After ordering a couple beers and making small talk I was welcomed with open arms by the initially grumpy older lady bartender. I'm from Minnesota, that makes me a Vikings fan. The medallions I selected were cooked medium rare as requested, juicy and tender, but lacked seasoning. The mashed potatoes that were on my plate needed more butter and/or gravy. I think the big issue with this place would be parking, as it's in a high-traffic area and doesn't have it's own lot. Even going for dinner as early as we did, street parking was scarce.

Found a spot at the bar and, after watching the classic Leinenkugel "starry night" sign put on its show and chatting wi the convivial barkeep about "Wisconsin winter weather", had the fish with two sides (salad and fries) and a Spotted Cow on tap. The food set the "pub grub" to a higher level. The panko-covered-fish and fries and generously-sized salad were great. Since the Amber is within walking distance from my apartment, I think I will be making it my Friday night go-to.
