Well, I've been here twice now and both times I left with purchases, so I guess they're doing…read moresomething right. Now, I'm not fashion-conscious by any stretch. I was told by a straight coworker that my clothing would do well if I had "Queer Eye for the Gay Guy" to help me. I don't understand why anyone needs more than two pairs of shoes (one black, one brown) or two belts (same colors). And I certainly don't know anything about what constitutes a famous brand and what does not. But I do know what looks good on me, and so did Jed. Jed is the salesman at Mix who helped me with both of my purchases. He took me to the proper section, showed me what they had, helped me to make a selection and gave his opinion when I tried them on. The first time I went there one of the things I purchased was a shirt. I've worn it twice since and each time, I've received compliments on it. The second trip was just recently so I haven't actually worn the jeans out yet, but I've tried them on three times to show them to friends and they all approve. Give this store a try, and ask for Jed. I'm sure the other salesmen are just as nice and competent but I only had Jed, so I can only recommend him. He was awesome.

But there's one guy who smokes a lot...when we arrived, he was smoking outside the store, when we left, he had just walked back into the store, but the smell of cigarette, out in the area where he was smoking was so strong, I started coughing just from the lingering smell and smoke...that was really a let down about our experience.

Though small and with limited inventory, it more than makes up for that by specializing in unique up to date quality fashion carrying such lines as 10Seven, Huntees and others. As you might expect, the clothing is meant for the younger set, say up to mid- thirties something and not for bodies like mine that are more on the order of being oblate spheroid in design.

In the past four years, for some odd reason I always drove by thinking it was a tropical tanning…read moresalon. I was so wrong. Located just outside the main gayborhood drive but on the same street, My Tropx is a store that mostly caters to gay men. Based on the layout and former Tropixxx name, it may have been a major gay adult video haunt back in the day. Nowadays in several rooms the place is stocked to the rafters with swimwear, shorts, shirts, leather harnesses, leather vests, leather jockstraps, leather pants, leather accessories...you get the theme. Plus other fetish lifestyle paraphernalia. I doubt you'll find a larger mens' selection in the area. The staff tend to let you wander about browsing, but are friendly and approachable when you need them. For $129 you can become a Ruby member and get special treatment, special discounts, and I'm not sure what else; however, now I know where to go when I need to get a harness...for a friend haha!

Illusions Boutique is a small boutique store specializing in the sale of drag queen apparel where,…read moreas they say, "You don't just feel like a Queen, but look like one too." Sparing you a lot of the details, I received an invite to a private fundraiser party hosted by drag queens. As it was it was for a good cause and because I'm an "easy Marq" as a financial contributor for such events I would of course attend. But seeing how the hosts were financially sponsoring everything involved, I thought it appropriate to bring them some little token party favor gift in appreciation. But what to get them would be the question, as I have no experience with drag. That is, however, setting aside a long 1962 event when, as a college fraternity pledge, my brothers along with our next door sorority sisters dressed me to arrive as the blind of the interfraternity president in order to make him the humiliated laughing stock of an interfraternity garden party as being stuck with a "blind date from hell." LOL! Anyway, I found Illusions Boutique to be loaded with all sorts of things from dresses to large sized (men's size 12) high heel shoes, wigs, makeup, various drag looking accessories and small gift items. The small gift items I selected were some fragranced rainbow colored soap bars which were custom made not only in gay rainbow colors but in varying select fragrances by a person here in Lauderdale. Overall it turned out to be a very pleasant shopping experience and the store clerk couldn't have been more helpful, charming and polite. So, should you ever find yourself in need of drag queen apparel or such other drag related items, I can highly recommend Illusion Boutique
