Fireweed are those magenta blooms along the drive to and from Denali during the mid-summer months but unlike rose or lavender, fireweed tastes more like berries than floral. We had Talkeetna on our itinerary and saw Kahiltna Birchworks, where the Alaska Gold Caramels came from. Score! We arrived when they opened but had to wait about 1 hour until their tour starts. We wanted to do the tour because we were very curious about birch syrup and how it differs from maple syrup. We found it informative and enjoyed it. We bought a big bag of Alaska Gold Caramels, and some carry on friendly birch syrup. All a big hit back at home. I highly recommend the Alaska Gold Caramels!
