I required the services of a process server and Smart Legal Document Services was one of 3 services I contacted online. Smart Legal Document Services was 1 of 2 services that responded to my inquiry, and also quoted the lowest. Wonderful. If available, I prefer the convenience of handling some things electronically, online.
On the same day that Smart Legal Document Service responded to my inquiry, I emailed them the documents that needed to be served and provided an address - it was to be served upon the resident agent of a business, so nothing complicated. The individual I was communicating with assured me that they'd get it served and advise me within a business day upon completion of service. These communications took place on November 19th.
One week later, on November 26th, after not hearing from Smart Legal Document Service, I emailed them to ask for a status. No response. Then on December 4th, I emailed Smart Legal Document Service again asking for an update. This time, the response was that they will check with their process server for an update. On December 5th, I finally received an email informing me that service had been completed and they would have the Affidavit of Service filed with the Court. Because of the unreliability I'd been dealing with, I asked to pick up the Affidavit and file it myself. I was told that this was not their "typical procedure" but they would leave the document for pick up.
Time is of the essence when it comes to service of legal documents as most have a specific deadline within which service must be completed. Sometimes, failure to serve legal documents within that deadline results in the loss of valuable rights. Unfortunately, Smart Legal Document Service does not seem to grasp that concept and I'd highly advise others to seek such service elsewhere. :( read more
