Upon arrival, I was disappointed to see the fountain was out of order. There are trails here but they were very short. The park did have some picnic areas as well. The pool area has changed my rooms bathrooms and showers. There is a fee for residents and non residents which is $2 and $4 respectively. The pictures I took do the pool no justice as I took them in mid October so the pool was obviously dirty and hadn't been maintained since closing for the season. The playground has very new equipment and is clean and well maintained. There is a large grassy area nearby the basketball court for frisbee, running your dog or whatever you may like to do. The park is adjacent to the Mansfield Sports Complex which hosts the Senior League World Series each August. This park has it all a must visit for any parent and kids of all ages.

I was with a friend who lives on Mount Desert Island, but since I didn't have time to go out to Acadia National Park, he settled on showing me this place. I guess you Maine folk must be used to Maine scenery, but I was completely astonished by this park. 680 acres of pristine forest, beautiful and majestic. The leaves were starting to turn, and everywhere I looked, I saw lush greenery lighting up with the warm colors of fall. We did a loop on the incredible Orono Bog Boardwalk then strolled through another network of peaceful, picturesque trails. I'm a reluctant hiker in rather pathetic physical condition, and on this particular morning, I was fresh off a redeye from California. But with the clean autumn air and the flat, easy trails, I never even ran out of breath. I think grandparents and small children could cover a lot of ground here without any trouble. I know Bangor City Forest has "City" in its name, but it made this city mouse think of how old-timey doctors would prescribe country air as a cure for various illnesses. I was sorry I only had one day in Maine. A week of nature walks would have been quite restorative.

We were very glad to find this dog park during our visit to Bangor. It has lots of parking and…read moremultiple dog areas. There is also a trail you can take your pup on. Unfortunately for us when we arrived there were only large dogs and the play areas are separated by size. I took our dog out to walk her around a bed and was approached by a small child, maybe 7 years old asking to pet my dog. She asked my dog's name and pet her for a few minutes before heading into the large dog enclosure. There were four or five women in the enclosure and maybe maybe 8 large dogs. I assumed the little girl belonged to one of them. After a few more minutes, I decided to walk my small dog over to the exterior of the large dog area. Sometimes people don't mind mixing and matching sizes as long as you check in with them and we didn't bring our dog to the dog park to sit alone in an enclosure. However, when I got close to the large dog enclosure, I could tell that the women were upset with the child that came in to play with their dogs. They were asking where her parents were and telling her that she shouldn't be inside the enclosure if she doesn't like being jumped on and things of that nature. I allowed my dog to sniff around the outside of the enclosure and tried to greet some of the womento ask if it would be okay if I could bring her in. It was clear they were frustrated with the situation with the little girl and the overall mood was just bad so we decided to walk around outside instead. We did see some teenagers come over to the enclosure later and they apparently were the ones responsible for the small child so they were getting in the earful from the ladies inside as we were leaving. While the park didn't exactly work out for us and we didn't feel very welcome or comfortable, it's very possible that was a unique circumstance. The park itself seems to be a good one, especially if you have a large dog and it's definitely worth a stop to see if your pup can have a better time than ours did.

Agility area is in disrepair. Gates are hard to open or don't even close. Littered with broken dog toys. The poop is the fault of dog owners, clearly. I don't understand going to the effort of bringing your dog somewhere and then being that irresponsible. I won't be going back. The trails right there would be more enjoyable.

This park is great In that it also is next door to the Brewer municipal pool. Very clean and well maintained. The reason for the 4 star review instead of a 5 star review is the fact that there is not a decent sized grassy area for the Kansas did to entertain themselves with a ball or something. I could've said well the pool is enough to make this 5 star, but a park/playground should always have a grassy area imho. This is however just about the perfect park in the area regardless of the rating I gave it.

There are plaques that talk about how the statue came to be and one that talks about the history of Paul Bunyan. It explains that Paul Bunyan came from Maine and he's a real person that was born at 50 pounds. I feel really bad for his mom.
