D & G Balkan Café and Euro market - Homemade bread

D & G Balkan Café and Euro market

Eatings Greeting from the Hazelton hills ! The BALKAN…read moreSANDWICH (13$) Polish ham, Romanian garlic bologna , old fashioned ham, Swiss , LTO, AJVAR ( a Balkan relish made from roasted red peppers & eggplant) mayo, on FRESH premise baked bread. This bulging buxom Balkan beauty was as round as a hubcap and as big as a bear skull ( but tastier). For 13$ this was a HELL of a great deal! I've had D&G Balkan Cafe & Euro Market on my Sandwich radar about a year now ( thank you Sandwich Comrades for posting ) and finally made the trip up to coal country to try it, and was so blown away I nearly SCAMUTZED myself. ! The bread was fluffy yet firm and definitely required 2 hands to eat, and the contents generously stacked as high as the Carpathian mountains. The lovely lady who made my Sandwich , and answered my pesky deluge of questions , told me that her mom, the owner, bakes all the bread daily at 3am. You can tell this Sandwich was made with love , in fact , it looked EXACTLY like the pic that they advertise. I'm new to Balkan cuisine so it was a thrill getting something with AJVAR, a condiment I've tried before , but never on a Sandwich. I ate half and had the rest the next day. If you're ever in the majestic hills of HAZELTON be sure to pay this cool cozy cafe a visit and try a new Sandwich. Bonus pic below of the color print outs of their Sandwich selection . Fun BALKAN facts - During WW2 a lesser known battle of good vs evil was fought in the Carpathian mountains of Romania. When Nazis looted the silver crosses from an old church they unknowingly unleashed an ancient evil deity named MOLASAR. The silver crosses , usually guarded by the KEEP, would've kept his evil ass out of trouble , but NO ... MOLASAR was out to wreak havok and FOG MACHINES upon the village, hoping for world domination . Lucky for everyone , wandering swordsman Glaeken Trismesegesus stopped by and fought MOLASAR with a cool light show while Tangerine Dream played synth 80s music. The defeated MOLASAR returned to his unearthly realm, taking all his fog machines with him. For more information please watch the film THE KEEP ( 1983) . Keep that SANDWICH HAND STRONG #Sandwichpresident
