this is the only music shop in inverness - there is another but this is the one that doesn't…read moreovercharge its customers. there is a good board in the window for musicians wanted and there is a great selection of acoustic and electric guitars. there are also loads of tuition books. one of the best things about the shop is darren the guitar tech. he's a really nice guy who is helpful and often has time for a blether.

It's pointless buying anything at full price in HMV, because you can be guaranteed that within a couple of months the price will be slashed in one of their many, many sales, most of which claim to be their biggest sale ever. There is something for absolutely everyone in HMV, with every type of music and film you can think of, and then some. They also sell some film, TV and music memorabilia, although this tends to be fairly expensive. The staff are extremely knowledgable, however there are pretty much no staff around, except for those working the counter.

magazine and newspaper central on inverness high street. this place has a huge range of magazines…read moreand browsing is great fun for half an hour or so. there are lots of good book offers 2 for 1 sort of thing especially coming to xmas. downstairs is the CD/DVD department along with more books. this is also the place to come for back to school stationery and diaries - especially in january when everything is half price. it is a busy shop and often has a short queue but nothing to worry about

A nice size WHSmith store in the centre of the high street. They have a great range of magazines,…read moregift cards etc. There is a different section for stationery selling famous brands like Parker pens, folders, their own brand of stationery is pretty reasonable too. There is a downstairs section where they sell DVDs, CDs, and a huge range of books. WHSmiths is always my first stop for books and magazines. They get fairly busy but they usually have several members of staff serving. Its a decent size store for Inverness.
