There's a larger area set apart in the back that looked like it could be booked separately for a larger function up to 100ish people. The interior was pretty traditional with dark wood tables, chairs and brown banquette seating, taupe walls and a mixture of art-deco-style chandeliers and lightbulbs for ceiling lighting. Upon walking inside, a bar is on the right and most of the seating toward the center and left. The waiter for the section I was in was very cordial, did everything very textbook in terms of asking for my drink and food orders, and checking in periodically. Appreciated the effort! To drink I had a beer (forgot exactly which but seem to remember it being something on tap and I enjoyed it. For food I got the Wiener Schnitzel €24 which is a deep friend breaded veal cutlet pounded thin which came over a potato salad; this seemed like a popular item. The serving size was pretty good, the crispness of the breading was just right and the veal wasn't too dry. Though after eating a full dish of this, it felt heavy, kinda needed some greens or other vegetables, and maybe something saucy, to break it up. They take cash and card, and accept reservations. Well yes, and we had a budget so stop opening more when we didn't have many alcohol drinkers (1 star off). Even the wine drinkers were irritated that the staff kept topping off their glasses when they didn't want anymore. Needless to say, our final bill was much more than our initial agreement due to all the alcohol opened and poured without our consent. The food was well-plated and showed creative combinations. I liked most of the combinations. The herring-green beans-tomato-apple salad was my favorite, followed by the elderberry ice cream-white chocolate dessert. I did not like the corn mousse stuffed inside a white chocolate shell; I was confused if it was supposed to be a savory or sweet dish, and the combination tasted weird (1 star off). The cheese course did not need a second dollop of cheese foam on top of the cheese. The deer was too gamey for me, but that could have been a personal preference. Service was good at first, but slowed down and became very inattentive at the end...maybe because we asked them to not open more bottles of wine? So today, we checked out Bieberbau, a Michelin 1-Star restaurant! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set a bit outside of the city center is this gem that genuinely is a bit hidden among some residential neighborhoods. This place is built inside an old studio house that was built at the end of the 1800s. The decor is so cool, laid back and filled with history. The carpet is bright red, the archways are so incredibly detailed and the energy in here was laid back. Service: Like an any Michelin-rated restaurant, the service was EXQUISITE. Beyond good. However, almost everyone has an accent of some kind so you have to really pay attention to when they're explaining things to you. Needless to say, we had no complaints. Food: This is going to be the hardest part for me to explain. Lol. Since I wasn't taking notes on each dish as I was eating them, I can't describe everything to you. What's most important is that the food is TOP TIER. The menu is designed to tell a story of the colder months in Germany, which it does. One thing I do absolutely love about these kind of tasting menus is that when you first sit down to check out the menu, you see 6 courses. But there's almost always extra. Lol. Amuse bouches come out then the pre-desserts after the savory courses conclude. The dinner winds up being like 9 and you're completely stuffed. Value: I mean, look. If you're coming to a place like this, you should know you have to pay to play. However, Bieberbau is willing to work with you. So they have several menus you can choose from and you can choose 3 courses for 86.50€. However, there are MANY more courses you can add to seemingly create your own menu and it's only an addition 12.00€ to do so! So if you're on a date and you get some wine, you can easily come out around 400.00€ at the end, but like I said, this is an experience, a journey in food. Totally worth it. On my recent trip to Germany, Hugos in Berlin was highly recommended to me by a close friend. My experience was phenomenal, from the service and expertise on the food and wine pairings to the views of the city. The restaurant is located at the top of the InterContinental Berlin hotel, serving French and Mediterranean fare in a coursed style experience. You can opt for 4, 6 or 8 courses, and add wine pairings to each of the courses. If you'd prefer, they can prepare a larger portion of some of the courses for just one main entree. We opted for the 8 course with wine pairing. The whole experience took around 3 hours, but we were certainly taking our time and enjoying every bite! With 8 courses I was definitely full, but keep in mind this is much more about art and flavor profiles than it is large portions. If you have any questions they are more than happy to help answer them, and the sommelier explains the wine pairings in as much detail as you prefer. As you can imagine, the menu changes frequently, but I will share what I had in June of 2019. I'd HIGHLY recommend Hugo's for a unique experience you won't forget!
