We had a great experience with Sketchbook Art Studio for my daughter's college portfolio preparation. Ms. Wonju and instructors are extremely knowledgeable and genuinely committed to helping each student succeed. They provided thoughtful guidance and really understood how to bring out my daughter's strengths. The program is very well structured and professional, which was especially helpful since my daughter began her portfolio preparation a bit later than most. The school created a clear plan tailored to the specific requirements of each college she was applying to, particularly for design majors, not just traditional art majors. With their support, my daughter was accepted into most of her top choice schools this year and received scholarships from every school she got into. And it truly reflects the quality of the program. I have two daughters, and based on the experience we had with my older one, I've already enrolled my younger one, who is currently a freshman. I highly recommend this school to anyone interested in pursuing a major in art or design. read more

We have been sending our girls to Sketchbook for over 4 years and what really sets this art studio apart from others is the individualized guidance each student receives from their teachers. The other studios we have sent the girls in the past offer a more "cookie-cutter" approach from project concept to completion. The girls are allowed space to roam and explore with each project which is a far cry from their experiences in previous studios. We love how technique is emphasized along with learning how each media can alter the look, feel, and interpretation of an art piece. We cannot be happier with how our girls' have grown as artist through these years. We strongly recommend Sketchbook to anyone wanting to grow as artists! read more

I attended sketchbook for my OCSA portfolio and my college portfolio, working over a long period of time with Ms. Wonju and other staff members, Sketchbook has taught me starting from the ground up! Whether it be building basics, ideation work or simply using a studio space I can wholeheartedly recommend Sketchbook as the place to go. I got into OCSA when I applied and am now off to PRATT with scholarship for college!! Thank you Ms. Wonju read more

Ms Wonjoo Choi is the best! She helps students to prepare for art portfolios. Studio is clean and quiet. Highly recommend this studio read more

I attended Sketchbook for about a year to work on my college portfolio. I worked with Mrs. Wonju, Mr. Soomin, and Mr. Bryan. They'll all give you great constructive criticism on your pieces. I ended up getting into SCAD, MICA, Parsons, and Otis. On the side note, attending Sketchbook also helped rapidly improve my art. When working on my portfolio, Mrs. Wonju encouraged a lot of medium exploration and skill development (E.g., anatomy, color theory, etc) even when I was new and hesitant. You'll learn to be more bold in your art when working with her! read more

This place is great if you are looking for a place to build a strong portfolio for college applications. Mrs. Wonju, the owner, worked with me in developing creative thinking along with honing my technical skills. We created an elaborate and extensive portfolio that got me into Carnegie Mellon University along with many other respected colleges. This art studio actually takes time to build artistic skills and guides their students into developing impressive portfolios. I learned to make digital animations, app designs, self portraits, and realism, all while expressing my creative ideas. read more

Ms Shin is an aspiring teacher! After interviewing and trying out several art studios, we decided on Sketchbook to guide my daughter in building her college portfolio. Ms Shin and her staff patiently worked with my daughter from college selection, reviewing the criteria, to teaching her technical skills. All while encouraging her to create and showcase her own ideas and individuality Once the portfolio was completed, each piece was professionally photographed and digitized, ready for upload to each college. Thanks to the direction from Ms Shin and her dedicated teachers, my daughter was accepted to all 7 art colleges she applied for read more

I have been in Mrs. Wonju's portfolio class for a year and I was able to complete my portfolio within the span of ten months. From the process of idea sketching to finalizing pieces of artworks, she has guided me through each step and allowed me to push my limitations. Mrs. Wonju's class has not only allowed me to gain experience with various types of mediums but also to view art in a different perspective. This class has given me the ability to improve my creativity and artistic sensibilities, and I was able to incorporate my interest to connect more personally and directly with the works that I have created. Mrs. Wonju is a very experienced teacher that will successfully guide students and provide them with the help they need. If anyone is currently looking for an art class I would highly recommend this place! read more

My daughter was in the portfolio class with Ms. Wonju. It was kind of rush for her to finish the portfolio in less than 2 years. Ms. Wonju is a very experienced teacher who knows very well about good art colleges. She gave lots of advice to my daughter and prep her very well. Although sometimes she pushed really hard on my daughter but I know it was for her own good and my daughter knew that. We both felt so thankful that Ms. Wonju cares about my daughter and all of her students. As a mom, I really need a teacher not just doing her job but also doing with her heart. It is so competitive this year to apply for college because too many students fight for limited spots. My daughter got accepted by few good colleges. Thank you Ms. Wonju for her help. read more

From the provided materials to the additional help from experts, this art studio has really expanded not only my technique in creating art but also the ability to incorporate my ideas into my creations. Over the past couple years of being a part of this studio, there was never a moment where I felt behind on creating my portfolio or stress about having the right materials. Everything went according to plan and time wasn't an issue. Also, the teachers and the director contribute a lot of time on every individual. If anyone is looking for a studio for art classes or creating a portfolio, I highly recommend this studio. read more

Throughout the many years that I have worked with Mrs. Wonju Choi, while I have changed considerably in the last four year in both skill and mentality (both being highly attributed to my time with her), she has always been consistent in her dedication and belief in my abilities. I can not recommend her enough to any new coming and inspiring artists who hope to pursue a career in the arts. I might like to add for those who find my statement to be too sentimental that I have been accepted into most of the art colleges that I have applied to and have received many favorable scholarship. read more

The best of the best!! Ms. Wonju is the fifth art teacher I've had, and that's why I can confidently say that she is the best of the best. I've attended her studio classes for the past 1 and a half, almost 2 years. Throughout, she guided me in both my personal art journey and in the development of my college portfolio. It's evident that she has extensive experience and is extremely dedicated. She's an expert at elevating student ideas while maintaining our interests in mind. She has also been able to advise me throughout the art college application process. I'm beyond grateful to have found her and it's because of her that I'll be able to attend RISD in the fall. Thank you, Ms. Wonju! read more

I discovered sketchbook art studio around my freshman year and ended up going there until my senior year of high school. Mrs. Choi is an amazing and dedicated teacher who really cares about her students and their artistic development. The staff are very skilled and help students with improving their technical skills and creative abilities. They also prepared me for applying to art schools by guiding me in my portfolio process. Overall it was a great experience and I am glad I chose to go there. I ended up getting into really good art schools with scholarships and I'm thankful for their guidance. read more

I had Ms Wonju for almost a year to help me build a portfolio to submit for college. Needless to say, she has been more than just a teacher to me. She helped me develop my skills and techniques, she shaped me into the artist that I am today, and for that I'm thankful. After hours and hours of work and effort we both invested in each project, I had successfully finished a 2 year long portfolio in barely 10 months. She had helped me experiment with new mediums and different dimensions throughout each piece. She pushes her students when needed and lends them a hand if necessary. She put in just as much blood, sweat, and tears as I do. She's very experienced with kids of all different ages and skill levels. She is easy to open up to, communicate with, and a pleasure to be around. You definitely wont go wrong with her as your art teacher! read more

Without Ms. Wonju, I wouldn't be pursuing Ringling College's computer animation program (with a great scholarship too!). I was a sophomore in high school when I met her, so I spent two good years pursuing my portfolio. Within those two years, I was able to produce fundamental pieces and conceptual drawings geared toward my desired major. Like most parents, mine were skeptical of me pursuing a career in the arts, but Ms. Wonju convinced them otherwise. Ms. Wonju is incredibly organized. Working together, Ms. Wonju and I hit all the requirements needed for each art college. I've known plenty of people who have procrastinated on their portfolios, which hindered them from applying to other art school. Initially, I felt very insecure about my limited knowledge of art. I didn't know anything about color, or how to use different mediums, or what made a good illustration. With Ms. Wonju's guidance, I felt more confident approaching different ideas and how to present them. Ms. Wonju taught me to be confident, and to give myself more credit. Ms. Wonju cares about her students; she checks in with her students frequently and makes sure their artworks are the best they can be. Ms. Wonju is incredibly dedicated to her students. One time, Ms. Wonju sat patiently with one particular student for hours, trying to help her out. Creating an art portfolio is extremely exhausting, but Ms. Wonju makes the process painless. Plenty private art teachers will force students to draw or paint something phenomenal, but with no soul. Ms. Wonju welcomes creativity and helps students make their imaginations into reality. This flexibility has had countless students accepted into fantastic art schools. With that said, Ms. Wonju is an excellent teacher and resource. She won't let you down. read more

I am very happy to have this awesome art studio around this area. The class is fun and creative for younger kids. My kids started the class around 4.5 years old. He loves the class a lot. I love how the teachers guide them to draw and express their own creative art instead of just looking at some art and replicate it. I noticed that all the kids were working on the same project but all of them are so unique and different! It's their own authentic work instead of just replicating the same thing as a class. I love the teachers and the director Miss Wonju very much! They put a lot of heart into making the class fun and also teach kids to be creative. All of my kids have been going here and they all love the class very much! read more

I had Ms. Shin for about 6 years and I cannot stress enough how amazing of a teacher she is. I do mean it when I say that you will never find a teacher like her anywhere else. She is experienced in teaching and knows what colleges look for in prospective students because she is more than qualified as an artist. She pushes students to achieve their full potential. I learned a variety of skills with the time that I was with her. I was able to discover new talents in different media and subject matters. As mentioned in the reviews above, she does not enforce her own style onto students. It is truly your own artwork that you are producing, which is a large factor that people must consider when choosing an art studio. I, too, was disappointed to see that other studios required students to follow a certain way to create their portfolio. However, Sketchbook was the perfect fit for me because there are no restrictions. Not only is she a stellar artist, but she also knows a lot about art colleges and their programs. This is great and useful for students who want to continue pursuing their art career in the future. Students can ask Ms. Shin for advice when deciding which art college would be the most suitable for them. For the 6 years I was with her, she helped me improve my techniques and skills to become a better artist. read more

I've been in Mrs. Wonju's class for almost 4 years and she helped teach me everything I needed for my future into the arts. This class helped build my portfolio, technical skills, and creative thinking. Thanks to her, I've got accepted into all four of the art colleges I applied to, and with high scholarships! If you are interested in become an artist, this class will certainly grow your skills and prepare you for the future. What I appreciate most, is how, Mrs. Wonju cares for each individual student. She recommended colleges for our specific major, she helps arrange our portfolios to best fit each colleges requirements, she keeps notes of our gpa's to guarantee our chances, and recommends writers to help critique our college essays! Even after I have completed my time in the class, she continues to keep in contact with me and all her students as she loves to hear feedback from the colleges we applied to. If you move up into the portfolio classes, take my advance: try you're best not to miss any classes, be open minded to others advice, and be prepared to work hard! The outcome is worth it! :) read more

Ms. Shin is a great art teacher. Mrs. Wonju Shin has been my art teacher for 6 years now. I began her art class as a fun after school activity, that evolved into my future career path. As I advanced in my abilities I transitioned into her more advanced portfolio class. This class is extremely beneficial to students who are looking to build an impressive portfolio for their art college application. I came to this studio with no professional experience of preparing a portfolio; however, I left with confidence and gratefulness. Ms Wonju taught me everything she had and get me into the most prestige art schools in the States in less than half year. I went from having nothing to having solid materials to submit my applications. Ms Wonju taught me not only skills but how to be a true artist in many ways. She taught me how to view the world in a different and artistic way; she taught me how to find multiple usage in a single medium; and she taught me how to develop an idea to its biggest value. For me, Sketchbook Studio is more than just a place to draw and learn, it is a place that develop and train art student who have the same dream as me; it is a place that shape talented students and create innovative artist. It is also a place that you will feel more than just classrooms, but also a place that full of hospitality, consideration and enthusiasm. Ms Wonju is more than a teacher, but a friend, a communicator, a educator and a true artist to me. You will be surprise how much you can learned from this studio just like me. Without her patience and professions, I would never complete and fulfill what I have now as an art student and an aspiring artist. read more
