RACISM, RETALIATION, DISRESPECT, AND UNPROFESSIONALISM Despite paying over $22,000 a year ($2,000/month) to live in their property, we were forced to endure 144 days--including an entire summer--without a functioning HVAC system. The conditions were unbearable and absolutely uninhabitable. I reached out multiple times asking for repairs, but they took minimum to no accountability; only providing a portable unit in a small bedroom which didn't cool the entire home to sending a technician out to repeatedly applying a ban-aid. The Abshure Realty Group had prior knowledge of the broken HVAC and instead of immediately replacing it they put us thru the ringer... Eventually, I filed a lawsuit to seek justice for the hardship we endured--and that's when things got worse. Instead of taking responsibility, The Abshure Realty Group retaliated against us. I made several good faith offers to work things out, even stating I'd be willing to drop the lawsuit if they just resolved the issue fairly. They refused. They used the fact that we withheld just one month of rent--which we believed was justified due to the unlivable conditions--as grounds to file a wrongful eviction against us. At the time I wasn't aware of NC's law stating that tenants cannot withhold rent, which is biased and allows landlords to take advantage of tenants and still get paid.. After paying rent to the courts for months, I eventually even offered to pay the one month's rent to settle the account but asked to have the eviction dropped, again they refused...and kept the case going.... In addition to that, we were charged multiple late fees during our tenancy, many of which were unfair or occurred during times when they were clearly in the wrong. After we vacated the property last month in May, they even charged us rent for June's rent, which was completely unjustified... we weren't even in the property in June. We moved prior to the Sheriff's coming and I guess that made them mad that they couldn't capitalize off our personal belongings. To make matters worse, I received a RACIST text message (attached) from KRISTA ABSHURE herself--sent to me by mistake. That message spoke volumes about how they truly viewed us as tenants and explained why they didn't want to settle... she didn't want us there! She didn't know that her minority employee David Michael had approved a "Black family". This was offensive, dehumanizing, and heartbreaking. But I'm sure she will have David deny it all in their reply. Our family was treated with complete disregard and disrespect! After a year of paying rent faithfully and trying to resolve things peacefully, we were met with retaliation, racism, and a retaliatory eviction . Did we have late payments? Yes... did we pay the late fees? yes... When we moved into the property we had just relocated to Raleigh and had some issues adjusting, but everything was communicated to Krista and her staff when I knew rent would be late... She and her staff could care less but they took our money and made multiple threats of eviction from day one! This company isn't a fair company and has no remorse for real-life situations... obviously .... they cared less that we sat in the heat... I'm writing this review so others can be aware and think twice before trusting Abshure Realty Group with their housing needs. What happened to us should not happen to any family. I will update this review as this court case continues and we seek JUSTICE!

After months of talking about buying a house and getting out of wasting money on rent, we decided to start looking for an agent. Many, many people referred us to different realtors but I decided to just google "best brokerage in Durham" and RED popped up. I looked through their website and saw a diverse group of people who I thought would understand and relate to what we were looking for. We initially spoke with Susan U. and set up some trial showings to get a feel for RED's work before signing on with them. Susan showed us a couple of homes, and then introduced us to Chelsea Merlini--seriously a perfect match for us. We did a couple more trial showings with Chelsea, and decided after our first meeting to sign on with her and commit to using Chelsea as our agent. She was flexible enough to show us another house later that day, and we then decided on a whim to go back to the first house we saw with Susan. Things happened quickly as we decided it was the one, and Chelsea immediately was available to start strategizing our offer. We made two offers, the second one getting accepted. As first time homebuyers, Chelsea explained all the steps and phases of a real estate transaction and made what otherwise could've been an excruciating, anxiety-inducing experience, a fun and easy one. We got incredibly lucky, and we're quickly under contract UNDER asking in this crazy market. Chelsea was there every step of the way, from picking up our DD check, meeting me at my work to quickly go over our plan, to organizing all of our inspections and vendors throughout the process. She absolutely went to bat for us during negotiations, and we closed on an incredible deal thanks to her hard work and dedication. One crucial thing that made working with Chelsea and RED so great was her responsiveness, taking the time to get back to us quickly, and being available for questions or freak outs at any time. In fact, Chelsea made this process so easy for us we almost forgot we were in the middle of buying a house while we were in due diligence. I know she put an enormous amount of time and energy into our deal, and both the work we see and the work behind the scenes made this a super smooth purchase from day one to sitting at the closing table. Even now as we are moving and having work done, Chelsea is quick to respond with vendor recommendations and advice. She shows up to let vendors in if we're unavailable, and is always a text or call away. I have incredible respect for her and am so grateful to have had the experience we did. While we were still looking at houses and hadn't decided to make an offer yet, Chelsea never hesitated to climb into an attic or crawl into a crawlspace to examine everything and point out things we otherwise never would've noticed. It's that kind of confidence in your agent that made us feel at ease going into the largest purchase of our lives. Aside from her work, Chelsea is also incredibly personable and friendly and most importantly, easy to talk to. Everything about RED and working with Chelsea was elevated and felt like a luxury service. I cannot recommend RED, and Chelsea, AND Susan U. enough. When we sell this house, or look for a new home down the road, it will undoubtedly be with RED and Chelsea Merlini.

It is a 17 year old home with original roof and AC with a home warranty. Amy informs me by text that she would be out of the country in Norway. She assigned me to a different woman. I had no negotiating power and this other person said she didn't have the other offers that were made to go back to. This other person knew nothing about crawl spaces, of which they wanted almost $4000 credit for that. I was not kept informed. It was not right. I am so upset because she got my listing and really didn't care. She gets commission on the sale price and not what I give them back. We wound up settling for almost $7000 in credits. Aimee thought it was $4000. She had no clue. Aimee was mean and nasty to me over the phone and told me I was to her worker. I was frustrated and got no apology or comfort. And, for the record, this review was unsolicited. I wrote this on my own volition. Been There, Done That Here is a brief frame of reference. My wife has been an attorney for over 30 years and a significant portion of her practice involved real estate. I have been a corporate officer and a business owner for 30+ years. For a brief period of time, I took a break from the corporate world, as my wife and I were buying properties for our own account. I was a very active income property agent involved in over 100 additional transactions for my clients. I achieved all those closings in just three years and as such I became well-versed in what constitutes a good agent versus a great agent. I came to learn that most of the agents I interacted with only performed the minimum amount of work to just get the job done. Not so with Ms. Webb.
