SKY is located on the top floor of Steffl, very convenient, a good place to recharge after some hard labored shopping . They mostly crowded due to popularity, the roof top view and hip atmosphere . They serve great selection of cocktails and other drinks, for non-alcoholic drinks I highly recommend to try their various ice tea, super delicious. We were not a big fan of the foods due to following reasons: - beef tartare, a bit chewy, had to spit out, tendons were not removed completely. - fish, fresh and tasty - sky burger, super greasy, flavorful though - fried rice, DON't order it, disgusting, worst I've ever had, rice was hard and flavor was odd. We really enjoyed our time on the rooftop bar. The hostess was kind & accommodating and gave us a nice table with a view without having a reservation. I had a chicken Caesar salad that was delicious and the fried calamari appetizer with a truffle sauce that was unique, but paired well with it. When you're over beer and Aperol spritz, they have a cocktail list that was unique. I had a cocktail called a Lucky Bastard that was amazing. It was strong and flavorful just like I like it. My husband had a Skyberry Sprizz with fruit muddled in it, it seemed. My son had a Limoncello Sprizz that was nice also. Not a problem, we stayed inside, in the restaurant's part because the bar's part is too smoky (allowed to smokers). Don't bother going up there if there has been even a sprinkle of rain. It HAD rained that day, barely, but it wasn't raining, and hadn't rained for awhile, but they would not allow us out on the terrace. On a Friday night! That's the only reason to pay their high prices for cocktails, to be out on the terrace to enjoy the view. €12 for a Cosmo, and no terrace access? Get a better value for your money and go to Der Dachboden at the top of the 25Hours Hotel, it has a great view too and a much more relaxed atmosphere. The value of this place is that it is located right in the middle of the tourist district and has a great view of the city including Stefansdom. I bet it is great in the summer. Last time I was in Vienna my colleague advised us to give it a wide berth. This time we ended up there with a group. Service was very slow and the place was not busy at all but the wine and company kept anyone from noticing. I had the Wiener schnitzel with french fries (the other options weren't appetizing). Better than cafeteria food, the schnitzel was at least done properly. Nothing gourmet or inspired about it so don't expect interesting presentation or a dash or unexpected truffle oil or fleur de sel on the frites, it was very basic. The dessert was some dumplings with an apple sauce. The deep fried dumplings were basically fried batter with a sprinkle of powder sugar (i.e., donut holes) and the apple sauce could have come out of a baby food jar. No spice, nothing interesting other than a sprig of mint which didn't seem to belong. PS - the bar is technically a fumoir and is a blue cloud of cigarette smoke. This is not unusual for Vienna (most of the bars allow smoking). The restaurant is separate from the bar but not arranged to accomodate an after-work cocktail. read more

Our waiter discourages sharing of food and when he brought the wrong order insisted on arguing with us on what we ordered. I won't be back. I don't need arrogance on what is a gorgeous day in Vienna. This place is on a lot of top list to check out in Vienna for the bar scene. Disclaimer however is that it is an indoor smoking bar. Everyone in their is smoking cigarettes or cigars which most Americans are not used to. The drinks were good however and the vibe inside was very European. Went here with a couple of colleagues for dinner a while ago - the restaurant itself is in a great location with views over the city centre and feels very fancy, but the food was decidely average for this type of place - that is to say, well-made, well-presented, fairly innovative but somehow a bit ... uninspired, samey. Overall, it feels like you are paying for the location more than the food - and being on Kaertnerstrasse (i.e. v posh street), the service can be a bit stuffy too. read more

The staff is incredibly rude, they have basic but really overpriced cocktails, and they try to rip off tourists (e.g. coat check is more expensive). If someone won't tell you about Skybar, there's a slight chance you'll miss it. It's on the top level of a department store on Kärtner I can't remember the name of and you access it by taking the elevator in front of it. We went there for dinner and had the immense pleasure of seeing the sun set over Vienna while enjoying our food. Skybar is a little pricey but if you want to eat a really great dinner then it's definitely worth a visit - especially for the view! Oh my God! The view from Skybar was the most fantastic thing I saw during my entire stay in Vienna. The rooftops reminded me of Paris and Stephansdom looked amazing - so did the high-rise buildings by the river. And what about the food? I had an amazing piece of steak - medium rare, with garlic butter on top. It was heaven, I can tell you that. It was served with sauteed baby spinach (which I love) and I ordered a glass of their red house wine (at the price around €3-something). It was good but I would definitely recommend to take a glass of cabernet sauvignon because it costs around €1 more but the difference in taste is huge. My partner-in-crime ordered a hefty salad with chicken and while he enjoyed it we later figured my order - the steak - was a lot better. We also ordered a couple of drinks (whisky sour, strawberry daquiri and another fruity frozen daquiri but I can't remember what it was) and they were really good. Our waiter was a nice guy who earned the restaurant their fourth star from me because he asked no questions and made no remarks when i asked him to give me a new glass of wine because a wasp (!) drowned in mine when I wasn't paying attention. The other guests were mainly middle aged people, a couple of suits and a group of really loud Americans so I'd say it's a fairly mixed group of people who go there. We were there in the beginning of September so I don't know how it looks like during the summer season. We didn't have to make a reservation either and we got a table for four on the terrace. To sum up, I'd say this: the place is great and I'd love to pay it a visit during my next stay in Vienna. It's a bit pricey but the view makes up for it. The waiters are kind, helpful and attentive. I have never been to a more ridiculously pretentious establishment in my life. The snooty hostess who offered our party of three the only seats that were not "reserved" actually had the audacity to try and refuse my girlfriend re-entry to the place after she simply went to the ladies room located outside the club entrance door.The rather dimwitted hostess simply had a bad attitude When my girl asked for her name she refused to give it...this is defiantely a red flag for me. We spoke to the manager, Heinz, who offered an apology and was very professional, but even he refused to supply us with the hostesses name citing a fear of a bad online review. Hmmm... Apart from the dimwitted hostess there is another negative part of our experience, although to be fair it apparently is common here in Europe and not SKY Cafe's fault or se. We are from the USA where we are not subjected to thick cigarette smoke in public indoor areas. The dark corner where we were allowed to sit was full of chain smokers ala 1970's United States bar scene. After we arrived home we realized al of our nice clothes would have to be dry cleaned because they smelled like cigarette smoke. As a person who has watched more than one loved family member spend the last month of their life gasping for air while coughing up a black, gooey substance that used to be their lung tissue, I am surprised that such supposedly "sophisticated" Europeans haven't figured out the obvious ill effects their cigarette smoking has on themselves and the people around them. So between the dimwitted hostess that failed to recognize my lady and attempted to refuse her re-entry to the establishment (my girl doesn't drink alcohol, but was having chamomile tea BTW), the hostess and manager Heinz refusing to simply furnish their patrons with an employee's name, which can only be described as rather odd and a rather futile attempt to and I quote Heinz directly here ..."to prevent a negative on-line review", and the thick blanket of cigarette smoke that enveloped us shortly after our arrival to the club I can say that we won't be returning to SKY Cafe.. the place that advertises the "great views", yet won't let patrons go out on the terrace late at night to actually partake in said "great views". Other reviewer here say the terrace views are not that "great". On a positive note they have great drinks... , but I can make a great drink in my hotel room and for the price of two drinks at this snooty joint can share an entire bottle with friends and have change left over. Folks i am 59 years old and grew up in Fort Lauderdake Florida USA and worked at many smoke filled nightclubs to include Art Stock's Playpen, The Chateau Madrid...even Big Daddy's in my day and i know a club with a "good vibe". IMHO this place is a pretentious waste of time with a rude staff and coat check fees. Nobody dancing, no good music and anonymous employees that think withholding their name after treating you shabbily will prevent exposing their bad behavior. Terrible manners and customer service. We came in around 3 pm and asked to be seated. The hostess which was the manager told us we have to check in our coat before being able to be seated. We told her we didn't want to and wanted to keep it with us and she told us she will not be able to seat us if we don't, meanwhile all the people in the place had their coats with them. She was very rude about it and asked us to step aside to sit other customers. After confronting her about the coat check she let us sit. The waitress took 10 min. To come take our order. I asked her if she could make my drink with a different kind of brand they had other than the house brand, and she said no with an attitude. The food was mediocre looked and tested like ready made food. The drink didn't look or tasted like the one I ordered. Overall I don't recommend this place. But if you want to be treated badly and eat a mediocre food then this is the place for you. I gave it one star just for the view. read more
