George sized me for skates that didn't fit, and would not let me return them. He did not allow me to try on and ok the boot before heat molding them to my foot and then shipping me out the door with the glib reassurance: "Trust me, I'm so good at my job." He fit me with a boot that was too narrow and too long. From the first skate they hurt due to the width. George told me I had to skate on them several hours before bringing them back to be punched out. I painfully complied and then brought them back. They sat on George's stretching machine for a day each, and still didn't work. Meanwhile George lectured me that kids were much easier than adults because they didn't complain about having to break in skates. George promised to make the boot work, but it sounded to me he would not admit that it wasn't the right boot. So to be sure, I went to another shop and actually tried on a D width boot! Heaven! I bought it, feeling that George would not believe he'd given me the wrong boot until i could produce the right boot. But when I called to ask what we could work out for a return, he told me i was on my own. He told me i should have had him work the boot several more times, and eventually he would have conceeded that i needed a different boot. In hindsight, the cost of this would have been two hours of driving per visit, more painful skating, and more pressuring me into taking the wrong boot as it was. No Thanks! Even if i have to resell the boot myself, i think it was the right decision not to continue working with George. I had also had a very hard time controlling the new skate. . . the vendor who sold me the right skate looked at them and said George had mis-mounted them. It took only a half hour to get used to my new skates from the other shop. read more
