Visiting Swansea and popped into the quite unprepossessing looking Sichuan Savour on the…read morerecommendation of our hosts. The welcome was warm and genuine in what is at first glance essentially a local Chinese Takeaway with tables. There are, somewhat unusually, 3 menus to look at, the first being the general Cantonese menu, familiar to fans of take aways and restaurants throughout the land. The second menu lists the more unusual Sichuan dishes, usually characterised by the liberal use of both chillies and the famously fiery and numbing Sichuan peppercorns. This menu contained more authentic regional cooking with hot pots and more esoteric ingredients such as various offal based dishes. The Sichuan menu provided our group with beautifully cooked and intensely flavoured dishes. There was also a small typed Specials menu from which I chose Home Made Prawn Balls in Soup. When ordering I was warned that it was spicy and asked the heat to be toned down. The gigantic soup bowl came loaded with deliciously light prawn balls in a savoury soup that had obviously been made from a very fine home made stock. It also came loaded with a good couple of handfuls of dried and fresh chillies. In the event it was relatively easy to skim off the chillies and what was left was one of the most memorable Chinese dishes I have had. Absolutely stunning, incredibly good value for money and with a pleasant friendly atmosphere. This place is apparently very popular with Chinese students in term time, so be be prepared for a wait or take advantage of the summer and try it now. Highly recommended!

The girl behind the counter was very nice, especially when some drunk people wandered in... one of them being someone I was with. The boy ordered the Crispy Aromatic Duck and Singapore Noodles. I ordered the Lemon Chicken and steamed rice (I mean boiled rice). I was surprised at how fast the food was ready, but everything was nice and hot and even stayed that way when we went across the street for a quick drink. The duck was fantastic! It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Forget the pancakes, hoisin sauce, cucumber, and green onions, even though it comes with the duck... I had trouble being patient, so I just devoured the duck. Wasn't keen on the Singapore Noodles, but then again I'm not a fan of curry and I could taste it all over the noodles. The Lemon Chicken was ok, wasn't a fan of the way the chicken was done, but the lemon sauce was very good and there were pineapple chunks at the bottom. I have never experienced that, it was different, but not in a bad way, although it did confuse me a bit. The rice was ok, then again once you get used to steamed Jasmine rice, it is difficult to have anything else. Not to mention if you don't use nice water it picks up all the flavour of the water as well. Overall, the meal was pretty good... the extra star was really for the duck. The duck kids, have the duck. You won't be disappointed.

NOTES: ~ This review is based on my experience on a Saturday night, so it was relatively busy. Ambiance: This place is really clean and fancy. It could get pretty crowded so I recommend calling ahead to make a reservation if need be (for large parties). Thankfully, I only had a party of 2 so it was pretty easy to accommodate and needed to wait only about 15 minutes or so. On the inside, with all the glitz and glamour, Cosmo is definitely made for a special night out to treat yourself every now and again. Customer Service: From what I've seen, before you go in while you're still in the queue, they could get a bit short with you and impatient. However once you finally sit down, the staff is attentive and respectful. I guess just grit your teeth through the service until you finally get in? Food: This is why I love Cosmo. It goes for a pan-Asian Fusion experience with cuisine from all around the world - Chinese, Indian, etc. I'm a huge fan because I've been seriously lacking authentic non-Chop Suey Chinese food in Swansea and Cosmo definitely delivers. My recommendations: ~ Potstickers. They're little nuggets of meat wrapped in flour and pan-fried. Delicious and juicy on the inside. The chef here does some of the best potstickers I've had! ~ Duck w/ Pancakes. Get it with Hoisin Sauce (a brown slightly sweet thick sauce), cucumber, and wrap it all up in a pancake. Delicious! ~ They make really really good battered chicken on a stick. ~ The queue for large dishes such as the lobster, salmon, etc takes a VERY long time so it depends whether or not you want to go. It's really well made though and fresh. ~ Get the dim sum. They're in round wooden containers and the custard buns are delicious. I'd definitely come here again.

There was a wide selection of Indian and Chinese food to choose from, I assume there is more of a selection in the evening too. The food wasn't 5/5 but it was definitely what I'd expect when I'm paying £6.50. The drinks are quite expensive, however beer is at a relatively normal price which is a positive! Overall I'd come here again, in fact I look forward to it and trying out the other options they have.

Since it was a super windy day, I decided to celebrate Chinese New Year staying in instead; a lot of my usual favourites weren't open since CNY is as big as Christmas in the West, so decided to try Dragon Court. From the look of their menu, it was decently authentic and I refused to celebrate CNY with Westernised Chinese food. All in all, I was incredibly pleased with my meal! Mind, their delivery menu is not as vast as their in-restaurant one, no idea why. However, there's still a relatively decent selection to enjoy! Highlights: ~ Yangzhou Fried Rice -- This is my favourite type of fried rice and Dragon Court definitely did it well. Perfectly cooked and just the right amount of flavour! ~ String Beans -- I adore Chinese string beans. If you don't like them normally, I highly recommend giving it a try Chinese-style, it's absolutely perfect! Went very well with the fried rice. ~ Potstickers -- No juice inside, but really plump and delicious! I would definitely order them again. ~ Ha Gao -- Shrimp dumplings with a rice wrapping, my favourite type of dim sum and Dragon Court definitely did them well. --- If you've read my reviews before, you know that I'm really picky when it comes to delicious authentic Chinese food. I give Dragon Court my stamp of approval - they certainly delivered on the goods! **BONUS: Kudos to the man who delivered to us fighting the heavy winds to get to our doorstep!

Service is usually good with a majority of Chinese-English bilingilual staff. Highlights: The egg custard buns with the liquid centre! Also the usual dim sum fare; har kau, siu mai are good. The three roast rice is a personal favourite. Tips: You can ask for a bigger teapot if you have a large party and don't want to ask to refil it constantly. Edit: The chef has since changed, and food/ quality of service has been inconsistent, bit i still maintain that its my favourite place for dimsum in Cardiff.
