The time of my visit was during Chris Columbus weekend. I took the commuter train in from Newburyport to North Station and then take the T to Broadway and walk all the way there. By the time I got there it was well after 11pm and the door was locked and had a sign that said be back in a few, turned out to be 30 minutes. Had a decent conversation with a local guy that waited with me there saying the gal Mary or something just lived up the street and she'd probably be there real soon. When the lady did show up didn't apologize or anything which is fine, I really wanted to get something from Southie. Which would be made from there and was also Irish. Sadly, nothing there was from the area. Most of the stuff you'd find in most of the Irish stores in the area. The shirts that had Southie on them were very generic. I did find a bin on the floor near the register that had some Irish jerseys and was marked 35 dollars on the front of the bin. I saw a Guinnes soccer jersey and thought okay I'll go with that, ended up being 50 dollars. At this point didn't care anymore and fine.. the money is going to keep it local and all so here ya go. So, it may not have been the greatest experiences I might just ask for a place that is called Southies Own, to sell some local stuff that matches the theme of the store.

The store has a warm, inviting atmosphere with thoughtfully arranged displays that make browsing enjoyable. Every section feels carefully organized, and there is always something interesting to discover whether you are shopping for yourself or looking for a unique gift. The selection is what really makes this shop stand out. There is a great variety of high-quality notebooks, fountain pens, journals, greeting cards, and art supplies, along with plenty of creative desk accessories and small gifts. I especially enjoyed looking through the Japanese stationery and beautifully designed paper goods, which are not the kind of items you typically find in a larger office supply store. The card and wrapping paper selection is also impressive, making it an easy place to stop when you need something a little more thoughtful for a birthday, holiday, or special occasion. One thing I appreciated was how curated everything felt. Instead of being packed with endless products, the store carries a collection that reflects quality and creativity, with a mix of imported stationery, locally made items, and unique gifts. It makes browsing feel more personal, and I found myself noticing details in products that I probably would have overlooked in a larger retailer. The atmosphere adds just as much to the experience. The relaxed setting, friendly staff, and inviting displays make it easy to take your time exploring each section. The Paper Mouse also hosts workshops and creative events, which fit naturally with the store's focus on art, design, and craftsmanship and help make it feel like more than just a place to shop. Overall, The Paper Mouse is one of those neighborhood stores that is worth visiting whether you are a stationery enthusiast or simply looking for a thoughtful gift. The combination of carefully curated products, welcoming atmosphere, and creative spirit makes it a shop I would happily return to whenever I am in the West Newton area.
