It's been too long since coming back to Slavko's. Used to work In Pedro in the 90s and I'm happy to say the chicken is just as moist & crispy as it used to be. And those potato nuggets...oh Mama did I miss those babies. So tasty. Ordered an 8 piece w/ nuggets as well as some pork ribs on the side. The ribs were moist but a bit chewy, not their key menu item but still not bad. BBQ sauce was tasty. Prices have gone up since the last time someone posted menu pictures so be aware of that. Service was a little slow but the workers are very polite and helpful. They make sure you have what you need before finishing up your order. There is a small parking lot around back as well as street parking. If you haven't been to San Pedro in a few years, be aware that the traffic plague of L.A. has even spread here. Slavko's has been tired for a looong time, and far from the days of its original glory. We all have seen that rooster outside since we were kids, but it now has no meaning, except being a symbol of this historical place's generational apathy, mismanagement and decay of the business. It's sad to see. The few food offerings are truly awful--typically, deep fried this and that, that starts to harden under archaic heat lamps, with the smell of stale frying oil haunting the air. And the "fresh" poultry --lord knows where it comes from--is SO overpriced, as to be as expensive as Bristol Farms poultry, with far lower quality. The cold cases that should be PROUDLY breaming with clean, fresh, best quality poultry--instead have long been repurposed, or sit empty. When one walks in, he sees the tired, dingy, grime-locked relic of a once proud, Croatian great-grandfather who had a vision and opened his business, maintained it with pride, taught the next generation about their European standards of quality and presentation. All gone now; alive only in the memory of Pedrans ages 40+ . Interesting: how do over priced, bad quality places like this, and like Newer's Office Supply for instance--stay in business so long with such terrible quality and sub-par interiors? Its like urban decay on a micro-level. It's an easy formula: they typically own the building, have been there for a long time, and have been passed down (inherited) to a younger, more apathetic generation with no incentive to maintain the pride, quality, craftsmanship and cleanliness that made the place successful 100 years ago. To our friends at Slavko's: Post covid slavko's is do-or-die: Either revamp, restore and revive the vintage, classic Slavko's and offer excellent poultry and other items at good prices, or post-covid , post-foodie slavko's will close down and become another biz added to the annals of once great places, and a textbook account of shops that fall victim to apathetic urban decay. Hope you can pull through. Walk over to Darko's place on 25/Western to see and witness how it's done, and how to do it well. Take this review not as a criticism, but rather as an opportunity to revamp your shop, menu and quality during the covid crossroads period--as to see Slavko's--the Frelekian's once fine shop--carry on confidently and with lines out the door for another hundred years. read more

Great local joint in San Pedro. Amazing tasting chicken and ribs. When you're looking for some downhome cooking and you really want a really good and affordable local joint this is the place for you! We walked in and the owner immediately started feeding us free samples, I just love that! We got to try the ribs the chicken and the amazing potatoes. We got a sample plate with baked beans ribs, fried chicken and we also ordered some gizzards and definitely the star of the show is the ribs the chicken and the potatoes but I also liked the gizzards. They do need a unsweetened iced tea at the joint in case the owners are reading this lol. I got my chance because I was taking a coworker home so we stopped by. When I went in it wasn't that busy but I didn't feel welcoming. I felt some racial tension. Then they got my order wrong when I was explaining what my friend brought me previously. The owner looked at me like he had issue with African American men that's not from there. Presenting chevapi to crowd in US what was served to me is an insult. Being only restaurant in San Pedro with Croatian background now u should put up much more than old potato and coal instead of chevapi on the plate. I grew up in Pedro, and it's a special place that I love to visit from time to time. I went back and to my amazement it was still standing there. I used to ride my bike with my friends to this place as a kid. They used to give us a small box filled with potatoes. We used to grease up our little hands with these potatoes. Forget Taco Bell,McDonalds or any other fast food chain. We really didn't have them when I grew up in Pedro. This was the spot. The soup was ridiculous with disintegrated chicken and no salt. The potato wedges were over fried. The tri tip was ok but somehow looked like it was there for a long time Basically I think this place has a ton of potential and unfortunately doesn't live up to it. I come here every year for my Thanksgiving Turkey. I like that they offer FRESH turkeys not ones that have been frozen for years like the ones offered in supermarkets. And you can taste the difference it's SO tender and juicy! But it costs big $$$ for that juicy turkey...like around $45.00 for a 20lb turkey! The decor and location of this place leaves A LOT to be desired. The parking is very limited and the parking that they do have is on the street where you have to pay a parking meter. They only offer take out which is a bummer if you just wanted to grab a quick lunch or something. read more

Slavko's is a family owned business that has been an institution in San Pedro since 1922. I've been eating here since the 80's and have never been disappointed! Everything is great here but I can never get enough of the delicious broasted chicken and potato nuggets. I have it at least once a week! Ordering Tip #1: Whatever size potato nuggets you decide on - get the next size up. You will want more! As soon as you walk in you get a friendly greeting and a healthy sample of the broasted chicken and potato nuggets. In addition to the broasted chicken they also have rotisserie chicken and ribs that are excellent. If you want a cold side they have potato salad and pasta salad, both are very tasty. Ordering Tip #2: They have flavorful dipping sauces for the chicken nuggets but I prefer it plain. The full name is Slavko's Harbor Poultry which means they are also a meat market where you can get some of the best fresh poultry and meat around. So next time you are having a bar-b-q this is where you want to get your chicken and meat. FYI... Broasting essentially combines pressure cooking with deep frying. read more

Great Chicken! Great sides, great atmosphere. This place is a must for ORIGINAL broasted chicken. The best and only full service poultry deli in the area. Our only (minor) problem is they aren't always open when we go by. Small, family owned but serving up food better than most places that cost far more. The owners is always nice & welcoming this is my boyfriend's and brothers fav spot to go to for some good food with great prices. One thing that makes me give them only 4 stars is that they are not open at the times it says on Yelp or google. A few times we wanted to go there and they were closed. Slavko's. Memories of my childhood come flooding back whenever I hear the word. Growing up in Pedro, I remember stopping by Slavko's with my dad practically every weekend morning to pick up a bucketful of chicken & potato nuggets to munch on while cruising with the family on my pop's sailboat. There's nothing like being out on the water and enjoying the greasy goodness of chicken & potatoes. This place is excellent at facilitating memories and they have always been fond ones for me. The establishment is a family affair, customer service is top notch, and you can always count on Slavko's at the last minute... perfect accompaniments to potlucks or picnics. Whenever that sack of chicken & potatoes is offered up, I've yet to hear a person say they didn't like it. And even though I wouldn't call myself a broasted or fried chicken specialist, no other chicken has come close to the deliciousness that I've found here. I view it as more of a take-out place, though there are a few tables available. I was glad to hear on my most recent visit that they're expanding, so I'll be looking forward to seeing the ideas they've got brewing for the new addition. Although I hope they don't change too much. I had the much anticipated and hyped Slavko's famous broasted chicken and potato nuggets for dinner last night. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They also seemed to take a goodly amount of pride in their offerings and were generous in providing samples (didn't even have to ask). I tried their Jambalaya and it was just okay. I also tried their potato nugget and it reminded me of Shakey's mojo potatoes, except the nuggets are shaped like cubes. I placed my order and watched as they got to work. It looks like they cook their chicken and potatoes in what looks like a pressurized deep fryer. I patiently waited as they cooked up my order then took the freshly cooked chicken & potatoes to the fam for our dinner feast. The chicken was crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. However, it was remarkably plain tasting and lacked seasoning. Suffice to say we were rather underwhelmed with our chicken, especially after reading all the rave reviews and hearing about this famous chicken around Pedro. Definitely not a do over. read more

After 4 years of living in San Pedro, I'm so glad to have finally tried out Slavko's. Each time my wife and I discussed the possibility, the establishment would be closed that day or the place was being renovated. It seemed like fate was holding us back. Well wait no more, I can now proudly say that I've tried their delicious broasted chicken and potato nuggets. The restaurant isn't in the most tidiest of areas in San Pedro along Pacific Ave. We parked along the street (front entrance), but I believe there is parking available in the back. The establishment itself is quite clean and well furnished. I was impressed how updated and chic the dining area is with comfortable seating and plasmas for your viewing pleasure. The first time, we played it safe and ordered a 6 piece meal with potato nuggets for around $10. The chicken was extremely juicy (even the breast meat). The nuggets were perfect, not overcooked or burnt. Compared to KFC, the chicken at Slavko's is definitely not as greasy. In the future, I'm looking forward to trying some other well-known favorites such as the jambalaya, ribs, and sandwiches. Even though I can't rave enough about the great quality of the food, the service can use more seasoning. The following week I ordered a tray of chicken for my church (60 pieces for $51.50). Don't expect to receive 60 "real" pieces because the establishment will chop up a breast or thigh piece into 2-3 and count them separately. When deciding upon which sides to order and in which size, James was a bit condescending in his tone and seemed impatient as I was contemplating my choices. His demeanor is a bit aloof and abrasive. I wasn't too happy about the way he acted. I asked about dipping sauces, and before I could even finish my question, he flatly stated a dollar something. I was taken aback by his approach.
