I unexpectedly lost my husband at the young age of thirty-eight. While in the ICU waiting for his organs to be donated, I was given several funeral home contacts. My husband expressed a desire to be cremated. My husband passed in the Memphis area; his service would be a few hours away in his hometown. Smart Cremations provided comfort and respect as the family and I organized his out-of-town funeral and local memorial service. His family and I divided his ashes, and I brought in an urn from an outside vendor that fit his masculinity and beautiful personality. Rhonda graciously offered for me to watch her delicately pour my husband's ashes into his urn. Watching and seeing how they care for other's loved ones provided comfort and peace. Cheap, but not worth the headache. Took nearly EIGHT weeks to get my husband cremated. Between this place, his doctors, and the Shelby County Medical Examiner's Office, our dilema has been a nightmare. First, none of his doctors would sign his death certificate, then had to do records review at Medical Examiner's Office, then wait more time to get him cremated. Finally, Smart Cremation didn't have his urn on hand even though they said they did at the beginning of this process. I will admit that Smart Cremation can not be blamed for the entire eight weeks however, they have no attention to detail, no follow-up with customers (we called them to keep informed, not the other way around), insisted everyone else was to blame for delays, and were just plainly frazzled by the entire situation. I would have gladly paid thousands more for more professional service. Save yourself the stress of nightmares of seeing your husband decay for eight weeks by going anywhere else. Elizabeth and Rhonda should be fired and replaced. read more

We cannot say enough great things about Rhonda and the folks at Smart Cremation. My wife and I cared for her Aunt in her home during her final handful of days. We did not have a lot of time to decide on a provider and were looking for a service that was not a sales pitch wrapped in fanned sympathy. We called a few places and received a sales pitch each time. Aunt E was a very practical woman and did not want pomp and circumstance for her final arrangements. Smart really truly fit that wish with their transparency in what is offered and what it will cost being published on their site- No Sales Pitches. Aunt E passed at home on a Monday night at 9 PM. The very polite and considerate representatives from Smart were here in less than an hour and even honored our wish to take a well loved dog toy with Aunt E. We were able to meet with Rhonda on Wednesday to sign what needed to be signed and her energy was exactly what we needed after a solid week of sadness. We knew we wanted to scatter Aunt E's ashes at sea at some point and when we asked Rhonda kindly gave us time to peruse options without any push what so ever. I want to add to my recent review of Smart Cremation. After reading my review, Rhonda called me and personally apologized for her unusual attire and the use of a vehicle that she normally would not have used. I very much appreciate her attitude of owning what she had done that didn't go over well with me. She was very sincerely upset with herself for letting me down. She is a warm and effusive person, and I truly believe that she is committed to doing her best, with respect, for the deceased and their families. I believe the correct response to a review is to learn from it, and I believe Rhonda has taken my comments to heart. read more

Overall, very good experience with this cremation service. It was exactly one month from the day my MIL passed to the day we picked up her ashes. They were always very friendly when we were able to talk to someone. I appreciate that they didn't try to upsell us, no sales pitch at all. I also appreciate that everything could be done online for form signing and payment. Only taking off one star because it wasn't super clear on the timeline with how long things took and it took several days and multiple calls to get a call back about when the ashes would be ready for pickup. But once the date and time was arranged, they were ready and waiting and it took just minutes. I would have no hesitation with using this company again, if the need ever sadly arises again. read more

This was a bitter sweet sad experience only because i lost my father but the service Mrs.Rhonda Harris provided was something special she was kind sweet and patient she helped me find everything i was looking for with such ease i am my father's only child and she made so incredibly easy she help me to understand the purity of cremation and made it that much easier for me to make a decision and my dad didn't have insurance so that was a big deal but the prices were so affordable compare to everyone else so with out a doubt i would recommend her 100% of the time over anybody else weather you have the money for a big or small she's the best thanks Mrs.Harris for making this a great experience read more

This was my first experience with cremation and to be honest, it changed my mindset and I think I prefer it over the typical burial of the embalmed body. We used them for my mother and it was the smartest decision I've ever made. Cut out the middle man and use Smart Cremation, all services are performed at Memorial Park Funeral Home across the street. This is the best route if you are looking for a direct cremation and it's way cheaper than letting the funeral home rip you off. I'd like to see them return the Urn to the family in a nice gift bag with tissue paper but hey, I have zero complaints. They exceeded my expectations and put my mind to ease while they took care of the person I loved the most, Mom. read more

So this is one of those reviews you hope you never have to write....but I have to...my mother passed away suddenly and very unexpectedly.... Not knowing what to do...We turned to yelp and came across smart cremations.... One review only...and thought there is not much more I can lose......so why not....and that's the name we gave the hospital...one of the best decisions in a long time...Rhonda was just great...no presser ...no up selling.... just there to answer your question and get you through this painful process as easy as possible...and they will help you with a payment plan....just real honest caring people that are truly there to help and not take advantage of you...which is hard to come by in the Memphis area....Tim is there too..to help with the behind the scenes stuff....just great people.....hope you don't need this service.....but if you ever do....they ARE the people to call read more

I was referred to S. C. by a local funeral home, because it might help save a few dollars. Any savings were offset by the hassle I experienced. My biggest complaint was a lack of communication. In all fairness, my brother died during the February 2021 ice storm, so between that & Covid, they were "behind." But after my brother's body was released from the medical examiner's office, it took at least 3 additional weeks to finalize his cremation & interment. And to this day, I still do not know where his body was housed between the time he left the coroner's office, to the day he was interred, despite the fact I had given custody over to Northridge Woodhaven in Millington. (He wasn't there! But that's another review.) Anyway, Rhonda did her best to make things right, and I appreciate that, but the entire experience was unnecessarily frustrating at a time when you need things to go as smoothly as possible. We were disadvantaged by living out of town, but that should have been all the more reason to stay in touch. I can understand a delay-it's the lack of communication that was difficult to bear. read more
