Well, when in Wabasha, MN.... AND just because we've all seen the Grumpy Old Men movie.... You just gotta stop into Slippery's !!! Though the movie wasn't filmed here... it based on some actual characters from Wabasha. No matter.... we stopped for a cold beer. Had a local Rush River Amber beer which was good. We also ordered the Walleye fish sandwich with fries and a side of coleslaw. Never had Walleye before.... It was actually very good. It was a moist, thick fillet on a hoagie roll......enough to share. They do have a fun shop to pick up t-shirts with "Grumpy" movie related things. Only thing.... It does need a bit of a "refresh" ..... it was a tad musty, but then, they are right on Mississippi River. If you get to Wabasha..... it is definitely a fun stop.

Even with the inside closed due to flooding. The outdoor patio was open with great music. Great service. Cold cold beer!!!!

So yes we went here because we loved the Grumpy Old Men movies but it was an excellent bar and grill. Food was amazing. I had the walleye and my husband had the moron chicken sandwich, lol! The gift shop and the sales person was great, we spent $200!

Half eaten slippery burger - sorry I was hunger and forgot to pic before I started to fill my mouth. Lol

I definitely didn't see any grumpy men here - rather everyone seemed to be having fun and enjoying this bar restaurant on the shore of the Mississippi! The claw chowder soup special was thick well flavored and chum full of clams (get it - chum?). I had a bowl of the soup and split a "slippery" burger - which was plenty of food for lunch. The burger was done perfectly and juicy. Definitely worth a visit - sit out side and watch the boaters go by was a plus

I can't believe the reviews on this place. OK, we're laid back out of towners. Maybe we're easy to please. But the jalapeno cream cheese poppers with raspberry sauce were to die for. They were SO good. We were actually "uuuuunngh!!" outloud in our booths. And the view was gorgeous. And the beer was cheap and served and in a perfectly frosted mug. And our server was super sweet and timely. Got absolutely nothing to complain about.

Lots of memorabilia from long defunct breweries. My Bloody Mary was excellent as were my fish tacos. There are multiple options for pescatarians though probably a bit more challenging for vegans, which is not unusual in this part of the world. While we visited their onsite brewing was on hiatus because they need to be re-licensed after the ownership change. Looking forward to that happening!

I had the soup special, a bowl of the French Onion Soup, and my wife had the Pub Burger. Although both dishes were presented attractively, neither one had a "wow" factor, and in fact, were bland and lacking in flavor. It's too bad because,I was really in the mood for Onion Soup. The onions were cooked well, but the soup really was lacking in taste. I think the broth tasted like canned broth and did not have any depth of flavor. My wife felt the same way about the hamburger; it also was bland. So neither dish was particularly memorable. So one less star for food. They also loose another star for their continued surcharge for both a credit card and a debit card. When I rated this place two years ago, they were charging a 5% "employee pay supplement" which is no longer legal. However, it is also illegal to charge a 3% surcharge on both credit cards and debit cards (this new law was effective in January of 2025). Restaurants CAN charge for credit cards, but it is illegal to surcharge for debit cards. In fact, not only is this a Minnesota law, it is a Federal law, and part of the rules for Visa and Mastercard. Another option is that restaurants CAN give a cash discount from the menu, but to do that the menu must show prices using the credit card price and state that they give a (in this case) a 3% discount for cash (note: a menu discount, not a menu surcharge). If a credit or debit card is used, then it must match the MENU price and the check needs to show the menu price total, and separately show the cash discount. I tried to show the General Manager this law and explain it, but he was very dismissive and borderline rude. At first he tried to tell me their was a discount for paying in cash, so I asked him if that was discount off of the menu price, and he said no. A lack of a surcharge is NOT a discount; it is a surcharge!
