We were driving around the area looking at historical sites and got hungry. A quick look on Yelp yielded this gem, and what a fantastic choice! We didn't go to the outdoor part of the brewery, preferring to stay in the air-conditioning. It's got a cute indoor seating area, and was very popular with families and friends alike. The service was really helpful. You order directly at the bar, you wait for your drinks there, and any food is taken out to you. My dad got the cider and really liked it, but I felt that the star of the show was the mango blue raspberry slushy. Honestly, I should've gotten another one because it was super delicious. It was like a superstar of a drink. It was also very popular among all the girls wearing cute summer dresses, who I'm guessing were there for an engagement party or something. Most of my party got burgers, although my mom got the chicken pesto sandwich and said it was great. We all loved our burgers. I got the bacon Gouda burger, which I highly recommend. Can I give this more than five stars? OMGOSH, we LOVE this place! The beer is fantastic! Haven't had anything we have not liked. My recent favorite was a pumpkin cheesecake sour, but the spiked rootbeer is good as some of the others on the menu! We love the seating area...while it's a little loud and echoey, it's very comfortable, especially if you are with a group. They have an lovely outdoor area when it's warm. We've enjoyed the food we have had there....we'd like to try more, but unfortunately the hubby is now gluten free, so we have to stick with what he can have. It's a great place to come on a weekend just to have some fun and enjoy some great brew. Definitely worth the ride! read more

Come for the beer, but don't forget the food! While most breweries sport a rotation of food trucks, Slate offers delicious food from their taproom menu. You really can't go wrong with anything you order, but our visit last week put them over the edge in my book. I ordered the shrimp and corn chowder, which was decadent. Plenty of shrimp, creamy without being heavy, and FRESH. This chowder had not been sitting and getting thick in a crockpot for days, and I could've eaten another bowl easily. My other favorite is the tomato basil grilled cheese. Now that's a GROWN-UP grilled cheese! Tangy tomatoes, rich, gooey cheese and fresh basil, with an aioli that doesn't taste fatty, just full of flavor. My favorite beer is the CoCoa Caliente, which is a dark beer brewed with Mexican hot cocoa, Mexican chiles, and vanilla. Yikes!! So good!!!! This is a brewery, so it's a bit loud inside, but vibrant, lively and pleasant. The service is superb, with lines for beer moving quickly and food delivered right to your table with efficiency and speed. Outdoor space is lovely, with firepits and Adirondack chairs, as well as tents with tables and chairs inside. There's usually live music. Very solid 4 stars. We were staying at a cabin about 15 minutes away this last weekend and some research yielded slate farm as a local place. After a walkabout at Pinnacle Overlook we popped by, stumbling into their Grateful Dead event. We got 1 flight and really liked the sours and the accompanying palette cleanser pale ales. We contemplated getting another flight but couldnt due to demand during the event. That was more than fine. Staff was super friendly and the ambiance was lively. They handle long lines super efficiently. We got a couple crowlers to go. When we're next up this way we'll be back. read more

Great brewery with lots of terrific choices of drinks... and not just beer. They also have ciders and the best slushies in any brewery in the entire county. You can get a flight to try more than one flavor of their massive list of choices. There's also a stand up fridge with non alcoholic beverages as well. They do have a Happy Hour with terrific deals on drinks and snacks. They also have delicious food made in house. We had the Gouda bacon burger - delicious! Also had the meatball sub and that too was tasty. Saw several people chomping on a massive soft pretzel that looked amazing as well. They also sell ice cream from local place (Brooms Bloom). Lots of snack options available for purchase. The service is great and they do a fabulous job with serving you quickly and they are knowledgeable of their offerings. You can get a sample before committing, but I highly recommend the flight option as you can try things you may have never thought to try. There's ample seating inside the main brewery taproom and they have a secondary enclosed room out back. They have a great selection of live music - check their socials for info. There's also a large tent for the warm weather with picnic tables. They do have some games and outdoor seats without shade. The popularity of this place may require them to acquire an additional tent to provide more seating. This is for sure a wonderful place that has excellent options for food and drink. It's nice to have a comfortable space to perch and enjoy the scenery and the company you are with. I had the bacon goida burger. Wife had the Tomato Pesto Grilled Cheese. These were both outstanding on their own. A side of the best onion rings I've ever had and paired with a hazy ipa finished nicely. The wife enjoyed the lemon/lime sour which had a bit of sour to start with a sweet finish. I was so excited to come here today. The vibe here is so cute during the fall season. They have a big indoor area and outdoor as well. They sell pumpkins and flowers as well. You go inside and can order food. It's not that expensive and everything is really good. Mozzarella sticks were so bomb. They have merchandise like shirts and hats. But you can also buy their beer to go as well. They have so many different flavors, and the fall flavors dominate during this time. I tried their slushies, which they say changes every week. First time visitor and this place was a treat! I came for a local plant swap that was held in the heated tent outside,( it's so easy to reserve a place for events)gave a great view of the rolling hills. My flight was hand picked by my server noted in the below pictures and she was so helpful and knowledgeable about the surroundings areas. I'm not a big beer drinker so she suggested the slushies which I saw to be a crowd pleaser tall colorful glasses filled with red and purple drinks. I also enjoyed the coffe mixed with butter beer will get again for sure. I also wanted to try something I saw no one else ordering the boom boom shrimp. I was expecting something different 12 fried shrimp on a bed of fries with a bit of sauce drizzled on the top nothing too special, I do want to try more of the menu that consisted of jumbo mozzarella sticks, grilled cheeses, and more. They have a well stocked condiment station with something for everyone. Soon as you enter Slate the taps are to your right. Lesson learned, the line for ordering isn't by the door. Once I figured out logistics for ordering the folks behind the taps were pleasant and helpful. They allowed for sampling and offered advice. Today was Sunday and we missed live music events which are on Saturdays. Great venue and from Rt 136 you don't get the appreciation. Great Fries but the drinks were wonderful. What's a farm brewery? I only just found out myself, and dang son, let me fill you in. I spent most of my childhood in the Pylesville/Whiteford area. Now 41, and having left Maryland 15 years ago, my chief memories from that time were that North Harford County was always so unchanging and boring. It's always been a quiet area with a little more of a rural, home-and-hearth kind of vibe. Never that much to do. I was back in town for a funeral and wanted to drown my sorrows; my brothers, sensing my vulnerability, suggested Slate for a nice night out. We pulled up to a generous parking lot, looking up at multiple structures in a spot that, long ago, was probably a lame-ass cornfield or something. The brewery is kind of a complex, honestly. The main tap room is spacious and friendly. There was a better-than-average guitar duo getting in touch with their inner Springsteens. We ordered and made our way to the back tent, also heated on a cold night. So, the beer: I had (1) the Kiss Me stout, a nice clean Irish that's a little less dry than say, Guinness (2) the Scally, a crisp Irish red - this style is undersold these days and this is a very lovely example. (3) the Scott's Swagger Kolsch - this one is super clean; I had this with a very competent burger. We spent maybe three hours there. Slate would fit solidly into any other hyper-hip beer market of the southeast (say, Asheville or whatever). The beer recipes are really solid, without a shred of irritating hipster pretense. I went to the brewery on Saturday to see a band. The brewery was very clean and everyone was very welcoming. I got a flight and told the girl waiting on me what flavors I like and she picked 5 great beers for me to try. I had probably the best chicken tenders ever, very moist and tender, delicious. Some friends from Maryland invited us to Slate Farm and we had a great time. The place is pretty big, with lots of seating and different areas. We sat in the one little shed/barn that had a few tables and tv's. This is an amazing locale for cool summer nights. The main tent/pavilion outside the bar had a live band playing and that set a nice mood. I'm not much of a beer drinker but the drinks I had were quite good. I had their strawberry margarita slushie which was perfect. I also had their non-alcoholic butter-beer and that was quite good. I know some breweries do serve normal alcoholic beverages but Slate Farm only serves their lines of beer and alcohol FYI. My only complaint would be that the food probably took around an hour to get to us. It was pretty good and I was happy with it but alas that wait was pretty brutal. The whole facility was packed and they have a pretty small kitchen/trailer that makes the food for the whole place so meals don't get pumped out super quick. I'd be interested to see if they make a permanent addition for food services some day. Overall I liked my experience and I will definitely come back in the future. read more

They have approximately 30 beers on tap which is a lot compared to other breweries. The few beers I tried I definitely enjoyed. They had a small food menu and I only got mozzarella sticks. Nothing fancy but they were good to snack on. The food comes out super quick after you order it at the bar and they give you a table number. After trying a few of the breweries nearby, we began to worry the brew trail in this area was a dud...until we found Slate..really wish we started here and were able to spend more time! A gorgeous layout, with lots of ample seating spaces to choose between (including indoor, outdoor, and under the patio spots). It was a nice relaxing ambiance to settle into; with music playing in the background not too loud, but just loud enough to create a low-key chill vibe. They sell produce, fresh flowers, some small snack kitchen items, but also allow you to bring your own food (actually maybe they don't but nobody asked us to put our food away :x) As for the beer...holy overwhelming! They have approximately 30 diverse beers on tap..and I mean DIVERSE. They created some IPAs and Stout flavors I was pumped to try- listed on a large main chalkboard, side TV scrolling lists, or easy to access on Untapped. Despite the line, the bartenders were very nice about allowing small samples before I committed to a beer-it was so hard to choose because each beer was as good as the last. Ranging from $6-8 a pour, depending on ABV, the prices were super reasonable for the pours. My only woe-the flights were expensive- it is not a set price for a flight, each beer has it's own 'level' and certain levels would add $1-3 to your flight base cost- this means a quality flight of IPAs could get up to $20 for 4-5oz pours, no thank you, I'd rather just have a few pints. Overall, I really hope they host some cool events so we can attend! We're not exactly in the area to frequent them, but they'd be worth a day trip up again! read more

Wide selection of beer- we ordered 2 flights + 2 additional beers and loved all but 3 out of the 12. The food on the truck menu was your average brewery selection but it was all good. It was a steep price to sub chips for fries ($4) but that's the world we live in now. The environment was great with lots of kids running around (all politely!). Worth the trip for sure. Family friendly brewery in northern Har. Co. Slate Farm has a large taproom inside their main building (taproom is not dog friendly) and then a huge outdoor area behind the taproom, with a large portion of it covered and heated (in mid March when I visited) that is dog friendly. Plenty of picnic table seating, but be mindful of no back support. I saw an older couple bring a "stadium seat" attachment that hooks onto the table and gives back support which is great if you plan on spending a few hours here. Plenty of areas for kids to run around and safely play. Additionally there is a great food truck outback (I believe ran and owned by slate as well) with your typical pit beef and chicken sandwiches. Now as far as the beer goes, there was a great selection of sours/gose which I loved! We tried a flight of beer and my favorite was the Azule Agave Lime...had such a good complex flavor, but was also light and refreshing. My friend liked the Lazy River Lager which is a pale lager and had a crisp simple flavor. Both beers were very tasty. We ordered chicken street tacos inside and an employee brought them out to our table for us. They were excellent! Lots of flavorful chicken with onions and fresh cilantro. Been going here since they opened in 2017. Absolutely 5 stars! The variety of craft beers is mind blowing. The service is stellar with friendly and welcoming staff. In addition to the standard brews, they take on seasonal delights which are a must! Dogs are welcome. There's plenty of space to choose from whether indoors or the patio area. It looks like there is plenty of stuff for the little ones to do while mom and dad knock back a few, including giant Jenga and connect 4. Luckily mine are old enough to stay home these days. Also there is live music on the weekends, and they recently expanded their hours to include Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Gorgeous farm views with plenty of parking conveniently located on 136 in Harford County. The only downside is the bathroom sitch...the facilities are portapots that aren't lit, which makes using the facilities after dark precarious at best, especially after a couple of pints read more

This place is great. The building, with garage doors that open to the grounds and fresh air are really neat. It's like a compund, with the main building, a huge outdoor tent, a sports-bar-like building, and food area. It's a good thing too, because usually when we are there the place is packed. So it's definitely a party atmosphere. The beers are great! I'm especially fond of their IPAs, including the 9lb Hammer and Galactic Hammer. They always have something new on tap, and some of my favorites have been their seasonals, like harvest and Octoberfest beers in the fall, shandies in the summer, etc... The service is fast and friendly, although you may need to wait in line at the service bar if they are busy. The only criticism I have is the food, which has been hit and miss for us. The menu is very limited, featuring mostly fried foods and burgers. The chipotle burger is good when it's cooked right, but I think it is too expensive for what you get. There are breweries in the area that have much better food, but not many that have beer this good, so you may have to decide what is more important. read more
