So every Friday night my Wife and I pick a place to go out to dinner. At least every other week I say Slice HouseI And my Wife invariably replies, In Thousand Oaks? You want to drive to Thousand Oaks in Friday Rush Hour traffic? Don't you think it would be better to stop by for lunch sometime during the week? And I always concede the point and we go somewhere else for dinner. And despite our best intentions, we never actually make it to Thousand Oaks for lunch. I suffer without Slice House for months and months. Time passes, but the memories of Slice House slices past burn brightly and sustain me through my darkest days. And then, to my utter astonishment, a Slice House opens in Ventura. Oh my freaking god! Suddenly I can have Slice House any time I want it. I can have it every week. It's like I won the damn lottery! Slice House is the only pizza place I've ever been to that I like every single type of pizza on the menu. And you know, if you ever want to stop by to pick up some slices and meet me at the park for lunch, I don't care which slice you pick for me. They're all fire. Mikey C says: Slice House every week!!!!

Wow- Slice House feels like it's a hit right from the start. I went for lunch on a Sat. for my first visit. It's steady crowded but the line moves quickly- but it can be difficult to actually have somewhere to sit and eat your pizza due to the crowd. But I think many are coming for take-out or pick up orders. With the first bite (Angeleno Grandma style) you can taste the quality difference. I am easy with pizza- I even enjoy frozen pizzas so I'm not too picky. BUT wow, these slices were packed with deep flavors, spices from the pepperoni and meat toppings. I will definitely come back to try more of their Motorhead (Detroit) Deep dish pizza. I'm originally from that area, who would've thought our pizza would someday become semi viral food trend?! I never gave that much thought to the square pizza I ate as a child! But it was nowhere close to the level of taste here!

Finally made it in to try Ventura's Slice House! Came in knowing they have barely opened and employees are still training and getting service up to standard but super hopeful for a great experience. Came in for early Sunday dinner and of course it's busy. A lot of team members working to get pizzas out correctly and efficiently. We ourselves experienced quality service. Overall team members are still being trained and the workflow is still in the process in finding its groove but great customer service all around when ordering and receiving the food. We got ourselves the daily slice special. Which was the Rosa and Combo Americano. The Grandma style Rosa slices were amazing. The crispy cheesy crust gave it so much flavor and texture and the marinara sauce was packed with flavor and the pepperonis were crispy and flavorful. You have to get yourselves the Hot honey and Ranch it's definitely elevated the flavors. The Combo Americano was good (New York style) floppy but super good! My wife isn't a huge pizza fan but the Slice House has changed her mind! Don't skip on the cannolis! Super creamy filling and tasty chocolate chips and pistachios. I don't recommend the Spumoni ice cream unless you're already familiar with it. It's my favorite ice cream and super happy to have it available here! There's plenty of booths and tables to sit inside and outside but it does get busy esp during happy hour. There's tvs inside for entertainment. We spent about $68 for 5 slices of pizza, 1 medium drink, 2 cannolis and 1 serving of ice cream. It's on the pricey side but it's worth it. Excited to come back and try their other pizza options, pasta, salad, wings and more.

Pizzas good and fairly quick service . However I was told I got a slice on the house . Then as I was grabbing my order they told me I had to pay . So confused . I don't mind paying for what I ordered just don't lie to me .

New pizzeria in town, located in Montalvo Square. I've been here twice and both times I was impressed by the pizza. I've tried the Angeleno, Motorhead and Cheese pizza. All were delicious! I love the different crust options, my favorite so far is the Detroit style crust. The thick focaccia crust is perfect for the bread lover. The staff are friendly and welcoming. At times one will walk around checking on people. This is now my new favorite pizzeria!

I have not eaten pork or beef 50 years, till I visited slice house in Ventura today. I ordered a medium cheese with extra red sauce. As I finished my pizza I looked down and the remains of what I can only guess was the remains of pepperoni or ham on the pie tin. Did I eat part of a pepperoni or ham, I can only assume so. WTF. Can't I trust an "award winning" pizza place to complete my order as requested.

Talk about value! How is Slice able to do this??? $11.50 for a slice, salad and drink! Like what? And when I say slice it's more like 3 slices in one they are absolutely massive! The rotating slice of the day and options are awesome. You can also order whole pies in any style with any assortment of their toppings totally customizing it to your desire! The quality you get is hands down top tier. Can't wait to make another trip to try some more of their creations

I try not to leave negative reviews, but I was sorely disappointed with my experience at Slice House. A friend mentioned they had Detroit-style pizza, and as a Detroit native, I obviously had to give it a try. It had a lot of the qualities of true Detroit-style pizza, but something was just a little off. The Wisconsin cheese and little pepperonis were perfect, but overall it didn't quite hit the mark. (The two stars were earned solely for the Wisconsin Cheese and Pepperonis) In hindsight, we probably should have just gotten one slice each, but they didn't have the flavor we wanted available as Detroit-style by the slice. We were also offered ranch in two sizes and were told our slices wouldn't fit in the smaller cups, so we upgraded. The cashier even made hand gestures showing us approximately how big the larger size was supposed to be, but what we received was nowhere near what was indicated. What really bothered me, though, happened at the end. I went back up and ordered two cookies from the plate of cookies on display. Instead, they handed us two much smaller cookies from the back. They weren't the same as the ones being displayed, and they basically crumbled apart. By that point, I genuinely felt ripped off. We also waited quite a while for our food, which gave us plenty of time to observe what was happening in the restaurant. During that time, another customer was visibly upset because they had apparently called the store repeatedly and no one had answered. I didn't read the reviews before coming in, and after looking at them afterward, I'm honestly surprised by some of the hype. Maybe California has just conditioned people to accept subpar pizza choices when Topper's somehow gets treated like the gold standard. If you want a 10/10 Detroit-style pizza experience in Southern California, go to Detroit Pizza Depot in Hollywood. Those guys will wow you. Slice House, take notes: North Beach San Francisco doesn't know Detroit pizza. With love, A Detroit Native

    Purple Potato Pizza (Sicilian Style)

Yum! I just tried the "Sicilian" purple potato pizza... wow! That was delicious! The Sicilian is the best dough, and my personal favorite style of pizza. It's a fluffy focaccia bread that makes any of the pizzas delicious. I highly recommend "Sicilian" style pizza . I'll get this many more times and try this style with the other pizzas. I also tried the three meatballs. Very tasty, tasty marinara sauce as well . I also recommend this, and will probably get again. I tried the spumoni ice cream (Spumoni is Cherry, Chocolate, Pistachio with pistachio nuts in the ice cream and maraschino cherry pieces in the cherry ice cream) . Very tasty and refreshing ice cream! It's unique, and tasty! Definitely will get again. However, I've tried the "New York" style pizzas previous times, and I don't think it's good, will not recommend it. Too oily, the dough doesn't taste good (in my opinion) . Altogether, I recommend "Slice House" to everyone! It's fun to try new things, and see what all these different pizzas are like. The people working there are fantastic! Wonderful staff! Everyone is great! Give it a try next time you're around. Head on over to Nothing Bundt Cakes after for a tasty cake lol .

This place just opened a few days ago so it was very busy during lunch. Even with being so, the staff did a great job communicating and making sure the line kept moving with great service in the process. There's not a lot of seating inside but I still managed to find a seat. I ordered the Sweet Gino (not big on sweet but I dont eat meat and that was the only option for the day besides cheese) but It was delicious. Especially with adding their spicy oil. I work down the street so I will definitely be adding this spot to my lunch rotations. Looking forward to trying different items.

Ventura needed this kind of pizza. I love Detroit style pizza and they have so many different styles to choose from. We tried bbq chicken, hot honey & pepperoni Slices are huge & filling. Coming back to try more.

Being from NJ I couldn't wait to try the new Slice house by TG. He's a legend in SF and if any of you have ever stood in line at his North Beach restaurant you know. I've always said it's as close to a real NY slice as you can get. I get one anytime I'm in the city which is now very rare due to it being such a s&@t hole. But this new idea Tony had is a great one. If folks refuse to go into SF then bring the pie to the people. And boy did he ever. Crispy everywhere! Love it. Will be back a lot! Oh, and the crazy large selection of grandma pies, Sicilian and even Detroit style. Fagettaboudit.

10/10. If looking for a real authentic piece of pizza. Being from NYC I know a good slice of pizza & I'm not a pizza person. So many options so many styles. I use to drive to the TO location but thankful they opened one 5 minutes from home. Today was the grand opening service was quick even though they had a line. Very home like atmosphere. I recommend grandma style sweet Gino and Angeleno. Everyone was very nice and helpful.

Go NOW and get a slice…read more Now for the review. I'm a new resident of Ventura and my current quest is to find a bass player for my band, Savassa. (It's new so you won't find it.) On my morning walks I chanced upon a coffee shop/wine and beer bar (interesting business model) called Sips as I walked to the gym and engaged the barista, Destiny, in a lively conversation. She recommended that I talk to Travis, who is the owner of Backbench Pizza citing her belief that he was plugged into the metal/Rock scene here in Ventura. Mental note added. Today, after stopping at Sans Souci (aka "the sewer", "the sewer is my church", etc...) to seek to network in my quest to find a 4/5 string bass master, the most pleasant bartender, Moriah, walked me out of the bar and pointed out that Backbench was "right there". I didn't see it at first, even though I was standing almost right in front of it, but Google said I was on top of it. Luckily I was able to locate it by simply walking in the direction of the soft blue moving triangular projection provided by our corporate overlords. I asked for Travis at the counter, assuring the counter service that he was not in trouble. (side bar: the same woman who was working the counter was someone I had briefly met in Sips and I took note, at the time, that she had an actual physical book, as if to read in public, but I digress). Travis appeared and after establishing rapport, filled me in on various resources that might satisfy my musical needs. I must confess that the operation is stark in terms of design but WHO CARES when you have the best pizza on the west coast? I purchased a fresh slice of pepperoni, mostly out of politeness, but quickly expanded my field of perception to note the books on fermentation and making sourdough lying casually on a shelf behind the register. One does well to notice the details. Suddenly, I had the distinct spiritual sense to recognize that what I was about to eat was going to be worth breaking my rigid "macro-nutrient" diet. I will not describe the taste/texture/quality here. It is one of those things that must be experienced. Truly a masterful pizza executed by someone who has a zeal for all things food, especially pizza. My compliments, sir.

First off, they have an old school salad. It's sadly not unlimited, but for $8.20, you can get a regular salad bar bowl (1 bowl, 1 trip). The salad bar was slaying - it was well maintained and offered every imaginable topping. Perfect salad bar if I've ever seen one. We also started with the chips and onion dip ($6.15). They use freshly made potato chips and serve it with a house-made caramelized onion dip. The dip is so light in texture and pairs perfectly with the crispy potato chips. It's the type of dip you'd like to meet during football season. For pizza, we ordered a Hawaiian Heat ($25.55 for a medium). Unlike other Hawaiian renditions we've eaten before, the base of this pizza is a creamy garlic sauce. It's then topped with Canadian style bacon, chicken in bbq sauce, bacon pieces, red onions, pineapples & jalapeños. This pizza is topping heavy and I am absolutely here for it. The crust has a nice chew which I really enjoyed. The Toppers Hawaiian Heat is very much a Hawaiian pizza on steroids. I can see why people love Toppers. I had an incredibly fun dinner for my last night in Ventura's. Highly recommend checking Toppers out if you happen to be in the area.

If you're like me and have walked past this restaurant time after time, maybe this reel will finally convince you to stop in and give them some love. We wandered in for dinner craving some good Italian food, and the menu immediately had us intrigued. Plus, with that giant wood fired pizza oven right when you walk in, we knew we were in for a treat. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, and the vibe is very laid back and casual with plenty of seating options. You order at the counter, but then your food is brought right to your table. Casual but efficient! First note: GET THE LEMONADES. Their homemade strawberry lemonade and lime basil lemonade were both SO good. Honestly, I'd happily choose one of these over a cocktail. For dinner, we split a solid, no frills Caesar salad and got a pizza and pasta to share. While MidiCi is obviously known for their pizzas, I have to say...the pasta was actually the star for me. We absolutely DEVOURED the vodka sauce pasta. It wasn't necessarily the traditional spicy vodka pasta I've had at other spots, but it was delicious and ended up being our favorite main dish of the night. The pizza was just so so, so not sure we'd dig into pizza again but thankfully the salad and pasta was super super good! The menu here is HUGE so there are plenty of options whether you're craving pizza, pasta, salad, a sweet treat, or something in between. My family and I were visiting the area to check out the mission in downtown. We wanted a simple and…read morelaid-back place to get a bite to eat being that we had our 3 year old us. After a quick check on yelp, this place came highly recommended. I was a little bit worried when I arrived. We were the only people in the entire restaurant. My wife and I were seated quickly. I did appreciate that the menu was not overly complicated. It made it easy to make our selections. They also did offer happy hour specials during the week. I opted for the double Smashburger and fries. The Smashburger comes with their signature sauce, which you can order at a few different spice levels. The girl at the counter said that normally people go with the regular spice level so I opted for that. When my burger and fries arrived, I was quite surprised at the portion sizes. My basket was filled with french fries and my burger was pleasantly large. In regards to the flavor I do have to say this was probably one of the best tasting burgers I have ever had. I didn't want to note that they do use sweet pickles on their burgers here. But it just works with the flavor that they're going for. My wife ordered the "my girlfriend is not hungry" sampler platter. This came with fries, onion rings, pretzel bites chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks. Everything was great tasting. Their onion rings were cooked to absolute perfection. The restaurant itself on the inside is a little bit small so I could imagine on days that they are busy. It might get a little bit cramped. I did also wanna mention that I did like that. They had a changing table in the restroom. That was a nice touch that you honestly do not see at a lot of restaurants even the mainstream ones.

We ordered the pretzel balls. They were good, but they needed more salt. We also ordered the Philly cheesesteak, OMG! I am a Philly cheesesteak connoisseur and it had this wonderful cheesy hatch sauce. This is my very favorite new Philly cheesecake place out here because there's not a lot of places we can go. We also got the sliders. The sliders had a really nice bun. It came with a smash burger Patty, it has wonderful, caramelized, onions, and sliced pickles. It was a very nice combination and they have the yummy thousand island dressing on there similar to In-N-Out. Derick was are server and was doing awesome, especially considering he was alone on a crazy busy day. The food was great, atmosphere decent. We will be back! I was so glad it was better than my expectations!

I'm from Ventura, so I've tried quite a few pizza places around here, and this place is definitely…read moreone of my favorites. The food was excellent, the service was great, and the ambiance was welcoming and comfortable. The pizza was fresh, flavorful, and had great quality from the crust to the toppings. Honestly, I think it's better than Domino's, Pizza Hut, and Little Caesars. You can really taste the difference compared to the big chain pizza places. Overall, this was easily a 5-star experience. Great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone in Ventura looking for really good pizza. I'll definitely be coming back!

Be careful when using your credit card online!…read more I recently placed an online order where I was asked to provide all of my credit card information, along with my email address. The very next day, I received a text from my bank alerting me that someone was attempting to use my card to purchase Universal Studios tickets under my name. Shortly afterward, I also received an email at the same address I had provided when placing the order, regarding the ticket purchase--which I absolutely did not make. I obviously cannot say that this was related to my order or to the place where I used my card, but the timing is certainly a suspicious coincidence. Just a heads-up to be extra cautious about where you enter your credit card information online. Stay alert and keep an eye on your accounts! BTW, the pizza was not the greatest either.

Meatless and mad…read more Topper's has been my go to pizza place ever since it opened in Ventura. 90% of the time I love the pizza but not tonight. I ordered a medium 1/2 cheese with extra red sauce and 1/2 Veggie, kinda a standard order. Tonight the cheese side was great as usual but the veggie had some type of unknown meat mixed in above the veggies. For many reasons, too many to list I have not eaten meat since 1975. I know the taste of good veggies and deplore the taste of any type of meat. Because there are so many veggies in the pizza I'd have inspect the pizza with a magnifying glass to make sure it's meatless, but should I have to? I took a bite of the veggie and tasted the meat hidden among the veggies and spit it out. No more veggie pizza for me. Come on topper's. Can't you give a loyal customer what they order? No meat means no meat. You Owen the Ventura County pizza market, you have a good product but BE CARFUL. I'm mid July Ventura gets a slice house pizza place. I know I'm one loyal Toppers customer that will give Slice House a good look.

They have a salad bar here and plenty of seating but since today feels like the first cool day in the past week, I decided to sit out on the patio. I order a lunch size pizza (includes 2 toppings) and a fountain drink. I got a sausage and olive pizza. For size reference, it's the size of a ball cap or a small salad plate. Definitely is a 1 serving pizza but plenty to feel satisfied with. Pizza is as good as the Oxnard harbor location.
