I tried the Super Taco, which was large, but despite containing lettuce, onion, tomato, cheese and cilantro, it had no flavor at all. It came with a side of hot sauce, so I dribbled a little on. Be warned -- that stuff is very spicy! There was no middle ground with this dish - it went from bland to burning hot. If I order it again, I'll add my own salsa from home -- but I feel like it should have some flavor without any condiments. I also had a vanilla shake. It started out on the thin side, but I soon consumed the thin portion, and what was left was too thick/icy to move up the straw, so I had to eat the rest with a spoon. After a couple of visits here, I'm not sure what to make of the place. The menu includes gyros and hotdogs as well as a variety of Greek and Mexican dishes. If I return, I'll try a Greek dish, but I don't think it will be soon. read more

Update: No longer good food. The prices went up and the food went down. The fries and onion rings that I ordered looks like they make them in very old oil. There tasted very bad very bitter. We had also a fish sandwich. The fish was very thin and it was so over cooked that was all crispy. Other thing I had was a gyros sandwich and also did not taste good. My parents live near this restaurant. Their menu is actually quite large. Surprisingly, their shrimp meal is very good. Large, actually. I also like their steak sandwich. The hands down favorite for my family is their gyro (which I don't order). To me it also looks very large. I think the prices are reasonable. I was not impressed with anything from this place as these Gyros tasted like totally worse than what's offered at the supermarket. Great start. Just went there for the first time and ordered a Hot Dog with Fries. If you cant get a Chicago Dog right in Chicagoland you shouldn't be in business. They got it right. All the elements were there and everything tasted fresh. The fries were unspectacular as they tasted like they were frozen. Either way I wont ding them too much. I've lived and gone to church in this area since the late 1990's, but for some reason didn't start coming by here until this week. Go figure. The ever popular Pita Inn is across the street, but if you're in for some good ol' fast food, then Skipper's is where it's at! So far I have had their gyros and tacos and I loved them both. I saw the complaint about small gyro for $10, but I disagree, their portions are decent. Gyros were typical, nothing extraordinarily different than what I've had. Meat was tender, pita nice and warm. And tacos? Yes, tacos! I had the el pastor taco so far and it's well seasoned and delicious. That corn tortilla is also done well, and the cilantro and onion toppings are a perfect fit. I've been to Big Star and Antique Taco in the city, and I must say these tacos are pretty spot on, if not better. The staff is friendly, the food comes out quick. The interior is a bit of a "blast from the past", but honestly that made it feel more homey and inviting! And who doesn't love supporting small businesses?! :). Vast menu offering everything from gyros to tacos and pretty much everything in between. I always just get the gyros deluxe. I'm pretty sure all these places get their gyro meat from the same place but there are probably two qualities they can order. One with a bunch of fillers and one without. They use the good kind ( I know cuz I've had the bad kind) and there tomatoes have always been ripe and the onions are sliced by someone with actual knife skills or they use a Mandolin. read more

Skippers: it's okay, I guess. There are a glut of beef joints and hot dog stands in the Chicagoland area (I know, this is the first I'm hearing of it, too!) and Skippers certainly is... part of it. I wouldn't recommend going here if you're looking for a "knock your socks off" experience or if you're trying to impress your out-of-town friends. I would recommend going here if you're starving and everywhere else is closed within a 5 mile radius. We had the gyros, cheese fries, and mozzarella sticks. They were all fine. This is a pretty good local establishment that serves delicious fast food. They have been here for a long while and they have been consistenly serving good food. They have got burgers, gyros, hotdogs, sausage sandwich, chicken and pork sandwiches, tacos, tortas, Grecian chicken and more. The staff was very friendly and the place was very clean. The menu was confusing because in addition to the hot dog stand fare, they also had Greek and Mexican options. The chicken dinner was just a warmed up 1/2 chicken chopped up and served. You could tell it wasn't cooked earlier that day...more like earlier in the week, like last week. It was so DRY! The sub sandwich was another bomb and was served on a stale sub roll. He said his beef was better than Johnnies, he better try it before saying anything bad about one of the best beef joints on the planet. I like supporting the local joints but just can't do that here.
