Certified Organic practices with no chemicals or pesticides" I appreciate their commitment and the woman who works the front counter on Saturdays (when you can come and pick up your order) is super nice. Certified organic farmers since 1998 who go the extra mile by not vaccinating their animals. The animals' grazing areas are rotated continuously Spring and Summer. The benefits of grass-fed beef are enormous and worth the effort to get it. You can buy small portions or order in bulk, too. From their farm store (on Saturdays only) you can buy eggs, individual cuts of beef & pork, sausage, honey from their hives, and seasonal organic produce. I LOVE their short ribs. You can find their meat and eggs at various stores in Mount Vernon, Bellingham, Seattle, Mountlake Terrace, Federal Way, Tacoma, Kent and Enumclaw. And in 2010 at Farmers Markets in Seattle and the Eastside so I suspect selling at Seattle and Eastside Farmers Markets will continue! read more

We have been happy customers of Eiko and her family, owners of Skagit River Ranch, for at least 10 years. Everything we've ever purchased from them has been of the highest quality and flavor. Our Thanksgiving Turkey and Christmas Ham are ordered early every year to ensure that our family and guests continue to enjoy the delicious holiday dinners they have come to know and love. Oh the bacon, it deserves to have poems written about it - yes, it's THAT good. I still remember the first time we bought a package of Skagit River bacon, it was more expensive than we were accustomed to spending but we were wanting to eat meat that was locally raised so we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed it was absolutely the best bacon we'd every had. Needless to say, we've never bought any other bacon since and we never will as long as Eiko and her family are still selling theirs! Another favorite is their sausages - all of them. You can't go wrong, really. Each year we purchase a "pork pack" to fill our freezer with pork chops, sausages, bacon, pork loin and other delicious cuts. It's wonderful to be able to take meat from the freezer for dinner knowing that it was humanely raised and locally sourced. Years ago, I decided to get very serious about my family's health and happiness. I wanted to find fresh, local, organic meats that were going to nourish my family. I also wanted my growing boys and girl to know where their food came from and that they were eating animals raised ethically. After searching many farms throughout Washington, I went to Skagit River Ranch and spoke with George and Eiko. They were extremely knowledgeable famers that had a jaw-droppingly beautiful farm. Their animals were healthy, happy and flourishing. I knew this was the place to buy my food. The long line at the farmer's market was a big indicator I wasn't alone. I knew even more after I started eating their food! We rarely eat out anymore because nothing compares. Our family buys nearly all our beef, pork and eggs from SRR. I'm convinced our dog lived years longer thanks to the extra nourishment from their nutrient dense foods. Our new pup loves their eggs, organ meats and chicken necks! I want recommend the meats at Skagit River Ranch. I have been purchasing produce from Eiko's (along with her daughter Nicole and Sarah her employee) stand at the University District Farmers' Market most Saturdays for nearly three seasons now. Their steaks and sausages are especially delicious. I usually broil or BBQ the NY or Ribeye and 95% of the time they turn out outstanding. The other 5% is very good to excellent. To be perfectly honest. I have never been to the ranch. I do buy the products on a consistent bases from the Ballard Farmers Market. One word, BACON! The best bacon I have ever had, if I was an addict it would be bacon and only SRR bacon. I have had their Breakfast Sausage Links, and the Andouille Sausage, brisket, and the Polish Sausage. I am a long time customer of SSR. I have watched George and Eiko's lovely daughter Nicole grow up. (She is often at the U District market on Saturdays.) We have visited the farm many times. Humanely treated, organic and truly free range, the quality of their products is amazing. As another reviewer said, the bacon! The eggs are great, too, if you can get there before they sell out. I'm a vegetarian, except when I buy Skagit River Ranch meat! Not only do George and Eiko raise some of the best tasting meat around, but it's also the healthiest. I head to the farm store to chat with Betty, pet Puzzle and sniff out a new recipe card. As a bonus, the whole family is beyond delightful. Even with all the bad meat we've gotten from Skagit River Ranch, their breakfast sausage always was good. It was the only thing that was good from them! We went to PCC in Edmonds to buy a package of Skagit River's breakfast sausage today. It was packaged in April!!! I won't buy sausage that is that old! If it was in my freezer that long, I'd throw it out! Apparently, Skagit River is still up to their old tricks of selling bad meat. read more

These guys produce some of the finest meats in the pacific northwest. They are personable, reliable and true artisans of their craft. For example, the chickens have all the flavor of two chickens packed into one. The tenderloins are the same way and fantastically tender. You can buy stuff from them online, but I'd recommend finding them at the University District Farmer's Market. My wife wanted to buy some organic beef so she did some research and decided to order half a beef from SRR. I'll tell you what, this was some of the toughest and least flavorful meat that we have ever had. Every once in a while we would be having a steak and look at each other and say this one is tender and has flavor. And if you,re thinking the way we prepared and cooked the beef must be the reason, not so. Anyway we won't be buying anymore of it. read more
