This review is overdue... Luke has been repairing our appliances for us for several years now. We have a rental home in FL but live in CA. We used to get our appliances repaired through GE because all of our kitchen appliances are GE and at first, they were all under warranty but as the warranty ran out, being long distance and all, we just kept using GE. First of all, why our GE Monogram appliances that we spent a lot of money on kept needing repairs was the first issue, but the next issue was that sometimes, they sent technicians that were completely incompetent. After dealing with one technician that kept calling someone to give him help over the phone, trying to work on the oven while it was still connected to power (and actually electrocuted himself), ordering wrong parts and having to come back to our house numerous times, we finally decided to look for someone else and my husband found Smart Choice Appliance. From the first visit, Luke was very professional, knowledgeable and fixed the mess the GE technician left behind. Since then, Luke has been our go-to guy. Him and his staff are easy to deal with remotely, their fees are very fair and Luke is very honest. When you first call them, they will ask you questions to see if maybe it's not even a repair issue - something that can easily be resolved. And once Luke comes out and diagnoses the issue, he will honestly tell you your options. Sometimes those options will mean that he doesn't make any money, but he believes may be the best solution for you. Many places won't install unless their retail arm sold the item, but Luke is independent. We've used him several times now here in Delray, and he's the BEST. If I could give Smart Choice Appliance 10 stars, I would! I contacted them from California to assess/fix my mom's dryer in Florida. Jane was so pleasant and helpful, and was able to schedule an appointment very quickly. Luke was on time, wearing the required mask and was able to fix the dryer on the spot. Who knew that the new roof had clogged the dryer vent? He also went above and beyond, and replaced the fire hazard connection behind the dryer AND some stubborn light bulbs for my mom. SCA is great. My Kenmore range's control board burst into flames, so I needed to find a repair place and decided to try SCA. They're honest and communicative, and know what they're doing. The guy who arrived was very nice, and even managed to get the stove working during his diagnostic visit by bypassing what was damaged. They just finished replacing the damaged parts and the costs were exactly what they promised, no hidden fees or surprises. They have a mask policy, which is great given the current pandemic. This company rocks! I was cleaning out my dad's condo in Florida and noticed the washer wasn't spinning out. I called up and spoke with Christina who took a detailed report of what was going on and said that the technician, Luke (who is the owner), would show up between 3:30pm and 4pm. Luke was there by 3:45pm. Luke is a friendly knowledgeable man and gave me a fair quote for what was going on with the washer. He had the parts needed in hand and said that safety switches tend to wear out on the older washers but it pays to repair them as the older washers will last a lot longer than newer ones due to plastic components in the new ones versus metal. I told him to go ahead with the repair. Luke didn't mind me watching him perform the repair and he even showed me little tricks to get extra life out of the machine while it was being repaired. When he finished, he stated that the repair was a lot easier than he thought and knocked off a few bucks on the bill (awesome!). I gave his marketing materials to my family down there as well as my dad's friends. I highly recommend this company and Luke. Because of the bad experience with our home inspection, Luke made us feel better about the refrigerator (one of the only appliances we haven't had to replace) in our new home. Very happy. Just moved into a new place this week and unfortunately the fridge/freezer crapped out on me. So not only did I lose all of my food :-( but now I need a new fridge. Or do I? Nope. Found this place here on Yelp and am not disappointed. I called earlier today (my only day off) and Luke made arrangements to come out today. He then called 20 minutes away so I didn't have to wait all day, then showed up on time. YAY!! Then Luke proceeded to diagnose the problem and fix it. I've never repaired a fridge before, so the $180 repair was a shock. But much better than purchasing a new one, right?! Luke assured me that this was a good unit and worth repairing. I'm not very trusting, but I trusted this guy to fix my fridge properly. Long story short, I had him fix my wine cooler while he was here. They have a yearly cleaning that I will most likely sign up for. I think $150 to go through all my appliances. Pretty much worth it. Luke seemed very knowledgeable and honest.
