That defect led to significant excess oil usage, including two large deliveries in a short period. Once the issue was fixed, consumption dropped immediately, so the cause was obvious. I requested a conservative $200 credit to partially offset the excess fuel cost. They offered $50 and then ignored multiple follow-ups over several weeks, ultimately repeating the same offer without addressing the issue. I have been with slomin's for years, during this Januarys cold weather I was running of oil even though I have automatic delivery I had to give them a call they said I couldn't get a delivery in less than 5 days, I would have run out so I had to call someone else that's ridiculous. Second story I needed a burner replacement called a few people about some estimates.Slomin's was my choice because they took care of the permits and everything, they arrived with a full crew and dismantled my old burner and replaced with the new burner in a day. The crew was excellent in explaining there every move and when they left the place looked like they were never there, spotless. Complaint about Slomin's I signed a five-year monitoring agreement and paid over $600 upfront for extra equipment. I was concerned at my age (80) about signing a 5 year contract but was told by the salesman that the company was flexible about the term if my circumstances changed. After approximately 2 1/2 years, I requested to end the agreement because the monthly payments kept increasing (above what I budgeted to pay) and I wasn't requiring the monitoring service. Although the company eventually with pressure on my part offered a discounted settlement, I was disappointed because it did not reflect the assurances I received during the sales process. I offered to pay the remaining balance of the equipment costs but they wanted payment for continued monitoring (which I wouldn't be using) for an unreasonable additional time period I ultimately paid the settlement because I didn't want this to affect my credit rating. I believe prospective customers should carefully review the contract terms and not rely solely on verbal representations." Look for a different company!!!....They have refused to deliver fuel twice because of a light coating of snow (+\-1") on a private road all main roads were down to bare asphalt , conditions that small cars travel with no problem. If a heating oil company won't deliver during normal winter conditions, they are not dependable when you actually need heat. I would highly recommend avoiding contracts where you're stuck with unreliable service. A week later they called and unapologetically told me that they would have to return and install the right one. I had to take extra days off from work. Technicians were gruff and the company was unapologetic. When they installed it they left old broken wires which almost burned down my house. They did not make it clear that they were not replacing intake air vent in house. They nailed it shut and now I cant replace my filter. We are on Slomin's automatic delivery plan and were told during sign-up that deliveries typically occur about once every 30 days. That appeared true at first -- until winter. Our last oil delivery was December 22, and there was no delivery at all in January, despite it being the coldest part of the season. Slomin's states in their contract that deliveries are determined by a calculated system based on prior usage and weather conditions. However, this makes no sense in practice. We experienced sustained freezing temperatures from late December through January and into February. Any system that genuinely considers temperature and usage would not skip an entire January delivery. During a February extreme cold weather alert weekend, our tank dropped to approximately 1/8 full. We contacted Slomin's multiple times to warn them of the low fuel level and the dangerous weather conditions. Despite this, we were told delivery would not occur until the following week, creating a serious risk of running out of oil in freezing temperatures. What was especially alarming is that customer service stated they were not treating this as an emergency and explained that a delivery would generally not be made until a customer has completely run out of oil -- meaning no heat and no hot water -- at which point a limited "emergency" delivery might be provided. This expectation makes no sense during extreme cold weather, when waiting until heat is fully lost poses serious safety risks. This position directly contradicts Slomin's own contract, which places responsibility on the customer to monitor fuel levels and notify Slomin's when oil is running low. That is exactly what we did. We monitored our tank, saw it approaching a critical level, and proactively contacted Slomin's multiple times. Being told to wait until the tank is empty before action is taken completely undermines that requirement and defeats the purpose of automatic delivery. This is particularly concerning given that our household includes a senior, young grandchildren, one of whom is asthmatic, and a pet. Waiting without heat in freezing temperatures is not just uncomfortable -- it poses real health and safety risks. Adding to the confusion, our online account showed a "scheduled delivery" date of February 1, but when we called, customer service stated this date was "only an estimate." A scheduled delivery and an estimated delivery are not the same thing, and the website does not make that distinction clear. There is also a significant disconnect between verbal assurances and the written contract. Customer service told us that if we ran out of oil, Slomin's would treat it as an emergency and restart the system without charge. However, the contract clearly states that Slomin's is not responsible for run-outs or any resulting damage. In reality, running out of oil often requires a paid service call to bleed and restart the burner, especially during weekends or extreme cold. I also find it troubling that many similar complaints appear to come from customers on fixed-price contracts, while higher-priced non-contract customers seem to receive deliveries more promptly. I personally observed Slomin's trucks making deliveries in my neighborhood during this time, so deliveries were clearly occurring -- just not to us. Automatic delivery should mean proactive monitoring, especially during extreme weather. Instead, we were left stressed and scrambling during a cold weather emergency. Slomins review Stay far away from these guys. I have never seen a company go downhill as quickly as Slomins. I'm not sure what happened to them - my guess is that it was either sold to a bad operator or inherited by inept kids, but they have swindled me six ways to Sunday. When I first signed with them, I knew it was a short term contract because we planned on major construction in a few months. the sales rep had told me I could buy the equipment and turn on/off the service at will by relocating the equipment. This seemed sensible, so I signed up. When it came time to put the service on hold, they told me that it wasn't possible and I'd have to continue paying their monthly fee with a 5 year commitment. I'd dealt with Slomins in the past with a very similar arrangement and had no problem. Clearly, I shouldn't have trusted the rep I was dealing with and read the whole contract in detail. When I told the 'customer service' rep that I'd like to speak to my account rep, they refused to provide his info or leave a message on my behalf (After looking back on my messages, I was able to contact him only into find out he left the company). I finally agreed to a 3 month suspension of service, only to receive an invoice the following month. Their support is more like a defensive line. They don't address what you tell them and just repeat themselves. Customer service is non existent. These guys won't be around much longer anyway, no one needs to pay a 'technician' to walk around their house putting up self stick sensors. There are some great off the shelf alarm systems that can be picked up online or at Best Buy. These systems are better and easier than dealing with Slomins and have excellent central station service. Well, I've gotten no where by email, phone call or even Facebook messages!! Phone rep call went like this : I do have 2 charges on credit card for oil , he said no, there just one ! I said no, bank says there are 2, I said can you tell me when we might get oil, response was , no, I dont know . I asked for a supervisor, he responded no, we dont have supervisors, I responded with, I can tell you dont. Now at the end of the day. We have 2 charges to dispute on our card and no oil in our tank and not a single call from the company to straighten this mess out. Have a contract with slomins and our fuel gauge is on empty. Had to shut down the furnace so running on empty tank doesn't damage it. Contacted them a week ago for a delivery because we low even though we have auto delivery contract. Then called the last three days and they said they would come on the 14th and we are not an emergency until it runs completely out which will damage our furnace. For such a big operation, you would think they would have their "ducks in a row" but they do not. Unfortunately, I had to deal with an inexperienced young technician that didn't repair a leaking oil filter on the first visit, which required a second visit from a much better tech to solve. Additionally, a crack in my tank was also initially detected, which then caused the need for a temporary tank and all of my freshly filled oil to be removed. I was told I would receive a quote/callback to discuss a tank replacement, which was rejected since I had informed them I decided to convert to GAS. Slomin's claims they do not have a record of me informing them that I was converting to gas.They claim on my record there is nothing stating I am converting to gas, when this was clearly conveyed to them..."selective or non-existent note-taking" on their part will always suit their narrative, not the customer. You have been warned. All I have to say is the transaction was SHADY as the tech just took my credit card and never provided a receipt or terms of service or explained anything about the temporary tank and I never signed or witnessed anything. Needless to say Slomin's completed subbed out the job, charged my card and then, days later, tried to charge me TAX to my Slomin's account because.... the tech never handled the transaction properly so Slomin's can price gouge. If that wasn't enough, after informing Slomin's I wanted the oil and temp tank removed since I was switching to gas after this horrible experience, and I didn't want get charged MORE for having the tank longer, they sent somone over to SPECIFICALLY FILL A TEMPORARY TANK THAT WAS 75% FULL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SUMMER. Think about this.... is this the kind of business you want handling that smelly, messy expensive oil system you have or are maintaining? I placed a one-time heating oil delivery order over a week ago and never received it -- despite being repeatedly told that it was coming "today." I called four times and sent three emails. Each time, I was assured the delivery was scheduled and would arrive that day. For three days waited for my heating oil to arrive. No delivery. No follow-up. No accountability. No apology for the inconvenience or horrendous customer service. As a result, my home has been without heat for two full days. I have a six-month-old baby and two young children, and being left in that situation in the middle of this frigid winter is completely unacceptable. Delays can happen -- but misleading customers multiple times and failing to communicate honestly is inexcusable. This was my first experience with this company, and it will absolutely be my last. I have been a customer of Slomin's for the past 15 years and the service has always been a little weak but not bad enough to write a review or cancel until today. My equipment needs replacement because the keypad is sticking and we can't always activate the system. To get the service call we had to wait 3 weeks to replace the keypad. I could not get a specific time for the serve (come to expect that) but they said they will let me know the day of service. Today it the service day and I can't get a time. They have had me waiting since 8:00 AM and they may not be able to reach me until 6:00 PM. I was told the job may take several hours to complete. I told them I have plans this evening, which I told them when booking the service, and they can't tell me if they will be able to complete the work within my timeframe. They will not reschedule and I am told that if they can't complete the service today I can call back to reschedule tomorrow. STAY FAR AWAY. At least every 2 months this alarm fails. Randomly, the alarm goes off for no reason and can't be shut off. Regularly, the pad gets stuck in connecting to hub mode and can't be re-set, resulting in the alarm going off. Tech support includes telling me to use a paperclip (yeah, really) to disengage the alarm. When this doesn't work, one has to go looking for their equipment to unplug and then remove a battery pack from the board. This is a multi-step process. The system keeps chirping and more actions need to be taken, or the alarm will go off in the middle of the night. Finally, the alarm is disengaged. But they need to send someone out. TEN DAY WAIT FOR TECH SUPPORT TO COME!!!!!!!! No refunds until tech support has come. Try to cancel the service. Nope, predatory business. Sales person said contract could be cancelled at any time. With glee, the nasty phone person told me, you can cancel, you have to remove the equipment yourself, and you are actually locked in for another 47 months, so you will have to pay, even if you cancel. Sales person Joe came to our home to upgrade our system that was installed by Slomins l30 years ago. Told him what we wanted and he said no problem, but there was he never got out of chair to see what we wanted and the contract had next to nothing we asked for. Then we asked for Saturday install- no problem He said - we called Friday to find out time - oh we don't work on Saturday. But they scheduled a Saturday for 2 weeks after than a Dish Tech shows up with very little pieces for system and he tells us they can install all but not but activation pad on wall only Slomins can do that. We say by thank you and the guy Joe from sales comes right over sorry let's fix it. Again he does not put on contract what we wanted. Tech came April 8,2026 I told him the story he said he would take care of everything and he did. I called the company and was told that a technician visit would cost \$85. I responded that it was unfair to charge me for service when their monitoring equipment was faulty. They offered me an alternative: if I signed up for a one-year contract extension, there would be no charge. I agreed, with no change to the cost of my plan. Today, a technician came to my home and replaced the defective sensor. Yet just minutes later, I received a \$149 invoice from Slomins for a service they had told me would be free. A scheduled oil delivery was not completed because the driver claimed they could not access the oil fill pipe -- despite the fact that nothing has changed at my property and no previous driver has ever had a problem locating or accessing it over the past decade. When I contacted customer service to resolve the issue, the experience was even worse. The representatives were unhelpful, dismissive, and failed to properly escalate the problem. There was no urgency, no ownership, and no effort to resolve what was clearly a service failure on Slomin's end. For a long-standing customer, this level of service is extremely disappointing. I have been calling for an oil delivery for the past two weeks and as to no avail. First I was emailed an estimate time of oil delivery for the week of May the 4 - 7. NO delivery, therefore I placed the company a phone call and was given lame excuses from the gentleman on the other end of the phone. He then informed me that he would put in an order with dispatch so that a delivery can be made for the 8th of May or 11th. Here we are on May 13th and still NO oil delivery.
