But they don't stop there, you'll also find hand-made Hebridean furniture, cushions, throws, velvet bags, tin toys, ornaments, jewllery and unusual postcards. The clothing is pricey but beautifully made and unique. Over the Rainbow is open 6 days a week, Monday to Friday. They open at 9am and close around 5pm. In the summer, they are open till early evening/dusk. The Isle of Skye has some unusual shops and this is one not to be missed.

When they opened up in 1987 the demand was so high they could not keep up producing, in particular because of drying time of the batiks took several months at Skye. In order to survive and grow they moved and opened up a new facility in Sri Lanka (where the weather also does shorten the time of drying). They currently employ 4 sewers at Skye that produce and design what they sell.

The sales assistant was super helpful and friendly and they have a 'man crèche' with sofas and free coffee if you need a sit down while the other person your with takes 20 minutes to decide on cushion covers. My brothers and I were hoping to find some locally made souvenirs during our trip in Scotland…read more While we were on Skye we came across a booklet of local artists, saw Ellishadder Gallery's page, and decided to drive there en route to a hike we had planned up north. This business is operated out of the artist's beautiful home. She has a studio where she displays her work (pillows, blankets, etc) and the loom she uses to weave these. She also runs a cafe from her home. When we arrived she showed us how the loom works, and my brothers both ordered coffees (and were pleased that she brought out two french presses instead of the instant coffee they'd been getting everywhere else in Scotland). I ended up buying a pillow from her and my brother got a blanket. If you bought something similar in the states the pricing would be very comparable. We stuck around and chatted with Maggie (owner and operator) for awhile. It's a little off the beaten path, we were the only ones there at the time. It was a great stop and I'm really glad we dropped by.

I didn't actually take the…read moreJacobite itself but just the regular Scotrail, which runs the same route without the fancy decor and at a fraction of the cost. The Scotrail's schedule allowed us to photo the Jacobite going over the aquaduct, which we chose over sitting inside the train. I don't usually write reviews of souvenir shops, but make an exception for this one because the lady there was so nice. She was almost like a welcome center agent, answering our questions and trying her best to help us. Which made our short stay a lot more pleasant. Her place also has a lot of cute stuff for sale, including some stuffed toys of the highland cow, plus other delicious snacks and your usual souvenir gifts. Do stop by and check this place out!
