    Maine Traditional Karate and Fitness

I was in this school about a month ago looking to join a martial arts school. My first impressions…read morewere awful! For starters the school is a barn! The instructor that night was giving an off putting speech to the children maybe twenty minutes before I started what was my first and would be my last class. He by title was a Sempai and basically was demanding in a rant respect from these kids far exceeding what one might expect, not that the kids were being off putting or wrong in any way he just simply was using this school for little man syndrome and what came across as him using this school as a platform for his personal empowerment. There was no self defense training whatsoever and between both the youth and adult classes way too much emphasis on traditions such as trivial history, Japanese words or commands, and bowing! This guy literally had a couple of small boys knife fighting each other! OMG! Absolute nonsense, could not get out of this joke of a school fast enough! We did more literally nothing to learn and develop technique but they had the time for my money spent to run me through my first Kata. Karate Kata is more a tradition than actual development of technique! I say run for the hills, stay away from this Mickey Mouse Karate club as it's clearly for people fantasizing, maybe sport, but definitely not quality self defense! This school also had way too many Karate weapons, I was truly weirded out! I understand that they have some in general and that's okay but the amount was absolutely just giving me that weird vibe I would think most anybody would get that this school is a complete joke! I am telling you that you will not learn to defend yourself here in this school! You can know there are way better options available and if you give it the basic effort to look you will find it!

The gym was a very nice gym. It wasn't too crowded and had a lot machines to workout on. You have your cardio machines and free weights and much more. If you staying at the hotel next door. I highly recommend coming here because the hotel gym isn't the best. If you want a good workout then come to this gym. The staff were really nice and loved how they make shakes at the shake bar they have. Each staff member had a smile and looked like they wanted to be there. At the shake bar, You can get a shake for only 8 bucks I believe. It wasn't expensive at all. The place is cleanish if that makes sense. It's a gym so it's hard to fully clean the gym. The lockerroom and bathroom was very clean. I felt really safe at the gym and comfortable. It was really nice to have an atmosphere like that while you are working out. All equipment was very well kept up in maintenance and didn't feel old and run down like some gyms are. I was really happy about that. Overall, I give them a 4.4 out of 5 because there isn't really any accessories in the gym like hot tube etc but highly recommend them to have a good workout.

Evolve, however, seems to be a pretty good gym with a ton of group classes, which is why I go there. Yes, it is older. It would be nice if someone would listen to all the reviews that say it would be nice if it were updated and was open the hours they say they will be.

An amazing summer evening for a concert at the waterfront pavilion aka Maine Saving amphitheater…read more We were invited guest to the concert with glam rockers Vince Neil, lead singer of Ray, and the always amazing Brett Michaels. Parking was every where but our host is a season pass holder and drove to the VIP parking lot behind the venue. A short walk up a gentle incline and we were at the gates. The pavilion's web site gives clear instructions on what is and is not allowed. They checked my small bag and off we went. Tickets read the doors open at 6:30p but due to some heavy partying one band had not even done their sound check yet. They opens the gates 15 minutes later. We made our way to the way back of the theatre where the VIP section was. Showed our tickets got a bracelet and off to the VIP area where they have two full bars, 3 small fire pits with ample chairs and on the upper level couches and tables as well as bar stools to enjoy your beverage. We got our drinks and off we went to our seats. We were seated behind the orchestra section with the whole box to ourselves. We sat down for maybe 10 minutes and the show started. Ratt was OK but slow, they must have been the ones hung over, they sounds sluggish. Only knew one song they sang so glad they were not the head liner. A break for bathrooms and more beverages with some free popcorn. Then Vince Neil came on. He was good. Danced to a few of his songs from Motley Crew. The lighting and effects were great, really energized the crowd. Another intermission found it my turn for drinks. Two beers, a small box of wine, and a THC drink to the total of $58! WOW! $72 with tip ouch! The headliner was Brett Michaels. He was AMAZING! Energetic, talking to the crowd, and singing clear and strong bravo! Over all a great experience and will return when able
