But they don't stop there, you'll also find hand-made Hebridean furniture, cushions, throws, velvet bags, tin toys, ornaments, jewllery and unusual postcards. The clothing is pricey but beautifully made and unique. Over the Rainbow is open 6 days a week, Monday to Friday. They open at 9am and close around 5pm. In the summer, they are open till early evening/dusk. The Isle of Skye has some unusual shops and this is one not to be missed.

The colors are also amazing and I would call these the most minimal and universal of their work. Prices are reasonable for handmade goods like this, saw many people leaving with a range of souvenirs. In the back are more decorative pieces with landscapes and paintings on the ceramics but I loved the pieces done with only color and glaze experimentation. You can order online and I enjoyed some of the pink hue pieces as well as the "Uig Blue". The store also has some other local made gifts, many of which are unique to Uig. There are small ceramic sculptures and some knits to take home. If you go to the side of the store you can get to a small bay. We went at low-tide and there were all sorts of weird things washed up and decaying. Kids were having fun exploring and loved dragging me over to show me a dead bird.

He is especially good at houses which are somewhat dilapidated and has done a special one for my family of the house we purchased on Skye before and after the renovations. This now has pride of place atop the fire place and is admired by all who visit the house. More recently his wife has become a rather talented photographer and her work is also now on sale in the gallery and is well worth a look, especially of those interested in animal photography. He is somewhat out of the way up there but if you are in Dunvegan then be sure to go and see him and his wife, they are lovely people.

Up for some exploring during the wait, I made my way on foot to the Ullapool Bookshop, which was a relatively short walk away. The interior was cozy with books well displayed. I went with a couple items including a picture and text heavy book on the castles of Scotland/United Kingdom. Prices were good.

The book selection is quite extensive, ranging from history, natural world, satire, self help and fiction. Their fiction section was impressive, their display actually included two books I'm currently reading! Their titles felt new and fresh with a really eclectic range. I could have spent a lot more time and a lot more money there if i weren't trying to be good and we were on a tight schedule. The lady working at the shop was lovely, even making sure we were aware of the parody style of the little Ladybird Book The Hipster. Unfortunately it seems not every one had understood the nature of the books. The accept card payments and she was very accommodating to the four of us taking over shop and browsing. They have a really good selection of art and prints. I found a Bee & Thistle print I had to have, and they even put it in a mailing tube so that I can send it home and not have to carry it around with me. Their gift shop has a great selection of jewelry, souvenirs, and gifts for loved ones back home. Many things you cannot find in the bigger cities here, as they are local made. The cafe in the back has wonderful homemade food. We had soup and toasties (grilled cheese sealed in a pie iron), and the quiche of the day, which were all really good. The desserts will tempt you to take them home with you. Its definitely a nice place to stop while touring the Glencoe valley.
