Came in 50 minutes after opening, slow store barely any customers there. One register open and a cashier needs help to process a customer. 3 minutes had passed, no help, line at a halt, everyone standing around with their thumbs up their ***. Ishmael is a disrespectful manager. He's the really short guy with the slick back hair. Every encounter I've had with him has been hostile due to his personality. One morning I walked in and he said good morning and I responded but because my voice is soft, he repeated what he said in a aggressive tone so I turned around and I replied saying " I said good morning the first time you just couldn't hear me" and from there he's gone out of his way to make every interaction negative. The most recent interaction was when he tried to humiliate me in front of his employees and I responded by defending myself while keeping a composed manner. I cannot remember the context but no matter right or wrong, his behavior was no excuse and especially him being a representation of Smart & Final management. Normally come here to get specific items such as cheese, picnic items, and Ribs. Yes the ribs here are the Smithfield brand, but they have them all the time. Today was no different and I got 3 racks that I will be making later this week. However, the real reason that I am reviewing today is due to the help that myself and the cashier was able to give to another customer. This lady wanted to buy strawberries like I did, and she did I not have the app available on her phone, so I was able to buy them for her with the discount because the coupon was for 2 packages and I was only getting one package. I went in there and was ready to pay and forgot my phone in the car to pay and I went in there thinking she was going to keep her word and ring me up really quick, and NO! She made me wait in front of the line with my food in the cart and told me to go see Jorge instead in register 6. Jorge then takes 3 more customers, when he had told me to wait a second. The other day I was in there and I kept laughing about the expired products I would find with my partner. That was until I found a pasta sauce that expired in...2023, sitting on their shelves. Wow! I will be honest that this has been my secret spot for deals and secondly the customer service is ultra stellar!! The quality of care that the entire crew delivers is impressive. The big male cashier dude is ulta awesome I think his name is Arthur and Jessica is a real doll. Love the spice selection and love all the veggies selection. Store is clean and organized and most have many crew members actively stocking. Most are bilingual and fast. I have witnessed them multitasking with joy. Well, they all have masks on but back before COVID-19 they smiled. The the GM please know that your cashiers really deliver professional customer service. This place has what many other shooping markets do not, which it becomes a beneficial factor for me. Located on the corner plaza on Edinger Ave and Bristol Street. Its right next to the O'Rilley auto shop and the drive-thru Jack-n-the Box. Convient sight seeing from the traffic on Bristol headed South, this location carries many items which are unavailable at their competitors. My favorites are the weelly discounts on items that are already on my shopping list such as the Almond milk with a hint of honey brand Silk is almost always on sale!!!! Their fresh produce section is for the most part kept clean and well stocked up. As well as keeping their aisles clean of clutter and easy to gather items from the shelves. The great thing is that if you happen to be on one of the neighbor stores (like the new 24Hour Fitness) just the thought of having the gym and a grocery center right by each other, makes the visit here so much more convenient. read more

This review is to express appreciation for the asst manager, Alejandra, aka Alex on her badge. I came to smart and final to get supplies for a school robotics outreach party- flamin hot Cheetos and jarritos. The event meant so much to the kids that in my excitement, I lost my receipt and I worried that expensing it would be difficult to impossible. I tried contacting my credit card company but it was so frustrating and they would only open a dispute. On a long shot, I decided to call the store and see if they could track the receipt down. Alejandra was not only super nice and non judgmental, but she went way out of her way to help me track it down. This not only helps me cancel the dispute with my credit card company, saving valuable corporate resources, but it also helps kids in the community. This store is always clean, organized and the staff are always friendly. I've been here past 9 p.m. twice and never had any issues finding what I needed (I'm usually here because I can't find what I need at other grocery stores) It's across from Mater Dei and it looks a little sketchy in the parking lot at night but there's bright lights and I've never experienced anything sketchy here. Recently an old lady counted out all of her money in pennies to pay for her purchase (I think it was around $20) and the cashier was super nice and patient with her and helped her count it out. I was on the phone with someone and would've offered to pay but she finished counting her pennies before I got off the phone. Another time a cashier lady started a conversation with me and was just really nice and it was at least 9:45 p.m. so I wasn't expecting a friendly convo at night. Items I've come here for that I couldn't find at my usual grocery store: torani syrups, puff pastry paper, strawberry mochi. FYI...to all consumers shopping at Smart & Final please be aware you can't return anything. Apparently, I was told it's on the receipt but it does not state no return. I was told by the manager it's posted at the doors. Who has time to read anything at the entrance especially when you're trying to keep social distancing. My return is candy bars that are fully packaged in plastic that can be wiped down. I made a big purchase for work here for the first time but it will be my last time. I found this particular item cheaper at Costco so that's where I will continue to take my business to where they happen to be taking returns. read more

I love shopping at Smart & Final store, specially because their products are good quality not to mention the digital deals, unfortunately the employees at this location are always super rude. They make you feel like if they are giving you the groceries For free. I bought Ragú sauce, but I accidentally got some weird one that said sugar free, so I went back to the store and ask if I could do even exchange for the regular sauce. They didn't let me, the only thing they allowed me to do was returned the 2 sauces that I bought for 1.49 and charged me the new ones at regular price. Also another day they didn't let me used a digital coupon for beer because they said I used it already and it wasn't truth. I got so mad and call a costumer service number and they confirmed that I didn't used it before and called the manager to help me. Everyone in this store has very bad attitude. I'm thinking to go back to shop at Stater Brothers. Im going to spend my money somewhere else where they appreciate the costumers and provide a nice costumer service. read more

Worst place to get vegetables from. All the racks that the produce sits on has mold. Try cleaning it once a day.

Usually long lines but most of the staff are helpful and friendly. Others should really find another job so I stay away of those and go to the nice staff members. Wish I could remember the names of the good ones, I will have to do another review when I get all of their names. Some food prices are reasonable when they are on sale, some veggies and fruit can be found at other markets for cheaper but overall taking into consideration the raising gas prices it's not that bad plus saving time. read more

I only come here because it's convenient and prices are ok. But watch expiration dates, they are HORRIBLE at rotating merchandise. Not sure who manages this store but they need more training. Well I'm not sure that we needed another Smart & Final here in Santa Ana, especially since there's one 2 miles south & another 2 miles north...on the same street:P Grand opening...opened up yesterday & thru the end of today you get a FREE reusable bag...which I got! Sometimes this place does have some good deals...but they're not all good deals...you'll have to shop around & use your calculator to figure out what the best buys are. I actually take a photo of the items I know I'll be in need of soon...that way when I'm at another store, I can compare that item to the photo & see where it's really cheaper. But of course if you need to buy bulk...then this is the place to go...that is, if you don't already have a club card at those other places. I'll probably be coming here semi-often...when I see great deals in the junk mail ads...they do sometimes have great prices on the First Street brand 2 pound bag of shredded cheese:D read more

This is a fairly new store I would expect more and it's not cheap either. The produce is always practically rotting and like I said it's not cheap. The mini mart accross the street from my house has fresher produce. Gross. I either always get the same damn cart or a lot of their carts have bad wheels. Annoying. They don't how to bag your shit.
