Of all the things to churn out the next do-it-yourself restaurant, I never expected pancakes to be one of them. Slappy Cakes encourages customers to choose a batter in a bottle, pour it over the griddle, sprinkle in a variety of toppings, and cook their pancakes the way they like them.
If you want to make the most out of your time here, I suggest going with friends, family, children--as long as they're someone who can get creative with food. If not, pancakes can get anticlimactic real fast. Some might argue, "Why go all the way to a restaurant to flip pancakes?" I thought the same thing, at first. But when I ate here with a frustrated pancake cook, it was more amusing to watch him make a fool of himself than it was to flip perfectly shaped buttermilk pancakes. Most of our pancakes probably resembled what a koosh ball would look like if it was run over by a truck.
In hindsight, I think you have to be game for making pancakes with weird shapes and experimenting with toppings to really enjoy Slappy Cakes. What you're paying for is the experience of cooking a meal together with the interactiveness of this unique setting. I think, in that aspect, Slappy Cakes achieves what it set out to do. read more
