Fun, fun, fun! A company organizing a networking event hired them one night and we got a chance to have caricature done. Artists are really talented. They do it so fast and very good. Had 2 artists in for a staff event and the staff had so much fun with it! Slow rolling at first but once they saw a couple people doing it the artists' chairs were full the whole event. Simply amazing! Laura is a very talented artist. I've been lucky enough to have her draw my digital caricature twice - first in March 2012 during a promotion for the Samsung Galaxy Note and more recently in April 2015 during the Yelp Fire & Ice Ball. During my first experience, I was stunned by how Laura was able to draw such incredible likenesses on a small device such as the Samsung Galaxy Note. As an artist myself, I know how difficult it is to draw portraits so her work just leaves me in awe. What was even more impressive was the fact that at the Yelp Fire & Ice Ball, Laura remembered drawing me 3 years ago. I imagine that she has seen at least 10,000 faces since we first met in March 2012, so I felt so honored that she remembered me! We were lucky enough last year to get Mark Gutierrez as well, who also does great work. I hired Sketchfaces for our booth at a community event last week and from the first email Laura was a pleasure to deal with! There was a rainy start to the day and Laura was a trooper through it all and was super friendly with all of her subjects busting out awesome caricatures amazingly fast! She sat without a single break for 5 hours!! Until her replacement Mark arrived who was also very talented and super nice and was great at managing the long line of of people and cutting it off at the right time to get as many people in as he could before the event was over, he kept going as we were taking down the booth to get his last caricature done! Laura Schoppa of Sketchfaces DC worked at the UMUC Fest today. The event ran from 3pm-6pm. I came to where Laura was working a couple of times between 4 pm & 4:30 pm. There were a number of others who were already in line when I came those couple of times -- none of whom had been given numbers. People were asked to take a seat in her chair one by one according to whom was next in line. I came back to Laura's station at roughly 5:15 pm. There were other attendees waiting to have their caricatures done and some observers. Laura had given out 7 numbers. The attendees stood holding a number in their hand. Someone saw a number 1 on the table and gave it to me so that I could have my caricature done also. Just before number 7 took his seat, I was told by Laura that she had already done a caricature for number 1 and that she wasn't doing anymore caricatures. I told Laura that it was very unfair of her to give out numbers to attendees if she didn't start her work giving out numbers to attendees or those who wanted caricatures done. She hadn't been giving numbers out all along or before I came back to her station, that is, when I had come to her station between 4 and 4:30. I explained to Laura that I had waited for a long time and for her not to do a caricature for me was unfair. She said she doesn't give out numbers the whole time because she's working and doesn't have time to give them out. If she doesn't have time to give out numbers like she said for the reason she said then why did she "find" time to give out 7 numbers. It appears the tactic she used is more for her benefit than for the benefit of those she provides caricatures to. I told Laura that she had acted very unfairly. I have no respect for professionals who act in such a manner as Laura did. read more
