The location was perfect--quiet, convenient, and an easy drive to some of the best trails in the area. After long days of riding, it was a treat to relax in the beautiful garden, which gave the home such a peaceful and welcoming feel. The house itself was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. What really stood out, though, were the hosts--they were warm, friendly, and made us feel right at home. If you're looking for a place to stay near Salida or Monarch Pass, whether for biking, hiking, or just enjoying the mountains, this is a fantastic choice. We'd love to come back!

The place was so clean, I half expected a cleaning fairy to waltz in and curtsy. The furniture and beds? Comfier than a post-Thanksgiving nap. Pillows? Fluffier than a baby alpaca. And those clear plastic boxes for extra bedding? Pure organizational wizardry. Marie Kondo would weep. Cozy blankets made me consider quitting my job and becoming a professional blanket burrito. Pet friendly too--complete with poop bags and couch covers so my dog could live her best life and I didn't have to wrestle her off the sofa like a WWE match. The smoking station on the back porch? Genius. Keeps butts out of nature while still letting smokers feel fancy. The kitchen? Huge table, solid chairs, and a crockpot that made me feel like I'd been transported to a cooking show. Quality pots and pans for days, but only four coffee mugs. FOUR. For a whole chalet. Are we hosting an exclusive espresso club? And one dish towel? My sponge practically filed a complaint. Here's the kicker: it snowed overnight the first night, and by the time we came back from skiing, the walkway was shoveled and the hot tub lid was cleared off like some magical snow-removal ninja had swung by. Honestly, it felt like Santa was moonlighting as chalet maintenance. We did lose heat the first night for a few hours, which gave us an unexpected "polar survival" experience, but those thick duvets were life-savers. Overall, 10/10. Already plotting how to make this my permanent address.

The cabin itself is a historic one that was moved to this location, that being said it is both incredibly cute and quirky. The log cabin itself felt cozy and rustic. The hot springs pool in the back was amazing and relaxing. It was clean, clear and warm the entire time we were there (they do give you a hose to cool it down as needed). I found it private. Now, that does not mean there is nobody around. The other cabin (Hortense) is nearby and you can see houses up on the mountains behind the house (plus a few more in the valley). We heard a couple voices from Hortense (nothing loud) and we did briefly see the dogs people mentioned (although it was like a quick run through the yard when we were eating lunch inside). We did not have a problem with privacy or noise - it was all peaceful. The cabin has a nice living room upstairs (and a bedroom with 2 twins we did not use). They also have a variety of board games and cards (which we definitely used). Downstairs is the queen bedroom, the kitchen (with stove, micro, dishwasher, fridge and all you need) and a very, very, very tiny bathroom with a sink, toilet and shower. It is a very old cabin and the floors are a bit slanted. I didn't think it was that bad, although around the bathroom a lot of different flooring met and there was some unevenness. The bathroom is the only thing I did not care for. It was impossibly small. Showering in that stall was downright claustrophobic. It wouldn't stop me from renting again, but it was what I took a star off for. Still, overall it was a wonderful stay. No TVs, just wi-fi. Plenty of beautiful views, hot springs and and awesome relaxing can be found here. It is also literally just down the street from Mt. Princeton. Love it!

They appear to have been quaint at one time but they are not now. First, these cabins are not remote at all. They are located right next to each other and there is a house on the hill overlooking two of them. We could hear the people next to us talking while they were in the back of their cabin, and I'm sure that they could hear us. There really isn't much privacy. The hot springs fed hot tub was nice but it was not clean. Supposedly, the tubs are drained and cleaned after every guest stay. I highly doubt that ours was drained let alone cleaned. I spent the first 30 minutes skimming out leaves and debris from the surrounding trees and plants. The cabins are rustic. They are definitely not luxurious. The shower is very small and basic. It is so small and dirty that you will be thinking: "why bother?" Ours had mold in the grout. BTW, it takes almost 10 minutes for the water to get hot. I could give some more specifics but if you've read this far, I think you get the idea. If you're not concerned about having a lot of privacy and cleanliness etc, these may be worth a visit...but I think for the price, you can do a lot better. One more thing: there is a review on Yelp or Google about the owner's dogs bothering some guests. When my friend, who booked our stay, inquired about it, the owner or an employee named Jessica replied in a way as to suggest that there was no problem. However, when we got into the cabin and read some of the many signs and rules, one mentioned that if loose dogs come near the cabin to not feed them or let them into the cabin. It described the dogs as being "valley dogs." I suspect that they are the owners dogs. I could hear dogs barking in the residence on the property. They didn't bother us at all but it made me suspect that the owners are not being forthright about the issue that had been reported in the review.

Are changes about Health benefits we come for? Are they for the People? The Cleanliness of the waters? Available to constant use of locals? Do they remember who has supported CHS through the years? Are they continuing what made it a great place for all? Are they considering its' history? * My stay was really delightful! Their employees are the best, from front desk to the pool man who is the most important one... the water keeper. They are learning! I am reminding them to think of their client base and not to forget us as they make changes in soaking and room rates. Tourists come and go...locals use the health benefits and come often if it is reasonably priced. Only one negative, I am very, very disappointed the low cost dorm areas are gone now. For those of us that travel here they were a hidden gem. Why were they not advertised for more usage? The previous owner made sure the property and waters were available to all, and that cost would not keep people from the healthy, sacred benefits found here. *I adore CHS and will expect it to get better and better as needed improvements are made. I will have to come less often due to prices, however I am staying positive as this beautiful place is a gift to us from the earth and extremely important to me. Let's take care of it, support it, and give positive feedback. Thank you, blessed caretakers of this place of peace, beauty and health. Brenda Helms
