I was visiting Marion, AL for a family reunion this past Memorial's Day weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the hotel's overall appearance. The room I stayed in mirrored the rooms advertised on the website. What you see is what you get. From check-in to check-out the staff was quite friendly and happy to assist with any concerns we had. My mom says she'd do a commercial for them if they'd like, and she wouldn't charge. There wasn't a stench as some hotels have, the rooms are smoke-free. Room service was nice. Breakfast was good, the waffles were great! We had a chance to enjoy the gym and loved it. My family also had an opportunity to enjoy the pool. I look forward to staying here again in the future. The only thing I found to be unsatisfactory was a heap of dust behind the microwave. There was no power on one side of the room so I went to check the plug. The issue was promptly resolved by the hotel. My mother also suggested maybe the hotel should have a mini café for those who are hungry in the evenings and don't want to go out. Another guest would agree as I met him while heating up food downstairs and he asked was there any food served at night. Truly an enjoyable hotel experience! read more

This hotel is okay. My room was nice and clean and roomy. I had an incident which is quite concerning. While standing in front of the closet, putting on a shirt, I heard a noise. I instinctively took a step backward and luckily enough I avoided getting "brained" by the door. The closet door was not in the track at all which I noticed when I got to the room however, I chose not to engage the door at all. The door actually almost fell on me. I reported this to a young lady who "appeared" to be working. She was unable to give me the manager's name....she said she thought it was Jerry something...smh. She mentioned she would let hotel maintenance know but when I came back to my room this evening, the door is still ajar. Also, I find the policy of only cleaning rooms if a person is staying longer than three days quite unique. read more

One star is way too much. The room was OK but the management is horrible. Yelling, screaming and cussing at employees.

I would like to thank Sleep Inn for deciding to build a nice, small hotel in the backwoods of Alabama. My daughter found this hotel for our 4 night stay when we traveled to Alabama for the Jubilee and Bridge Crossing. Over the course of our stay the entire staff was so friendly and personable. We went for breakfast every morning and the breakfast attendant kept everything so clean and well stocked. I appreciated that they have real butter for the waffles. No hot sauce or salsa though for the eggs (maybe that's a Texas thing) so I bought a bottle of hot sauce in town. The room has a microwave and mini-fridge. Within close driving/walking distance of the hotel is a Chinese restaurant on top of hill, a Subway, FoodValu grocery store and a Dollar General. There are hardly any street lights so at night it's super mega dark. It's deep in the country. Deep. read more

The first things we saw when we put our bags down was roaches crawling from behind the dresser. The water was rust brown. The pool about was not in use and it was rusted and dark water. Our family had 4 rooms there and everyone had roach problem. We had our do not disturb sign on the door and guess what, they knocked. We told the front desk lady about the roach problem and her response was " we know the exterminator just left" in a very nonchalant manor. read more

This location is in the middle of Alabama, ran by a minority, and has the audacity to be racist. They take advantage of the fact that they know they are the only "okay" hotel in the area. I've been coughing since I left due to the smell coming through the vents. We had multiple rooms and one had to be moved three times because of the mold. Pretty sure they don't clean the floors because it didn't pass the wipe test. All of the ice machines are broken except one. I heard the lady at the front yelling at someone because she was frustrated and instead of trying to rectify the situation. She called her big bad husband to come down and do the same thing, in front of all the customers. 0/5 for the filth and the horrible customer service. read more

This is really the only hotel available in Marion. We were in town for an MMI event. I'm giving three stars because the staff was nice (1 star), the room was clean(2 stars) and the bed was comfy (3 stars). Minus 2 stars because breakfast had many issues and almost everything in this hotel had an "out of order" sign on it! Pics included. Breakfast appeared that stuff was put out at the start of breakfast and then never refreshed. Juice and half of coffee machine were out of order and creamer was expired. The guest book states bottled water is available on every floor. We searched high and low and the only thing we found on the 3rd floor was an out of order ice machine. We went to the vending machine on the first floor and it was out of water. I know repairs are up to someone other than the front desk staff but this hotel needs a lot of machinery fixed and it would go a long way in improving its image. I understand that juggling breakfast can be tough when it's slow but maybe when it is slow they could survey guests at check-in as to when they plan on coming down for breakfast so that they can ensure stuff is fresh?! read more

As the last reviewer mentioned, this place is starting to show a little wear and tear. This is forgivable but our room simply wasn't clean. The photo I included shows a pile of dust bunnies and hair found on the bed skirt and there were lots of places the vacuum missed. In general I felt safe and the bed was comfy but the level of cleanliness ruined the experience for me. We took the bed skirt off and carried it to the front desk per their request. When we lifted the mattress we found hairs and other particles scattered below. Gross gross gross. The room came with free WiFi which worked well and free breakfast which was mostly processed high sugar foods. I guess the downside is that you don't really have many other options in Marion unless you want to drive from Selma or Birmingham. There was a Subway and a food market nearby which was nice. read more

Sleep Inn & Suites Marion - Military Institute - Eww. The top of the bed skirt which had clearly not been washed in awhile. Makes you wonder about other things. - Hotels Near Me - Marion, Alabama

I do not recommend this location. My family and I were very disappointed. We booked seven rooms and every room had problems. Some were no hot water, dirty tub, used towels, very dirty carpet, bugs, and the telephones did not work to call the front desk. For breakfast, they ran out of a lot of food at 7 am. My family and I stayed here when this hotel first opened but never again. Very disappointed. read more

Do not recommend this location at all. I had a horrible experience at this location and was illegally threatened with the police by a worker named Joy. My husband and I went to this location for the rodeo in the town and checked in on Friday night. The person we checked in with told us we could have a late check out, 2pm. The next morning we got to go sitesee and waved at the woman at the front desk, that was Joy. She did NOT say anything to us and didn't tell us there was an issue. About an hour later at 11:30am we got a voicemail from an unknown number and it was her. She told us we had to return immediately and "get our stuff out of the room" when I got back she told us she had locked our room and we couldn't get our things without paying a late fee. We refused! To us it seemed like a scam: the night and day staff were working together to scam us out of money. We repeated to her: "The manager last night told us we had a late checkout". She said he had been fired for "drinking and doing drugs" on the job and the late checkout no longer was possible. To my husband and I we thought the scam theory was accurate and that her telling us the night person was fired because of drugs was possibly, accurate....I told her If she didn't give us our luggage I would call the police. She finally gave us a key to our room but this was a horrible experience. She told US we are now banned but it seems jarring that we could be banned for demonstrating that what happened to us was illegal. Skip this place. read more

Well, this was most likely our last visit to Marion since our girl graduated from MMI this month. All of the times we have stayed we have been satisfied. This last visit, however has revealed some cracks in the facade. I would give 3.5 stars if I could, but 3 is too low. The lack of certain staples in the breakfast room (e.g. milk), and some wear and tear on the rooms and furnishings, plus the somewhat lesser degree of cleanliness were a bit of a bummer. But the staff are all still super-nice and helpful, so that's a plus. Overall, it's still a nice property. If you want a nicer room and a far superior breakfast, and you don't mind a drive from Selma, then stay at the Holiday Inn Express. But if you are wanting to be close to Judson or MMI, then this is a safe bet, just not quite as safe as it used to be... read more

I stayed here on a work trip to the Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee and was so glad that I found this hotel! All others in the area were booked, so it was a bit further from Selma than I would have liked, but the hotel itself was great. Our room was large, clean, and the beds were super comfortable. The breakfast was standard but good. The staff were very helpful and super nice. And best of all, the price was right! I always love a place that includes free wifi and breakfast, too. I would definitely stay here again! read more

Nice, clean, updated hotel at a great price. Front desk staff was friendly and general mgr. kind enough to allow a late checkout since we were attending a special event at Judson College and would need to change afterwards. Good complimentary hot breakfast. read more

This hotel was a welcome sight since there were only 2 choices to stay at before: Selma, and the Gateway Inn which felt less than safe, or clean. The staff at this hotel was kind, courteous, and went above and beyond to fill a need. The room was clean, and comfortable. The only area of disappointment was the breakfast. Other than a few items, everything was gone. read more

We've stayed here a few times. The hotel is clean, safe, reasonably priced, near shopping and dining facilities (although in a small town these are naturally limited), and very near Marion Military Institute and Judson College. What makes it five stars is the excellent staff - they're always friendly and helpful. To my mind, that's much better than staying in a physically perfect hotel with lousy staff. We will definitely stay here again! read more

We were in the area for a visit and were happily surprised! They had friendly staff and clean, quiet rooms! Our room had cable television, refrigerator, microwave, desk, hair dryer, alarm clock, coffee maker, iron and ironing board. There's plenty of parking. We would recommend to others visiting the area. read more
