. Incredibly obvious too. I have no respect for anyone in this organization. Lower than the scum of the earth. And plain stupid. You can't coach dumb. Maybe that answers my question above. Worst experience I've ever had at a pawn shop. Pathetic. read more

Went in today to return an item. When I bought it I spoke to the employee to make sure I had time to return it because I wasn't sure if I Wanted the particular model of speaker I was buying or if a portable boombox style. I elected to go with the boom box and when I tried to take it back to the store they told me no. That took me by surprise because I was very explicit with the lady working there that I would only buy the item if I had the opportunity return it. When I tried explain that I had had this conversation he told me that she no longer work there and just continued to interrupt me. in their defense there was a disclaimer on the receipt that I hadn't read that said items are purchased as is. But the point is, I left feeling unheard, dismissed, and cast aside. Not a huge deal because it wasn't a very expensive speaker and I'll just gift it to someone but I certainly won't be shopping here anymore. read more

My friend was wanting to buy back her wedding ring. She has been paying for it now for a couple of weeks. She called ten minutes before they closed at 6pm and let them know she was heading over to pay off the ring. I rushed her over and arrived at 6:01. The guy is inside and the open sign on. Pretty sad that's how they treat customers. One minute late! Really? Guess they will make another $6 on the ring. NICE WORK SMART PAWN!!!!!! I will not recommend this place to anyone. We all know they are in business to make money. read more
