This is a dive bar. It has quite a history back when then had live music. Jazz legends have played here. And their pics adorn the walls. But the stage has been boarded up for storage. Never less the place is still pretty hip. Tap beer served in 8 ounce glasses for a buck and a half. Regional craft beers available. No light beer as the neon sign says. Cash only. Pool, darts, and pinball. Jukebox. Epic beer can collection above the bar. Postcards from all over. The barber chair by the door (not sure about the backstory on that). The stained glass windows great "the green room" up front which will occasionally have some people studying. They have a few bags of chips, no food. Dogs seem to be allowed. No A/C, so it's hot on hot summer days, even with the ceiling fans at full blast. I think you'll either love it or hate it. Not much in between. I happen to love it. There's and old pay phone that doesn't work and a old cigarette machine adorned with pics of pets instead of cancer sticks. The Joynt is an excellent place to grab a drink, or 5, even twice within 24hrs. (Hey, we were on vacation!) From the outside, The Joynt looks so lovely. Brick, vines, flowers, and awnings. I figured it was a little bistro but boy was I happy when I realized it was a solid local watering hole. I love the divey decor of mix-matched seating, postcards from patrons, classic cartoons, every beer can ever, neon signs, you name it. The service was perfect and the price was right too! $6 for a whole pitcher of beer! We saw happy regulars come and go, including cute four-legged ones. We enjoyed stopping here in the day before a festival and then of course at night after the fest. read more

As a 'local' and a student, the Joynt was a double edged sword -- a great place to hang out with eclectic people, listen to one of the most diverse juke boxes in the world, shoot pool, and generally avoid the obligations outside. After moving away to find golden eggs, the search was on for a suitable replacement for the Joynt. I was told it was impossible, and concluded, long ago, that it is. I tried, really... I've found many joints that have great qualities, but never one that has the same combination. I truly look forward to the next time I can pull up a bar stool (or possibly the barber's chair) and catch up with my friends in EC. read more

They sell cheap (but no light) beer; I'm talking $6 for a pitcher of beer, which is perfect for splitting with friends before a night out on the town. Their jukebox has hundreds of new and old options to choose from for only $1. We stopped by on both a Friday and Saturday and it seemed to have a steady but diverse crowd of people in and out of there all weekend. read more

The Joynt is officially my favorite bar in the entire world. I have now moved from Eau Claire, but I will always be a regular patron in my heart. There's no bar that makes me feel more at home than The Joynt. From their peanut-covered floor, $1.50 gin & tonics, $5 pitchers of Point and their montage of old beer cans and Jazz photos--you can't find a better place! Their jukebox is filled with GOOD music, that keeps the atmosphere at a constant random spiral of moods throughout the evening. (well, that could be the alcohol talking too) I admit, it can be a bit intimidating coming there for the first few times. You can feel overwhelmed by the familiarity that the crowd has with each other and the bartenders have with their regulars, but if you keep coming back you will find your niche and feel better and better each time! I will forever miss the cheap prices of their drinks, as I am now in California where it is expensive and I have yet to find a replacement where I am comfortable enough. A place that lets me sit in the barber chair and check ID's even if I don't work there. A place where the tenders know my name and drink (perhaps I drank there to much). First of all this place is an institution. A historic bar. If it's not a landmark it should be. Most of the beers are $1 (12 ounce glass). 50 cents if you go during happy hour (everyday, 5-7). The bar staff is incredibly kind. During most Packer there's a table of free food in the back. Rail mixers are $2 and their bloodies are $2.50, which is a great deal. Patrons of the Joynt, in general, are kind-hearted and loving folks. The J doesn't serve lite beer and they don't take cards. Which is great for me because I don't like lite beer and I don't spend more than I should in a night. Shout out to The Joynt. Keep up the good work. read more

I was in town for one night and went by to check it out. It's everything you hope for it to be and maybe a little more? I wouldn't make this is sole destination, but it's a great stop along the way. Best bar in America! A place where old farts like me and college kids can have a great time. Why? Because of the ambience, cheap prices, great jukebox and above all, the terrific people that work there. We discovered The Joynt 13 or 14 years ago on a trip up to the Northwoods. Our group of 10 fell in love with the place in the first 15 minutes. Back then, Jack was our regular bartender. Even though we would visit only once a year, he would always remember "that crazy group from Chicago". You couldn't put together a better group of people to run a bar. Bill and his wife have done a great job of keeping The Joynt tradition and vibe alive. We need more joints in the world like The Joynt. We miss our friends Jack and Wacky, the trusty mascot. Without a doubt, The Joynt is one of the most interesting and cool bars I've ever been to. It's hipster without trying, and historic without being outdated. Truly amazing to see such a fantastic confluence of all that is good. With a lively and eclectic crowd, you're sure to find some interesting folks to strike up conversation with, but also not so packed that you feel obligated to. The juke box is diverse and delightful. The beers are all under $2 (I believe), and while smaller servings, the variety of craft beers makes for an inexperience time, with plenty of choice. Sure, there's no light beers, but the selection doesn't force you to go with something you'll regret in the name of snobbery or awkwardness. You definitely have folks who do their best to be pretentious, and it's easy to slip into that, given the atmosphere, but over all, it couldn't be further from the truth. The bar staff is very friendly and entertaining too. The place is cash-only, but there's an ATM less than a block away. The cash also makes the staff's life easier and makes sure the service is fantastic. read more

Love, love, love The Joynt. Great atmosphere, cheap drinks, great bartenders. You can literally not carry on a conversation on a busy weekend in any other bar on Water St, except the Joynt. The crowd is mixed as well. Older and younger people, some definite "hipsters", but no annoying 'teenieboppers'. A pitcher of Berghoff for $5.50 during happy hour, a vibrant and unique atmosphere, and a neon sign that says "No Light Beer." This is the best bar in Eau Claire. As a result, it is best to go during the week or during the afternoon, otherwise finding a seat can be tricky. read more

To quote Beck: Hell Yes! I love this place. Came here for the first time the other day whilst visiting a friend who goes to school in Eau Claire and had a blast. They have a good selection of beers, although I only drank Berghoff. And the prices? Let's just say I can get a pitcher here for what I pay for a beer in San Diego. Their jukebox is a little treasure trove of fantastic tunes and was much appreciated after spending a nauseating period in the Pickle. The Joynt was like my second childhood home; my Dad has known the owner of the place since he moved to Eau Claire in the 60s. The walls of the Joynt are lined with photos of Jazz, blues and Classic Rock greats of my parents time. If you squint your inebriated eyes and look a bit closer you will notice that many of those photos are autographed; these people all once performed at the Joynt. It used to be a major stop for tours going between Chicago and Minneapolis. Music has changed, so its less of a mainstay at the Joynt, Wacky died a while after Jack, but little else has changed at the Joynt. For me, it is a place where "everybody knows your name" at least by day, by night its a UWEC coed drunk fest. Cheap beer (No light beer) abound; day and night this place is a surefire adventure even amidst the monotony of Eau Claire. read more

Complete hipster bar. If you don't fit the hipster way of life be prepared to not feel welcomed by the people inside. I went there with a friend and we were simply sitting at the bar enjoying a beer when some "regular" customers decided to pour beer on me because I looked like I didn't belong. This bar is the same as it was 80 years ago. If you once was a regular here, coming back is a time warp! No a/ c in summer just like grandpa had it then. Many memories from college and years after. I sat on this stool for about 7 years before I moved away from Eau Claire and I will never ever find a place anywhere near like it ever again. Like a warm Midwestern hug made of $1 pours of Grain Belt Premiums and portraits of old jazz dudes (Mingus, Tyner, etc.) who somehow performed in tiny Joynt back in the day. Generally a "back in the day" kind of vibe, but not a deliberate nostalgia zone or throwback-hip, just an awesome and inviting little local bar with stained glass, old stools, and cheap beer. read more

Super cheap drinks, which is awesome on a college budget. They have inexpensive beer, but I always get mixed drinks and they are always made on the strong side. Great atmosphere, relaxed and fosters good conversation. The front tables are perfection for those breezy summer nights when they open the windows. Also, clean bathrooms. Have only been a couple of times but I love the funky vibe - eclectic and just a little hippy.

One of the only bars I have frequented where you can drink all day and into the night and be completely comfortable. Awesome laid back atmosphere and vibe. Sit in the barbers chair and sweetly pass the time reading the paper or chatting up the locals. Graduated in 95 and will always have fond memories.
