Take no notice of the slightly plain-looking exterior, because inside it's quite smart, very friendly and serves great food every time. Their crispy duck is delicious, as is the grilled satay chicken - and besides many meat dishes they also have some lovely fish mains on the menu, including dishes with Monkfish, Scallops and Red Snapper - and plenty of veggie options. Apart from offering a varied menu, they also have a number of Set Menus which are good for sharing - offering excellent value. I've only ever eaten here in the evening, and didn't realise until reading other reviews that they also serve dim sum in the afternoons - so that's now on my list of things to try sometime!

It is incredibly well maintained, despite the general dilapidated look of the immediate area surrounding it. I would go so far as to say that this is the best Chinese restaurant in Cardiff, it's certainly my favourite. Renowned for their inexpensive dim sum on a Sunday, getting a seat can be pretty tricky. But they serve dim sum every night - you just have to ask for the special menu. The staff are great, they'll stop to have a laugh and joke if you are inclined to get conversational, but regardless of this the service is prompt. They really know what they're doing. The interior is light and airy with well spaced tables and decent décor. It's easy to spot a well cared for restaurant, and the food always corresponds to the standards

They used to be closed on a Tuesday, but have recently opted to open seven days a week, including bank holidays, (but I'm unsure whether bank holidays are the same as national holidays... please enlighten me if you know the difference). Whatever the case, Noble House is open more often than it used to be, and this is a good thing! They make fantastic food, whether it be Cantonese, Peking style or Thai. One of my disappointments is that they don't do Pad Thai, but they do all of my favourite Chinese meals, like Duck and Pineapple for £4.60, which is reasonable, and cheaper than a lot of other places, and the boiled rice is £1.80, making it at the more expensive end of the scale. Chicken with Cashews is £4.30. All the Duck dishes are £4.60, and all the chicken are £4.30 (with one exception: Lemon Chicken at £4.40 which comes with two chicken breasts), beef dishes tend to be £4.40, unless you order the fillet steak options, which are priced at £6.50. Seafood dishes are all £4.60, and pork dishes are £4.30. Fantastic! They also do well priced set meals, Curries, Foo Yung, Chop Suey, Chow Mein, but no Dim Sum. They have 173 different items on their menu, so we'll forgive them the Pad Thai and Dim Sum! Highly recommended!

Ah, Noble House…read more When I lived in this part of Cardiff, Noble House was my takeaway of choice, with some of the best tasting Chinese food in Cardiff. I have a thing for chicken chow mein, and I can say with a degree of authority brought about by hundreds of chicken chow mein dishes, that Noble House make the third best chicken chow mein in Cardiff. That's high praise. All in all, the food is excellent here and is always quick too. Reasonably priced, even if it does slide towards the slightly more expensive side of that scale, it is worth the extra cost just for the extra taste. They also create a number of dishes that I've yet to find elsewhere around Cardiff, such as duck and pineapple. For the local area, there are no better Chinese takeaways, and even if you're used to your usual, you should try Noble House just once and see if they can't change your mind.

They make a half-hearted attempt at decor, but it's a bit tacky and dated. However, it's still clean and there's decent enough seating for large groups. ~ Customer Service: Walk in, and they offer you two menus: a traditional one, and an Westernised one. Obviously, I just ordered straight off the traditional menus that had plenty of photos as well. The waiters were quite friendly and spoke Mandarin to me; plus they were very efficient and food came at a decent time. The only negative was that he forgot about our drinks, but when reminded we immediately received them. Since this isn't a large restaurant, it's pretty easy to get the attention of staff. ~ Food: I noticed that Ken E. wasn't very happy with his meal but it's probably more to do with what you ordered than anything else. I ordered some of my traditional favourites and all of it was divine!. -- Steamed Pork Belly w/ Preserved Cabbage (Kou Rou) -- One of my FAVOURITE Chinese dishes. Although Golden Corner doesn't do it like my grandma does, it's still fantastic. This is a really fragrant pork belly dish with perfectly rendered fat. The meat just melts in your mouth as well. Even if you're not used to traditional Chinese flavours, I'm positive that anyone who likes pork belly will LOVE this. -- BBQ Pork Buns (Cha Siu Bao) -- This is dim sum, but one of my favourites (I used to eat tons as a kid) so I couldn't resist ordering it for dinner. A perfect mixture of sweet and savoury all in a fluffy bun. You can't go wrong with Cha Siu Bao. --- Everything else I ordered was fantastic as well, but I just really wanted to recommend the pork belly. I've eased many people in traditional Chinese food before and I swear if you come here and order it you won't regret it!

We entered the restaurant briefly but we wanted to look at the pictures on the display window, so we exited to view them, and went back into the restaurant, wanting to have our lunch. One of the waitresses, asked us rudely in Mandarin, practically yelling at us, "How many of you? You came in to the restaurant, went out, and came back in again, what did that mean?!" I politely answered that we only wanted to see the menu on the windows. The waitress was UNNECESSARILY offended by the act of my friends and I. Even so, I did not think that it was necessary to treat any customers like that. We left promptly after being treated so rudely! Until now, I cannot accept that woman's immoral behavior. She did not even apologize and she never provided quality service as we were not even seated at all. There were not many customers in the restaurant at the time - but somehow she felt so superior that she could scold her potential customers like that. We just stood there while she yelled at us. I guess her behavior is the reason why the restaurant was never frequented by people. She must have had a bad day - but that is not an excuse for her to treat anyone, especially HER PAYING CUSTOMERS this way. I would definitely NOT RECOMMEND this restaurant for ANY reason.

I've never been to Pearl of the Orient before, but I really loved their neighbouring bar's food so was happy to try this place out for the special occasion. The food itself was 5 stars, but I'm taking 1 star off due to speed and portion-size. ~ Atmosphere: If you're looking for a fancy night, Pearl of the Orient really gives it. Sleek and classy, this place has all the makings of an upscale restaurant. Probably the poshest Chinese restaurant I've ever been in! ~ Customer Service: The customer service was great, but the speed was really slow. Granted, we came on Chinese New Year which also happened to fall on a Saturday night, so I can't speak for the speed of the service for other times, but we waited over an hour for our food to arrive. As I recall, Ba Orient didn't take as long with the food so it could've been entirely that the kitchen couldn't handle the packed hall of diners, and some of the chefs may have been off themselves to celebrate the New Year. So, the long wait times may possibly not be a regular thing. ~ Food: Absolutely gorgeous. I'll be honest, since I moved to Cardiff from California, I really had to lower my standards on quality Chinese food since there's little to no competition for an authentic Chinese restaurant. However, Pearl of the Orient's food is probably good enough to hold its own even in San Francisco! The Hong Kong stye crispy roasted pork was heavenly and the sea-spiced aubergine was out of this world! The meal was so delicious and you can definitely taste the quality. The only disappointing thing is the portion sizing! I ordered 7 dishes total for 3 people which normally should've been plenty, but everything was in such small portions that we were only filled up when we ordered an extra dessert. Great tasting food, but if you're looking for a Chinese-style "feast", then you definitely need to order a lot more. I would've added more orders on, but with the wait times we decided in the end to not bother. Oh yeah, for the dessert, go for the fried custard buns. OMG! --- Overall, I'm happy to give Pearl of the Orient a try again. It's a tad bit expensive, but in my opinion you're paying an extra surcharge for the magnificent decor and atmosphere. The food is incredible, but you might want to order a lot more than you had originally planned. However, if I come back another time and the horrendous wait is still in effect, I would have to pull the rating down.

The flavours unleashed were incredible as you would expect from a middle tier restaurant, you can expect to pay at least £20 a head but it is well worth it, try to avoid to much rice don't buy it just because its what you usually do. The point is to try many different meat, fish and poultry dishes not fill up on rice. The dishes come out on these little trays with fairy light candles to keep them warm a nice touch and practical. I would go as a group of 4 maybe a double date and be spontaneous try many new dishes you've never thought of having the taste is amazing. I would recommend going for special occasions, meals with family members or the introduction to the in-laws or celebrating engagement. If you are going for a birthday party It might take to long for the service, Its your call.

Not quite Dim Sum Su level. Or Bao in London. But very respectable indeed. Took advantage of the very reasonable deal - 2 bao with fries for £8.50 which was plenty to fill me. The chips seemed a bit of a curveball, as not something I'd normally pair with bao, but it worked ok and they were cooked well. The bao themselves were lush - fried chicken with chilli mayo and daikon, and the amusingly named Chairman Bao with confit pork belly, hoisin and peanut dust. Shame they didn't have the shrimp bao as it sounded delicious but understandably it's their biggest seller, and I arrived late. The buns were soft and pillow-like, and the filling nice, albeit not exactly plentiful. Overall a solid 4*, and well worth a lunch trip, or light-ish dinner.
