Poorly run company! We have lived in Lumberton for 25 years and believe in supporting local businesses, why not SLS is right up the street from our house? Last year I called to get Spring cleanup in front & back yard beds & a few plants installed. We dealt with Nicole and she was very easy to work with and really showed that she wanted to please the customer. We paid the bill immediately! I found out right after our project was done (like 2 days later) that Nicole no longer worked for the company. This year I called SLS to have Spring cleanup done again & spoke to Susan, who I now know is the awful office mgr. She said she would have the maintenance Mgr call me back, well he NEVER called. Then I called a few days later and left a message with Susan again and said I never received a call & would like a call back for estimate on spring cleanup. The next day I was looking at my emails and I got one from SLS with a quote & to review & sign, so i signed it and emailed it back. A week later I called Susan again & left a message to see if she got my signed estimate & to call me back and she never did. Another week goes by & I call again and zeroed out on recording to leave message in general mailbox asking for a call back & again no one called. Then my husband called & left a message to call him back and no one returned his call. I then drove to SLS and went into office where I was greeted by Susan and she is a miserable person who seems like she hates her job. I told her my name & that I left 3 messages asking for a call back & my husband called once and no one has called us back in over 3 weeks. She basically acted like she could care less and said she referred my call to Stan the maintenance manager. I again asked why i couldn't get a call back from someone even to say "hey we got your call and we are really busy and we have you on the schedule". She looked at me without a care in the world. She was ignorant and told me to leave when I told her landscapers are a dime a dozen and I don't need to give my hard earned money to a business that doesn't care about their customers. She opened the door to the office and said " that's it your done" and flagged her hand for me to get out! I am shocked by the way she handled a customer when she was completely in the wrong for ignoring a customers calls to begin with!! She should be fired and Sam should be ashamed of how his business is run!! Do yourself a favor and call another landscaping company to avoid a lot of unnecessary bullshit!!! I am an HR Manager & deal with people every day! I would fire an employee that treated customers like that!! read more

Last year, we had a lot of work done in our yard and were very happy with the results. We paid our bill and at the time, could not be happier. Then things changed. The person who I dealt with (Nicole) left. She was great and we made all my arrangements through her. A couple of months ago due to a disagreement with Susan, their Office Manager, SLS has not had the courtesy to return a phone call. I emailed Sam to let him know what transpired thinking that as the head of the company, I could state my case, but I never received an acknowledgment. As a professional, one would assume that he would look into what transpired. He did not. His Office Manager does not respond either. In addition, we signed a contract for lawn fertilization program which we expected to begin and to date, not one single person including Sam has returned our call. This is very unprofessional. It's not that difficult to return a customer's call. Calling, emailing does not help. They ignore it. All this because of a disagreement with their Office Manager? Basically, this company doesn't care and does not honor their end of contracts. However, if it were the other way around, I am sure they would hold you to their contract. The one thing to remember is that "attitude" towards customers begins at the top, Sadly, this is not the case in this company. read more

I paid $1,165.00 for work that was not preformed and/or not performed to my complete satisfaction. I was charged $135 for "Weeding of Rock-bed" that was not preformed at all. I was also changed $600 to clean out and remove debris from landscape bushes & hedges that was not preformed, rather mulch was just thrown on top of dead leaves from last Fall to cover them up. Tree rings were not re-defined around trees in the backyard and new mulch was not applied. I've tried to communicate my concerns with SLS that I was not satisfied with the service preformed and requested that the owner come to my home himself to do a walk around with me and correct the problems but that has not happened. They're constantly hiring managers due to the high employee turnovers and had just promoted Nicole to crew manager who apparently had no idea how to manage the men working under her. So good luck if she's the one who comes to your house for an estimate and to do your landscaping Spring or Fall cleaning. I've learned my lesson and would never hire SLS Landscraping again, there's too many other companies that maybe worthy of my hard earned dollars and would appreciate my business... SLS definitely didn't appreciate my business and the owner never had the decency to return my call of come to my house for a walk around. read more

I worked with Evan at SLS Landscaping located in Lumberton, NJ. I initially hired this company due to having several issues with my lawn. Evan showed an interest in helping me with my lawn and other projects. At first, this company provided very good service. Their services are expensive, but I concluded if they will provide good and prompt service, I was willing to pay for it. I hired SLS on other projects and they never got back to me. I never heard back from Evan or anyone at SLS for three+ months. I recently decided to stop by Evan's office and have a discussion with all of the parties involved. Evan explained he forgot about my projects and he dropped the ball. Evan had also referred me to the irrigation company SLS retains when they have a job - Moore Irrigation located in Voorhees, NJ. The owner's name at Moore Irrigation is Andy Moore. Andy Moore worked on our sprinklers because this was part of the original SLS project. After Moore Irrigation completed phase 1 of our sprinkler project (phase 2 and 3 would follow shortly after,) Andy expressed an interest in helping us with our other sprinkler projects and the start up and shut down of our sprinklers on a yearly basis. Based on Andy's comments to me and his interest in continuing to do business with me, I terminated the irrigation services I had with my existing sprinkler company and gave Andy my business. A few weeks ago, someone brought to my attention that one of my sprinklers was leaking. They explained it must have been leaking for at least two weeks, as the smaller trees located in the landscaping bed had started to lift. The bed was filled with water and the mulch was floating. I contacted Andy promptly to see if he could help me. To date, Andy has not replied. I contacted SLS to see if he could tell me how I could reach Andy and/or to help me understand why he was not responding. Evan explained he would text Andy to let him know I was trying to reach him. Evan also said he would get back to me. He did not. I sent Evan another text (on another day) and Evan replied saying Andy had replied to him - informing him - he was on vacation and he had not taken his laptop. No indication in Evan's text whether Andy was going to get back to me or not. The text message was written by Evan in a way that provided no resolution and was vague. I decided to wait until Andy returned from vacation to see if he would reply to my email of a few weeks ago. He did not. I sent Andy another email asking him to let me know of his intentions to work with me and to get back to me as soon as he could so I would know what I needed to do going forward (whether I needed to locate another sprinkler company.) To date, Andy has not replied to my email. No out of office notification was set up either. Furthermore, what I learned from working briefly with SLS and Moore Irrigation, is that if one company does not follow-through, neither will the other entity. That was my experience. SLS and Moore Irrigation are two separate and distinct entities. And, finally, if you are wondering why I made several attempts to reach out to SLS and Moore Irrigation? I did it because it was left with me by both entities they were interested in doing business with me. I thought it was easier to work with my existing contractors than to start over with someone else, given that it is already Sept. I also gave both entities an opportunity to opt out, but they did not take it. I concluded these two entities either make you wait long enough and in silence to see if you will go away or they really do not provide good service, as they both claim they do. In my opinion, ignoring a customer for whatever reason shows no character or integrity. Misleading people is not only not professional, it is not nice. Acting in bad faith is also a bad reflection on both of them. As for my payment history with both entities, I paid their invoices upon receipt and I never complained about the amount I was charged. During a conversation Evan had with me, he made negative comments towards one of my neighbors that had contacted SLS in the past regarding the removal and planting of new Leyland Cypress (30+ trees) on his property. Evan explained to me that my neighbor was cheap because my neighbor decided to go in a different direction. Evan repeatedly explained SLS does not work with people that are not willing to pay for their expensive services. I never complained or questioned their bills. I also waited patiently for months before I reached out to SLS for a project status. We also had discussions about hardscaping services on my property, tree plantings, and other landscaping services totaling way over $60K once it was all done, yet they do not have the ability to follow-through on projects they committed to do. We used Sam's for several years. Compared to other lawn services they are quite expensive. Whenever we had particular concerns regarding our own property, they were always quite dismissive. For example, we regularly asked them to close our fence gates when they were done mowing the lawn. The open gates allowed neighborhood children into our property and regularly caused our dogs to escape. I called them to remind them every few months. I can count on one hand the number of times they actually bothered to remember. One time when I forgot to pay them for as their weekly mowing they threatened legal action against me even though I had been a customer for years. All of that aside, their lawn work was always good and they always did the work they were contracted for. read more

Do not use! Too many others to choose. nicole Is very friendly on phone at first, to get your business, i figured out. Just wanted beds weeded, edged, and mulch put down and a couple of shrubs removed. The shrubs were only cut down to ground nothing removed from dirt. My husband had to hack away at it himself. We saw them attempt it but then gave up. Money wasted there. $350. The mulch had a ton of rocks in it. Some as big as my palm. And then only put down 1 inch. We already have dirt and weeds. When i asked to have a dead shrub cut back the worker called it in and she called me and rudely told me it would cost extra. Nickel and dime you. When i emailed her about the rocks and issues i received no reply. Sent 3 emails. No reply. They do not have integrity or quality work or products. One guy used my front lawn to try to repair one of his pieces of equipment. Nice up front to get your business. I paid total a 1,200. Never again!!!!! Always check reviews!!!!! We had a patio put in for our backyard. We had pavers along with seat walls installed with lighting. Great customer service, very accommodating, and quality workmanship. Henry the designer was a gentleman throughout the process. On a couple of occasions we needed to make changes that required the workers to change course. Everyone involved was very patient and worked to meet the customers needs. Would strongly recommend the company for those interested in patios. read more

We gave SLS Landscaping $25,000 worth of paver business and initially it appeared to look good however over time the work continued to go down hill. I had walls cave in, I had steps collapse, pavers sinking, lighting go out and on and on. We thought by staying local and having him right down the street, we could trust the company but totally the contrary. Sam basically took our money and was done. His own lead guy admitted the job was done poorly but used the excuse that it was before his time. I urge you to think twice before giving him ANY business. This is our first year with the company and everything started out well. They promised you the world and once you sign the contracts, they didn't deliver. Their crew came out to do the planting, spring clean up and mulching and what a disaster. The trees were planted with the burlap still tied to the trunk. The crew threw trash all over our property and in the trees. They damaged the outdoor lighting and too many other things to name. What a disaster! They then sent a bill and without any reminders, cut off our service. What kind of a way is that to do business. I then called the office and paid them (stupid of me huh?) and they wouldn't even cut the lawn till the check cleared. I would NEVER use them again or refer anyone in our town to use them.
