Visited here on a Friday night, understandably one of their busier nights of the week. My best friend had advised me to book a table for this reason and I did so online, it was confirmed on the website and I left it at that - this was about 2-3 days before.
Fast forward to Friday, we arrived to a huge crowd outside and a lady with a clipboard asking if we had a reservation. I said yes and we were told to join the queue inside. The thing with Cosmo is, you pay before you go down to the restaurant. This takes some time, especially if there's loads of you and so we were queueing for a good 15 minutes before we made it to the front. I said we'd booked, was asked for my name and then silence. Apparently there was no record. I said I'd done it online 2 days ago. This was resolved quite quickly, we paid and went downstairs to be met with...another queue. We were second in line when a man with a clipboard came up and asked if we'd booked, when I said yes and gave my name he, a little aggressively, told me that we weren't on the list. I said we'd just gone through this upstairs, which he apparenty knew about. When I said I'd booked online, he pretty much insinuated that the website is a sham site. Which was reassuring.
Anyway, onto the food. What a choice. There's everything you could imagine under one roof. Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Thai etc...you can order drinks at the table or at the bar, but be warned if you do order at the table, you are expected to pay as soon as the bill comes - even if you are mid mouthful.
Booking fiasco aside, it is a nice place. You'd never have guessed it used to be the shoe section of the former David Evans store! It's reasonably priced, the food is anyway - I kind of resent paying 3 quid for a tiny glass of Archers & lemonade! But I think steep drink prices are what you have to expect when you're paying £12.99 to eat as much as you like! read more
