My family is from PhilAdelphi's PA and Slims Place was highly recommended by my friends. We arrived at Slims only to be greeted by Taylor, the bartender, in a rude manner. She questioned our Philly roots, out cheesesteak and beer selections, how long we were going to be there, and when we were leaving. All with an attitude. She seemed not to like us because we were tourists and occupying seats of her regular patrons. At one point Taylor was so rude to us my fiancé and her daughter left the restaurant to go shopping. Our trip was great except for this experience. We don't recommend visiting Slims Place to tourists and we will not be going back. The owmer was very nice and friendly, however. We got a takeout for New Year's Eve and we know they were slammed with orders but the food was really lackluster. Their garlic Parmesan wings were one of the most under seasoned wings I've ever had. The wait staff was rude and did not acknowledge our presence for a good 15 minutes and we actually had to flag someone to give us menus and glasses of water. The food was awful when it arrived. Green beans that were not cooked (raw). One set of silverware for two people. Had to again flag someone to ask for another set. Had one beer and they never came back to offer another or check on the food. Fish tacos were scant and cold. Tater tot's were good, I will give them that. I called Slim's to place a to-go food order. A female answered the phone and said "I'll be back with you in 1 second" 8 minutes later the phone went dead. I attempted to recall them seven times before I finally drove there and placed my order in person. When greeted by the two female staff employees neither one wanted to admit that they were the ones that put me on hold. Instead they became arrogant and Emily made a smart remark about there's only two of us. We want you to dine in. In my opinion Emily and Taylor both need to have a lesson in customer service. I would be surprised if PJ the owner believes this is a good approach to someone trying to give them business. Nonetheless as long as those two are employed there I will not spend another dollar in this establishment. If you read their description of their Sunday dinner it's supposed to come with meatballs sausage and plenty of gravy sauce as they call it. The steak was perfectly cooked, the toppings were loaded, and the tots were crispy and delicious I paired it with an unsweet iced tea with a splash of Sprite, which was so refreshing with the meal. The service was just as great as the food. Sheri was fantastic--super friendly, attentive, and clearly someone who genuinely cares about the people she's serving. We stopped at Slim's Place for a taste of home after a beautiful walk on Bean Point Beach on Anna Maria Island. It's a perfect spot to pop in and watch the Phillies game. This was our first time at slims after being on the island every year for the last few years. Slims is a restaurant/bar on the north side of the island that carries a pretty wide menu. To give you an idea, we ordered cheesesteaks, pizzas, pasta, Philly pretzels, grouper tacos and mac n cheese. So much more on the menu too. We walked in and while it was busy, only waited about 20 mins for a big table. (Party of 7) Unfortunately that was the shortest wait. After about 15 mins i got up and asked for menus as we had not been given any yet. After that, took us about 15 mins to get Our drink orders in. Then another 15-20 to get our food order in. I know it was busy but we did see other tables around us getting their food and they ordered after us. As the food slowly came out, there really wasn't anything that was bad. The Philly's were delicious. Steak shredded well, lots of cheese, flavor throughout and the bread held well. Mac n cheese was extra creamy. My kids devoured it! Pretzel was delicious. Hot, crispy on the outside while being soft on the inside. Great cheese to dip. Grouper tacos had lots of flavor and fresh ingredients. Pizza was a little doughy, but overall, very good as well. Loved the local beers they had on tap. With the exception of the fact that it took us nearly 2 hours for dinner, slims gets my vote of approval. Just don't go if you need a quick meal! read more

The "Philly" pretzel supposedly is all the way from Philly but you can buy it any dollar store across the country. Pizza came out barely warm, cheese not even melted. Quite possibly the best Cheesesteak outside of Philly! Wandered into this bar unknowing that it was an Eagles bar, so felt right at home. My friends and family had the Cheesesteak, Philly tots, Thai tuna tacos, Pizza and Wings. Everything was delicious! Chef Jason is a master! We were let known our table was reserved for the eagles game during the end of the third quarter of the game we came to watch . Server came and told up to basically finish up and leave. Really upsetting. We sat down, ordered drinks and appetizers and waited for everything. Our drinks were brought out while we waited and then after a long wait (30 minutes) we were told the computer system and printer were down and that the kitchen couldn't take any orders. We had hungry children, and upon expressing our disappointment with not being told that food would not come out earlier, we were rudely told to leave and "never come back." The woman (didn't get her name) that was taking names for the waiting list was very rude to not only our party but another person who was trying to put their name on it. She misheard the name that the gentleman said and he gave her the correct name and giggled. She got mad and said 'how the f am I supposed to know? I don't know you.' We also ordered a pitcher of beer while we were waiting and when we decided not to dine there after she was rude to the other person, someone in my party put their glass on the bar and the same person snapped at him for doing it and was very sarcastic. They have a Philly cheesesteak with the cheese wiz and it's perfect, as well as their huge lobster Mac n cheese portions. You can go from seafood to bar here and they all do it well. I really liked the Mac and cheese. It was creamy and warm and I wanted that. The reason for the docked stars is because the restaurant was absolutely packed, and it was very loud between the people trying to talk (yell) over the volume of the tvs and also the waitress forgot to put our order in so we were waiting for over an hour. They were short staffed in the kitchen which I can understand and sympathize with. The food still came out hot and yummy. But the wait was really long, and the fact that our order wasn't entered was a bummer. They gave us 25% off our bill which was a nice gesture. I would surely give them another try as I'm sure it was just an off night. But if you want yummy food, this is a good place to go. Give them a try, and get the Philly.
