(Long Review) Started looking for an engagement ring at the big box jewelry stores, being shown less than perfect diamonds for extremely too much. I wanted something really nice, but I didn't want to pay the bumped-up profits that the big box stores offered. I turned to Craigslist, where I found ads for Skydell Design, offering great deals for high quality diamonds. When I called, I was transferred to Jordan Skydell, who was very friendly and fabulous to work with. He made it clear that he could work with any budget. (which I though most people would appreciate) He made it very clear that Skydell Design was a family business and that their reputation was everything in the world to him. His actions throughout our transaction represented just that. We worked together to get the most from my budget and I have to say, he did an incredible job. The ring and band, were spectacular, still thousands less than the big box stores. Buying online is super scary, however, he made sure that the transaction, was done right. I gave him my credit card information for a deposit to start creating my rings, however my card was not charged until the next day, showing me that they were not in a rush for my money. Not until the rings were finished, did he call and let me know and only then charged my card for the remaining balance. I almost forgot, Jordan told me, that I could call him at any time. I called him many times, if I got voice mail he called back within minutes. I can't tell you how much this eased my mind. The rings were sent out Fed Ex Overnight, then the impossible happed, the package was lost or stolen. I can't tell you how I felt, terrified that I would not have the engagement ring for our wedding, just a few weeks away. Jordan reassured me that it was going to be ok, that he would make sure that I had my engagement/wedding rings. Long story short, he had new rings created and shipped to me less than a week after we spoke about the Fed Ex problem. We have had a horrific experience with Skydell Designs jewelry. This company offers "wholesale" priced diamonds that are clarity enhanced. They basically have dwindled us out of $10260.00 First of all I would like to state that I have previously managed a diamond store for 5 years. I know diamonds and understand how jewelry is made. I'm a certified gemologist through G.I.A. When I first contacted Skydell Jordan assured me that I would be involved in the creation of the ring every step of the way and would be sent photos and videos every step of the way. He guaranteed that the ring would be in our hands in two weeks. He asked me to pay in full so they could start the process of making the ring. I sent the money. I asked for a 2.12 c eye clean stone because I wanted a big look. I asked for a normal sized shank. And also told Jordan that I would be adding bands to it later. I wanted a platinum head for longevity. I asked if the head would be cast so I could get the look I wanted which was a standard head and was told this was all doable. After an entire week I did not hear from Jordan at all. Not a word. So I reached out to him. He informed me that he hadn't even sent the order to his jeweler. I told him that was OK but if he could not deliver it within the two week timeframe to please let me know because we wanted to get engaged over the holidays and we did have another ring in mind that we could get right away. He assured me that he would get to work on it right away and didn't say why he hadn't already done so. A week later (two weeks out) I reached out to him again and still the ring was not finished however they had started working on it. I had not received any pictures or videos as promised. When it was completed a few days later I was then shown a video and told them OK I think it looks pretty go ahead and send it. You can not tell what a piece will really look like until you see it in person. When we received the ring in I was only allowed to look at it for a few seconds before it was put away so that I could still be surprised at the time of engagement. I could see right away just in those few seconds that the tips of the prongs were unfinished completely. The jeweler basically made a metal tube and bent it over the diamond. The reason this is unacceptable is because it looks terrible and it sits very high which causes snagging. I informed Jordan of this and he said they would fix it and that he understood what I meant about it. I told him we needed to hang onto it until after the holidays because that is when we would become engaged. When my fiancé proposed with the ring we then found out that it was not even made to the size specifications I had ordered it in which was a 6.5. The ring was made in a size 5 and three-quarters! The ring also came with the diamond set into a very rudimentary and ugly looking basket that is set down into the ring which will not allow for me to have any bands added at all. Jordan knew that was my plan and should have relayed that to the jeweler. The jeweler didn't even take time the time to brush out the soldering marks on the head (basket) and I can see globs of sodder on it. I contacted an appraiser to get it insured and came to find out that the paperwork that came with it for certification is likely fake...the registration number on the paperwork is not listed on their website and their representatives can't locate it as a registered diamond. The appraiser also pointed out that the diamond is not the size that the paperwork says it is. It is about 40 points smaller. I pointed all of this out to Jordan three weeks later after the engagement. He said he would fix it all but at this point there is no way on Earth I would trust their business with any of it. These are monumental mistakes and I have paid far too much money for this. I expressed my fiancé's embarrassment over proposing with the ring that wouldn't even go onto my finger and my complete devastation over not being able to wear it at all and all of the problems associated with their work. He will not offer a refund as their policy is seven days even though they made some awful mistakes with this piece. I can't wear it and now my feelings are so bad over it I will have to try to sell it and see if I can get any of our money back on it. I may be able to get 1/3 This business is completely unwilling to rectify this atrocity and Jordan is a quack please do not make the mistake I did in thinking that I would get something at a discount that would be just as good. I didn't. A duck is a duck. As a manager of several businesses in the past I know return rules can be bent especially when the business is the one that messed up. But Jordan will not correct their mistake. They only offer to make what are sure to be more mistakes. Please I'm begging all of you do not create the same problem for yourself. read more

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE... HAVE YOUR DIAMONDS APPREAISED. If I didn't I would NEVER known , I received a 2.05 K color diamond instead of a 2.11 G color. That's a HUGE DIFFERENCE. The merchant will reply to this saying it was a mistake. hmmm was it? Also that he did make it right. Which he did, only after I had my bank reverse the majority of the money and the merchant cut me a check for the difference. read more
