I honestly don't know where to start with this experience. I left my dog, Luca, for a two-week training program and received absolutely no updates during the first week. I was told Laura would be contacting me with progress reports, but I never heard from her. When I finally called to check in, I was told she had "just left." I decided to stop by in person to find out what was going on, only to learn that Laura had actually been out sick and hadn't been there at all during the first week. She asked me to give her another chance and keep Luca for the second week, which I agreed to -- and that's on me. Unfortunately, the second week was just as bad. Again, there was zero communication, no follow-up, and overall, completely unprofessional service. I'm extremely disappointed. This experience was frustrating and far below the standard I expected for my dog's care and training. After 1 year that Drake got mauled to death by another dog in your facility and no supervision, my family member has not gotten any response from any of her questions, she AT LEAST deserves an explanation of how her baby got KILLED IN SMART DOG DALLAS. A SMALL DOG was killed by another 60 lb dog during their "play time" yesterday and this place is not taking accountability for any of this! The owner was not contacted until 17 hrs later!!! I DO NOT FEEL COMFOTABLE on leaving my dogs in this place: 1. Doggies don't get separated by sizes! 2. Obviously dogs are left unsupervised and don't have any cameras in the yard where we can see how this happened. 3. Staff is not ready to intervene when dogs are fighting or being attacked, nor trained to take them to the emergency vet in cases like these. A couple months ago (approx. March 2023), Smart Dog Dallas allowed a dog to be mauled to DEATH in its facilities and waited 24 hours to notify the owner. The owner later picked up her poor baby to find a bloodied and mauled carcas of her once very alive and happy baby. This Yelp page was bombarded with slews of negative reviews. Yelp suspended the page and never let any of those reviews see the light of day. Yelp is a corrupt tech company and Smart Dog Dallas are murderers. The world deserves to know the complete incompetence of the management team that lead to the death of a poor baby. Now my story. I was taking my extremely friendly and trained golden retriever to Smart Dog Dallas when we moved here in January. About 2 months in, my golden retriever (who has never had any behavior or fear problems) REFUSED to go to day care. She jumped into my arms like she does at the Vet when she's terrified, except this was her day care and she traditionally loved going to day care before this one. This happened 3 times in a row so I knew something bad happened to her. After the 3rd time, I pulled her out of daycare and we never went back. Again, I knew something bad had happened to her there. I know my child and I know when something isn't right and something was not right there. Fast forward to two weeks later and we get word of the death of this poor dog. I am personally furious at Yelp. There is not ONE review from anyone regarding this incident. And believe me, Yelp and Google were bombarded with people telling the truth about this day care. I don't know how the owners of Smart Dog were able to convince Yelp to hide their digressions but it's severely disturbing that this company has a 4.6 star aggregate review. They must have seriously shelled out some hush money to Yelp. Also, ask yourself why the last reviews are from 8 months ago and somehow 99% of them are 5 stars BUT when you look at my attached screenshot, you will see 29 one-star reviews that were flagged and removed. Yeah, that's some serious manipulation of this platform. Bottom line, there are too many people who have had perverse experiences at Smart Dog. One of the managers quit immediately after the incident. I just got word that their groomer quit too. Smart dog Dallas will kill or hurt your dog and corrupt tech companies like Yelp will help them cover it up. Don't take your dog here. The end. PS - to the owners of Smart Dog Dallas. This place was a Godsend! I have a very active and temperamental husky mix and they were for sure up for the challenge! My babygirl is a "hoodlum" and they protected and took such great care of her. My big boy is a gentle giant, so I knew he would do well! Angela, Laura and the entire staff at Smart Dog Dallas did an amazing job! Everyone that I have ever come into contact with has been simply amazing. I would recommend anyone considering bringing their dog here to reconsider. I left my dog here for about a week when I was on vacation. This was my first experience with them besides the inital temperament test when they said he did great they would care for him. I trusted them with my dog and upon my return I was extremely disappointed. When I came to pick him up I asked how he did and everyone just said "he did great, but wasn't super social" (which would be normal for my dog, he is super friendly but doesn't like to necessarily play, especially with bigger dogs). They handed me his leash and I took it and left. After loading him in my car I was petting and greeting him when I noticed his eye was matted with at least 3 days worth of gunk and discharge and covered in his own hair (it looks as if he didn't even have an eyeball). He looked terrified and traumatized (as expected if he couldn't see for days). The eyeball was completely blood shot and around his eye was so red and inflamed and warm indicating an infection. It took a lot of cleaning to finally get all of the hair off of his eye. I called to ask if there was any kind of rough housing or incident involving my dog and I was told that no, nothing happened, and then they began to blame me by saying it was essentially my fault for having him eat their house kibble instead of his normal food, and its just an allergy. I recieved a call later from the owner telling me the exact same thing, that it was my fault becuase he ate house food and he was clearly allergic. Which I would like to stop right here. Even if that was the case, if my dog was allergic to their food, 1- I would hope SOMEONE on staff would have noticed- if it were a severe allergy then it would be crucial to recognize these signs if it was a signifigant enough allergy it could have led to lead to airway inflammation and closure and potentially death. 2- I would think that someone at some point in the week would have contacted me to let me know so I could coordinate getting him food that he was not allergic to or even just to notify me and cover themselves?? I brought my dog to the vet later that day and the vet informed me there was no way it was an allergy (if it was the reaction would have been systemic, causing inflammation in both eyes, not just one). His educated guess of the reasonable explanation for this was roughhousing leading to severe inflammation that went over looked creating infection. Luckily, my dogs cornea was not scratched and there was no loss of vision that resulted or a more severe injury that would have gone overlooked by the team at smart dog. I notified the owner later of this diagnosis and he agreed that it made sense that it was roughhousing becuase "Your dog wasn't very social. He was clueless and so things like this happen". So essentially they went from blaming me to blaming my poor neglected dog. My main issue with this facility was not that roughhousing occured (Yes, if it does intervention should happen and as his owner I should have been notified, but I understand dogs are dogs). My issue is the fact that for A WEEK not a single person on the smart dog team noticed that my dog essentially did not have an EYE and could not SEE. It felt as if no one at the facility ever even looked at my dog. It felt like straight neglect and it broke my heart that I trusted them with my dog and allowed this neglect to happen. When I addressed this concern to the owner he said "well we don't do a head-to-toe assessment every time we let them out". LOOKING at my dog is very different than assessment and I know they are aware of that. I wish I would have at least known what was going on with my dog and not just allowed him to suffer. Whether it be gross incompetence or gross neglect and indifference by the staff, either way I will NEVER bring my dog back here and I recommend you never do either. Would give less than 1 star if I could. read more

After two mostly happy years of taking my pet to Smart Dog I am truly heartbroken to report I will no longer be taking my dog here. My standard poodle has frequented the daycare two or three times a week for more than 2 years and we would also utilize their boarding services several times a year when we would travel. He would also regularly get baths with their groomer. My dog was so happy to go to their daycare and we always felt like we were in safe and competent hands. Even after the controversial death of the dog in their facility and the subsequent lawsuit I continued to take my dog there and share with my neighbors that I felt that Jack was in safe hands - it was a freak accident and I felt not worried at all for the safety of my any animal in their care. My dog is no longer happy to go there. In fact, he seems sad and depressed when we take him there and refuses to get out of the car - I have to drag him in. When Will and Mayra were in charge they ran a very tight ship and were extremely professional and caring. About 6 months after the incident and lawsuit both Mayra and Will were gone. I trusted both of these people implicitly with my dog - they were consummate professionals. I would receive calls updating me on my dog when he would be boarded overnight to let me know how he was doing. That level of care has ceased to exist. Around the same time the shuttle service was canceled - this was a feature I utilized to pick my dog up and drop him off on days he was in daycare. I was told the shuttle service would be reinstated soon but after 6 months there has been no new chauffeur. This was a huge part of why I selected Smart Dog as my daycare of choice. Since Will and Mayra left the attention to detail and level services have left much to be desired. There has been multiple instances where my requests have been ignored - such as my dog not being put in a kennel after grooming. Another instance is my dog not being fed the food provided for him while being boarded for several days. This is very negligent behavior that was the final nail in the coffin for me. If I tell you how to feed my dog and provide you the food, how hard is it to carry those requests out ? Also, when I bring him to daycare - because they still dont provide a chauffeur, despite continuing to advertise that they do - there is literally zero sense of urgency to accept the dog into their care and instead the new management just screams his name for 5 minutes and chats me up as if I am bringing the dog to the daycare as part of my social life. The unprofessionalism is astounding and I will no longer be paying this company to inconvenience me. read more

I arranged for my 2 dogs to stay here last year and the visit was fine, no complaints. Recently, I was preparing for an upcoming trip and reached out to make another reservation. I made the reservation online using my login to their online portal, each of my dog's information (medication, feeding, etc) was already present within the online portal (showing that I had used this login before) so I submitted the reservation request. Dalia at Smart Dog Dallas reached out and said they couldn't locate my dog's information and asked if they had completed their trail. I responded back with the email chain I had from last year confirming the date of my dog's completed trial day, as well as the timeframe of their boarding visit in 2018. I didn't hear back... so I followed up with Dalia 2 days later... and I have still not heard back. My trip is now 2 days away and I've made plans with another, more responsive company. Our puppy LOVES smart dog. She runs out without looking every time I park. They have a great system where the first day you come for a free trial and they size up your pup based on temperament and size and divode the dogs accordingly. They gave me a tour of the facilities which is always good to see. Our puppy goes for daycare and hasn't been for boarding yet. Our friends board their pup and he loves it there. They have free time to play and y indoors or outdoors and they always pot pictures at night on their Facebook so you can see what mischief your pup was up to all day. It's great and our puppy really enjoys her time. They just changed their pricing packages and increased their pricing from 18 to 21 per package. They also pick up your dog and drop them off if you need and their hours are great too. They are a little hard to find behind all the Bail bonds offices the it is a great place and they take care of the pups. We love coming here! read more

I adopted two small rescues who needed socialization badly. I used to work at a dog daycare in California and knew what I was looking for. All of the reviews of Smart Dog were really good so I decided to check it out. I did the tour and left my pups for a few hours. They did well and one of them was playing with other dogs, the other kind of hung back but wasn't aggressive so that already made me happy. I've continued to bring them here for half day play days and have boarded them twice. Both times the staff went above and beyond to make the accommodations. Special kudos to Michelle who helped organize everything once when I needed to board them while I was already out of town and having someone else bring them in. Angela has a great staff that really seem to care about the dogs rather than just there to collect a check and go home. I was bummed they don't have webcams at first, but they do a great job of posting pictures of the furbabies throughout the day on Facebook and never made me feel like a weirdo if I called to check on them. I highly recommend Smart Dog Dallas for the space, safety, staff, location, pricing and peace of mind. read more

So we stopped for a long time. 2) I then got a second puppy and sent her and she became scared of going to the back and when she was scared was dragged back instead of coaxed to see why she was cautious of going back. This was done by the owner herself. 3) My dogs became ill from giardia and ever since quitting smartdog we have otherwise stuck to our routine haven't had any issues. 4) In the stories I had heard of smartdog by people I trust everyone had one thing in common, deception. I think everyone's heart is so broken that no one writes a one star review but I've decided I need to speak up. ***The back yard where the dogs play wreaks of dog smell and it's a very small area with barbed wire at the top of the fence that just appears to be tacky and unsafe. The current manager which is new as of November 2017 WREAKS of booze and weed*** Finally I emailed the owner expressing all my concerns and let her know I wouldn't be returning to smartdog and I never heard back. This is not a place that cares about maintaining customers. I was a regular there from the time my first puppy had all her shots and no one cared that I left. read more

My dog jackson used to always go to smart dog (at least 2-3x a week and whenever I needed boarding) I was helped with last minute requests , winter storm issues preventing me from picking him up , you name it. He always came home super tired. We moved to houston and the daycare options are AWFUL. Way more expensive and the dogs don't even get to play all day . Jackson comes home still having a ton of energy and I even question if they give him the food I drop off for him. I've tried multiple places here and there's just nothing like Smartdog. If we ever move back to dallas , will be sure to resume being customers. read more

I took my dog here for a "trial day" for boarding. Despite the fact that she was non-aggressive, played well with others and behaved well in general, she was not allowed to board at their facility because the staff was unable to get her to come when called. This was her first time trying out a doggy day care, with unfamiliar people. Despite explaining that to the staff, she still didn't "pass" their standards to stay there. I also want to add that when I picked her up at the end of the day, she looked absolutely terrified. Apparently, they had isolated her for most of the day because the staff was unable to get her on a leash. It really makes me sick to think she was alone for hours, in a strange place, and the staff didn't even have the decency to call me so I could come get her. I was so angry and upset after this experience, I had my boyfriend call the manager to get more details on what happened. All they would say is that "dogs must come when called" and when they don't they have to keep them inside - likely in a kennel or alone in a room. I am shocked that a dog day care so poorly handles situations like this and I write this review in hopes that others don't have to go through the same experience I did. read more

Update again: My boston terrier and husky have been coming to SD off and on for the last year (both boarding a couple times during long weekends and day care several times). The staff have all been great, and the drop off/pickup process is super easy. I had to downgrade my review because of the lack of communication from the staff after our last visit. Both dogs were dropped off for 3 nights in June and upon pickup we were told they had some issues with the husky showing teeth at staff members (not other dogs), and that the staff were afraid of him. They said it would happen only when they would try to put him into his cage and when humans would enter the dog play area. This was a surprise as he's been here many times prior and have not heard anything like this. However, it's fairly well known that huskies have attitude and communicate in unique ways (he's very vocal and is a little diva). She didn't say that we weren't allowed back, but told us she'd email us recommendations for in-house sitters. Okay, that's fine. Maybe their staff had some turnover and the new staff didn't know how to handle huskies. A couple weeks later, we hadn't heard from anyone at SD, so we called and left a voicemail requesting Angela the owner give us a call to discuss the situation and get the recommendations for in-house sitters. Angela has mentioned she is a dog trainer, so we really wanted her input on the husky's behavior and hopefully even go through some training sessions with her to make sure his attitude doesn't flair up again with her staff. No reply. A couple weeks later again, I wrote an email to SD requesting Angela call us to discuss. No reply. I think it's pretty unprofessional to not answer us at all, especially as we've been repeat customers over the last year. I know they've had some email issues recently, so they just may have not received the email, but the voicemail was definitely left. Maybe I can get a call back after this review. read more

We've been bringing our pup here for years and could not be happier. This is the only place our dog jumps out of the car and never looks back at us she loves it so much. We know she's well taken care of here, the staff knows her by name, and I couldn't ask for more peace of mind when we leave her.
