Smart & Final, I finally got smart. With affordability on my mind a lot these days, this location is now officially on the monthly grocery rotation regardless of how much I dread the congested parking. Hey, there's a reason so many folks are congesting that lot, shopping here. Like on my recent trip, I saved $12.80 on canned/bottled food provisions. And on non-food items make that $20.10 for a total savings of $32.90! Actual total on 14 items spent was only $45.67. WOW! Store opens daily at 6:00AM and I'm an early bird so with some smart planning, next trip will include perishable comestibles (cuz produce always looks excellent), drop off at home in time to make first work appointment of the day! Staff is always available, helpful, pleasant. Cashier this trip was in the midst of her first day and nailing it like a pro! Breaks my heart to see how badly this store is run. 8:30pm on a Wednesday there are no checkstands open, only self checkout. There were seven people waiting in line and multiple self-checkout stations were malfunctioning, waiting for an attendant that never came. I ended up just walking out leaving $100+ in groceries in my cart. It's not that they were short staffed, there were plenty of employees. They just weren't of any use to customers who were trying to pay. I'm never going back. read more

This is the worst store in the area! Very rude employees, unfriendly cashiers (Shami) can't be bothered to exchange pleasantries or even speak from behind her mask. WOW. What an unbelievably miserable experience! What kind of management is making these people hate their jobs this much, to make them so miserable that they can't even respond to me telling them good morning. Until I read other reviews, I honestly thought that one of their co-workers died, or they were all told they would be losing their jobs at the end of the week. It's only my second time in a Smart & Final, this S&F, and I don't recall this kind of atmosphere before (it's been a couple years since I popped in). I shopped at 6am on 06/24. I needed to pop in and get food & snacks for a lunch party at work. I encountered 5 different employees and not one of them responded to my "Good Morning" and smile. I even kind of bumbled around one guys U-Boat and started laughing at my trip up and told him "good morning" and he barely managed to respond with a fake quarter smile. I continued to shop but the vibe was so bad that I couldn't wait to get out of there. As I went to check out, I went into the self check, check stand. The register had an error and the cashier/maybe manager? was standing about 10 feet away talking to the security guard. I had to go over to get her to unlock the screen. She looked at me like, "why are you bothering me?" Even after I told her good morning. I continued to check out and it errored again. She looked over but continued to talk to the security guard. I had to walk over and get her again. Same look like "why are you bothering me?" I wasn't doing it on purpose, the computer was being sensitive. So I finished my transaction and when I went to leave the store, the cashier was talking to the security guard still and they totally had the walkway blocked. I said excuse me, but had to step over a box behind the security guard to exit. I told my daughter about the experience and she said to read the Yelp reviews. To my surprise, this is just the norm. I had no expectations going in but thought it was odd that even when I said good morning the employees didn't even look at me. I did have another patron who was pushing his cart in my direction, give a big smile and said hi. I wonder if he was getting the same treatment. It seems like people would be grateful to have a job. I'm sorry they all feel this bad, but perhaps management needs to be looked at since they are the ones to set the pace. read more

As much as I love a deal, I can't recommend this store any longer. I purchased 2 boxes of Kodiak Instant Oatmeal in Blueberry and Chocolate Chip, only to find out that both (seemingly sealed) boxes were FILLED with bugs when I got home. I have never been so horrified when unpacking groceries. I'm so glad I bother to take the individual packets out and sort them in my cupboard, because if I hadn't, my entire pantry would be overrun with grain weevils. They're tiny, slow, shiny red bugs. I counted at least a dozen in the Blueberry box and 5 or so in the chocolate box. On a somewhat related note, I also noticed that the red onion display was TEEMING with flies tonight. I understand that things aren't always in pristine shape an hour before closing, but COME ON. The entire store just seems poorly maintained and clearly isn't adhering to health codes. Would only recommend a visit if you'd like a little extra protein (BUGS) in your food. read more

I've been a loyal customer of Smart & Final for many years, since Noah was the store manager.I've been putting off writing this review but my last visit was an upsetting experience.To my shock, I witnessed employees wheeling in a large bin of trash into the freezer. When I opened one of the freezer doors, I was hit with a strong odor of waste and garbage.I immediately brought this to the attention of the manager Joshua, who not only seemed unconcerned but also responded rudely when I expressed my disgust. His claim that it was "new policy", and did little to alleviate my concerns.This wasn't the first time I've had issues with Joshua's management, and it's disheartening to see such a drastic decline in customer service. As someone who has been shopping at this store for a long time, I'm worried about the direction it's heading.You'd think that the recent closure of the Santa Monica Erewhon due to infestations would serve as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining high standards but I guess not. I hope Smart & Final takes immediate action to rectify this situation and prioritizes customer well-being over questionable policies.I never thought I'd have to make a Yelp account just to express my disappointment in a store I've shopped at for years, but here I am. There is no accountability here. We live in strange times where it's necessary to follow certain "guidelines". We don't have to agree with them but for the time being we need to play ball. Since every grocery has stopped staffing a person to maintain sanitization of carts and other shared utilities, the least they can do is provide adequate wipes and sprays and other cleaning products so that we, the customer can do their job for them. This store is absolutely disgusting! The floors are dirty. The produce department is filthy and unkempt. The people who work here are the same as not having anyone work as they do nothing but stand around. The store was packed they have up to 8 on staff standing at the checkout stand but only two check stands working. Did I mention the store was packed with people standing basically on top of one another because there is no protocol for you know.... SAFETY! I love my cheap detergent and toilet paper as much as the next guy but this place has got to GO! Don't ask for a manager because the woman I spoke with was incompetent and rude. I have been going to this location for quite sometime now, and it seems it has gone a bit downhill. Of course, like everywhere else, prices have increased. They don't restock their products in a timely manner, and leave merchandise and/or empty boxes in the aisles. The worst part is that they seem to have very few people as cashiers per their shifts. The store has 4 registers plus a self-checkout, and only 1 of those registers is usually open, and heavily backed up. They may be understaffed, and don't really seem to care about their customer. They also do not have any bag people, so shoppers with big loads have to pack everything themselves. Lastly, the manager who was on duty today decided to close a register right before me, instead of opening up another line, forcing me to go to the only 1 line open, waiting behind people that had a full shopping cart. I just left this Smart and Final location where I was treated horribly! The young woman who was checking me out was very kind and let me step outside with this bucket for 19 seconds to make sure it would fit in my Mini Cooper. I ran inside and said it fit, so I'll get it. My purse was in the store in the cart with the ice and water bottles the entire time, so I obviously wasn't planning on stealing a $10.00 bucket. The cashier next to her came over and yelled at me, "You can't leave the store with a product you didn't pay for!" I told her, "I had permission and was just checking to make sure it would fit in my car." She continued to humiliate me in front of the other customers. I looked at the line and there was only one couple waiting, so it wasn't like I was holding up a busy store full of angry customers. She also made the other cashier feel bad. In the past year of COVID, I have gone from the occasional S&F shopper for business supplies to almost every day for groceries. This store has an organic section. Yes, all you health freak naysayers! S&F has a large product turn-over, the produce is always fresh. Other large chain grocery stores seemed to have produce that goes bad within a day or two. Also noticed if something isn't available and I politely ask the vendor stocking shelves, it magically appears next visit. I admit there is a soft spot in my heart for several of the staff here. They've worked here for years and are a familiar friendly face through this tough time. Witnessed a few incidents in the beginning of the lockdown with a particular manager: bring your own bag, having to bag your own groceries, where to stand, etc. but I put it down to a learning curve and the stressful times we are all going through. I went to Smart and Final recently in west Los Angeles and It's a smaller version of Costco with mostly higher prices. The produce is average at best and the prices are slightly higher than most warehouse type markets. They also had a shortage of shopping carts and waited nearly 5 minutes to obtain one. After waiting for a while I went back to her and told her no one came to open the door . We sent out someone to shop for our restaurant. He got a couple of items then realized they didn't have the whole shopping list. Came to the store dropped off the food then we realized he had bought the wrong item. Sent him out to this location to see if they had what we were looking for and they did. So he tried returning the items we didn't want and they wouldn't take it back because they were all out of those items at that location. What in the world??!! You are a corporate, how could you not take back something from a different store?!?!?!! Waste of our time. We had to take back everything to the original store. This is one of two Smart and Final locations in my area (this one and the one on SM Blvd) and because of the relatively recent revamping of their produce section - it's my fave! Both locations have SUPER easy parking in their own lots, they are never packed (although this one gets busier than the SM Blvd location), have good customer service, and similarly have good selections and prices of meats and dairy and condiments and beverages and paper goods. Plus they both have kitchen utensils and even pots and pans, and a wide selection of to-go-type disposable food containers. You never know when you'll need those, it's just good to know where you can get them! But this location now has an expanded supermarket-style produce area, where you can pick your fruits and veggies and put them in a bag and buy by the weight. The other location has some produce items like that, but it's more basic - onions, lemons, limes, bananas, etc. Now if they would only expand their organic produce selection to more than just an organic baby field greens mix, I'd love them! Smart & Final is still my choice for basics when I'm just too beat to deal with Costco - OR the local Ralphs or Trader Joe's. This place is always easier to get in and out of!! read more

I used to frequent this Smart & Final, I had forgotten how much I like it. They have added many more items now and are like a Warehouse and Grocery store. You can still buy in bulk, however regular people not just business owner's can reap the benefits of this store now. This Smart & Final have all of your Alcohols, Beers, Wines and mixers, I saw some people buying just one bottle of Vodka or one 12 pack of Beer so I am assuming you do not need a liquor license here, unlike Jetro. When I enter this store I get excited, the layout of the store is Spot On and I start with the produce and then on to the dairy and they also have fresh cuts of meats across from the dairy and freezer departments. I think they have some of everything, paper goods, cleaning products, cereals, salad dressings, pots, Alcohol, Christmas decorations, cookies and candies. This store usually has all of the registrars open so you can get out faster, they also have a huge parking lot and tons of shopping carts. It is one of their biggest stores and carry more products than the regular Smart & Finals and even the Extra's. You might see anyone in this store (I think they put it here for Son) Sony wants, Sony gets! It is located in Los Angeles, however it connects with Culver City and is used by a lot of the Studios in Culver City, Chef's as well as the residents. I make it a point to shop there during the holiday season, because it has soooo many things specially for the holidays and it moves fast, they have all registers open and the parking is very convenient. There are always managers available for your questions and they are super helpful as well as the other employees. I work down the street at a restaurant so When I need something I always come to this location. I understand that right now the workers are dealing with a lot ranging from dealing with bad customers to running out of stock on certain items, but being professional in a work environment is a given in my book. Yesterday I checked out with Jay and he was absolutely amazing. Great customer service and made me feel welcomed. Today I checked out with Loida and she was talking and talking to another girl about things that had nothing to do with work. They were giggling and laughing. I said thank you three times and not a response to any. She made me feel like I was interrupting her time. The only reason I didn't give one star was because jay was so great yesterday. read more

So I shop at this store almost all the time and ive never had a problem but the other day I was in line and the cashier sandy or sandra (i think that was her name) took forever to call me because she was on her phone texting while talking to another coworker so after she finally called me over she immediately gave me attitude and told me "theres a limit to that" and i said to what?? She then physically took it out of my cart invading my personal space. I felt so uncomfortable with her getting near me especially because of the pandemic going on. UNPROFESSIONAL!!! I have to admit that I always forget that this store is here. I get the weekly mailers and sometimes I tell myself I should take advantage of whatever loss leader item they have so i could save some money and what had caught my eye recently was their watermelon promo for $2.99 each rather than a cost per lb that the local supermarkets were advertising. I'm a big fan of watermelon but had to deal with people who were allergic so I had to remove it from my list of goodies to get for consumption. so when I saw the opportunity over memorial day weekend to get some for the awesome low price per item.. i really wanted to make sure I took advantage of the offer. luckily we have our smartphones which we can look up where the store is because I really had a hard time remembering if it was on olympic or pico because these are definitely high traffic zones and you tend to overlook things and I almost went out of my way to the one in Santa Monica by Blockbuster just because I remembered it more vividly than this one that's tucked away under the 405. But I have to say that I appreciated the fact that it was empty and had a wide selection of items so I could be as picky as I wanted with which watermelon I wanted to buy.. then in line the checker was aware that the person in front of me was being retarded and called us forward while the man was explaining his difficult shopping experience and well just being difficult himself.. I really appreciated it because she was being smart and understanding of her surroundings and not just the crazy upset patron who was just making things worse for everyone else. Great place in Westwood , definitely saved me from jumping in traffic at the wrong time !! They had all the cleaning supplies I needed, paper towels, bleach , detergent for both dishes and laundry, carpet shampoo, deodorant for vacuum cleaning, the produce was decent , not the best avocados here though. Definitely has a warehouse feel. I like how they sell in bulk for cheap prices. I would come here more often but unfortunately my fridge is tiny and can't store a lot of things. This place is a good replacement for Costco I feel like. You can definitely get bulk tissue paper, etc without going through the stress of going to a Costco. This S&F isn't even the closest one to my house, but its about 3x better than the one on Santa Monica, that it's worth it to swing by here. If you know Smart and Final, then you know how they work, but this place seems to be a cleaner, larger instance of the club store without the club. Great place to pick up cleaning supplies, kitchen tools, big packs of napkins and odd bits of produce. Also bulk packs of gum and candy, which are a must if you want to stay fresh and sweet. I've never had an issue with the parking here, which is more than I can say for a lot of the other stores on the westside. read more

Definitely a fan. The nearest Costco is "all the way" in Marina Del Rey, so this Smart and Final is way more convenient for those "don't really need that much bulk, just for every day stuff" runs. I always used to go to the local grocery store chains. Ralphs and Whole Foods, which gets too pricey. (pre-Trader Joe's Days) Then I discovered Smart & Final. This is where I do all my (non-bakery and non-drugstore) shopping. No they don't have everything and like Cost-Co (in Marina del Rey) sometimes they have a product then next time they don't. However, its great for most staple items, and they service is always great, and a huge parking lot. Not everything is in bulk which is nice when we need to make only one cake. On the other hand bulk is there and nice for what we need, like pancake mix and peanut butter, bread & popsicles! read more

Never enough registers open so you end up waiting in line to check out for a while, but for the most part this place is great.
