There are, somewhat unusually, 3 menus to look at, the first being the general Cantonese menu, familiar to fans of take aways and restaurants throughout the land. The second menu lists the more unusual Sichuan dishes, usually characterised by the liberal use of both chillies and the famously fiery and numbing Sichuan peppercorns. This menu contained more authentic regional cooking with hot pots and more esoteric ingredients such as various offal based dishes. The Sichuan menu provided our group with beautifully cooked and intensely flavoured dishes. There was also a small typed Specials menu from which I chose Home Made Prawn Balls in Soup. When ordering I was warned that it was spicy and asked the heat to be toned down. The gigantic soup bowl came loaded with deliciously light prawn balls in a savoury soup that had obviously been made from a very fine home made stock. It also came loaded with a good couple of handfuls of dried and fresh chillies. In the event it was relatively easy to skim off the chillies and what was left was one of the most memorable Chinese dishes I have had. Absolutely stunning, incredibly good value for money and with a pleasant friendly atmosphere. This place is apparently very popular with Chinese students in term time, so be be prepared for a wait or take advantage of the summer and try it now. Highly recommended!
