I have not been to this place in years . Today I came in with my daughter and 2 friends and the music that was playing was by far so un appropriate for children . I was so disappointed that this world has come to this . Family , kids places should be with music for children or at least with clean lyrics. ( Cochie and fucking )are not words suitable for children. Then we complaint that our kids are turning bad . So sad

I brought my kids here over the summer and we had so much fun. Upbeat music and nice rink. Negatives - it got really crowded around the game area and was hard to move through to get food or go to the bathroom. There were a bunch of non-working video game consoles that they could remove to make more space. Large parking area. Prices are a little steep but if you skate the whole time, it wasn't too bad. Bring water or money to buy water and snacks.

For how relatively cheap and unique this place is, it deserves nothing less than a 4/5. In total for two people to get in and rent skates, it was about 24 bucks. Plenty of seating and fun to be had. I think the people who rated it poorly are most upset at their own ineptitude to skate well and feel inadequate to the other patrons who frequent here regularly. The employees were all super friendly and we had a blast. I guess I'll only give it a 4 because I thought the music selection could use an upgrade. It was ok but there were several skaters riding around with headphones listening to their own music. Other than that, you should absolutely go! We've been a couple times now and plan to go more!

No need for a Time Machine to travel back in time to this nostalgic skate rink! My husband and I went here for a date night and had so much fun! Don't worry if you're not very good and need to take a break! There are some very talented and entertaining patrons to keep you occupied! The prices can't be beat and they have a fully stocked snack bar! Highly recommend!

So fun! Nostalgia. Great music, just like it was in the 90's. Food, games, lights nostalgia, smiles. Worth every penny.

Things to know:…read more 1)There's a a fee to enter and another to rent skates. Because I was accompanying kids and didn't plan to skate, there was no entry fee. 2) There's an online schedule showing the different event times, and when applicable target ages. We brought my partners kids on a Thursday during the 5p-7:30p slot because 8-10p was 21+ (that day). The 5p slot didnt list ages, but tuns out it was mostly little kids. Additional teens and older people started showing up later, but still seemed younger age focused (with group games like hula hoop). 3) There's a decent number of arcade games for the space. If you don't have quarters, you can use the change machine. While the assortment of games was good, my gripe is that we counted 84 tickets won playing. However their ticket counting machine only accounted for 66. While the experience was okay, I think it's a nice option with a good selection of music, decent sized rink, fair pricing (cant speak for concessions) and a nostalgic feel. Check it out for yourself.

Cheap Skate does have certain hours so be sure to call ahead or check online. I believe there are hours for family/kids and some evening for just adults. So fun for everyone. I was able to purchase tickets online but you do need to check-in when you get there despite the check-in on the online scannable ticket. I took my kiddos for some skating fun and oh how it brought back memories! Cheap Skate has a 90s feel to it but with all the hip music of nowadays. A great workout and all around fun. The cost to skate isn't bad but like anything now-a-days you for pay for everything. In addition to the fee to get in and skate, there is a rental skate fee, locker fee, and obviously arcade, bouncy houses, and food. Speaking of food we got some icees, soda, pizza, and ice cream. Pretty pricey for what it was but for an easy access to food without leaving - exactly what you'd expect. The screens telling you what you can order either weren't working or not turned on properly when I went to order (about an hour in) so I had to ask what food items were available. My kids weren't interested in the bouncy house or the arcade although as a typical arcade there are tickets where you can exchange for prizes. We had so much fun and we were so exhausted by the end. Overall, I would highly recommend if you're looking indoor fun.

Rice Park is another one of those things, with its pretty twinkling lights... and the majestic Landmark Center backdrop doesn't hurt either. Together, WinterSkate comes to life as an outdoor rink right in the middle of St. Paul. This year, it's open from Nov. 26 to Feb. 5. They have a warming house for changing your skates and staying cozy. The rink itself isn't huge, but I basically just need room to lurch around like a Frankenstein and then fall... so I'm good. Best part aside from the fact that you have an instant date-night? Skate rentals are only $2 and the rink itself is FREE. So what are you waiting for? Oh yeah, winter has to come first. What's to review about ice? Well sit back and lets me edjumacate yous. A - ice arenas are not all the same. not even close. B - the ice at each individual arena can be drastically different. DRASTICALLY! Thirdly - staff, staff, staff. Ok, on to the review; I take my son here for open skate either every Wednesday or every other Wednesday to keep up his skating skills for hockey - side note, 5-6 yr olds playing hockey is absolutely adorable - side note over. In general it is an exceptional arena for this. Not too cold, always clean, friendly staff - HUGE shout out to Tara who is a fantastic employee and really makes it fun!! However.....the ice is always a little soft for my taste. More edjumacations? Yes. Ice can be soft. GASP!! Soft ice = great for figure skaters but terrible for hockey and not so good for standard skating Also, it's getting a little thin. Even more edjumacations? Yes. Ice can be too thin. It causes cracks and ruts. Cracks and ruts = folks on their butts! Thats the bad. Overall not too big of an issue. Now the good; 1 - The aformentioned staff (what up Tara?), all of which are always friendly, courteous, and just plain nice. These are mostly late teens to early 20's kids people!! And they're nice! 2 - Clean, clean, clean. Love an ice arena that's clean. See one that isn't and you'll know what I mean. (I'm a poet and didn't even know it) 3 - Centrally located 4 - Relatively inexpensive (*ahem* date night, date night). $4 to skate. $2 more to rent if you don't own skates (and they are good rental skates) 4 stars because of all the good. Work on that ice and it'll be 5 PS; a word to the wise - this is skating, on ice, ice is hard, it will hurt if you fall. Wear padding if you are a beginner, no one will care and no one will make fun of you. Trust me. It hurts to fall.
