Never receive a phone call back with concerns to a complaint. I have been asking for help regarding water run off destroying my back yard for almost a year! SK has decided that my home shoukd be the ONLY home in the subdivision that not deserve privacy by building an elevated outdoor patio that looks directly into mine at almost arms length touching distance. Even before construction began on the adjacent home, I asked that they revise the floor plan to allow me the same privacy as EVERYONE else in the subdivision but NOPE they went right ahead and did not care how their decision woukd impact the value of my home and life. We are so very glad we picked SK Builders to build our dream home here in the upstate. We had bought 4 brand new homes in 4 other states prior to this one. Our new SK home is by far the best built. The standard features (9 ft ceilings, rounded corners, arched doorways, fireplace etc.) gave us a home that looks like a custom home but for a reasonable cost. We were also able to add our own personal touch by picking our cabinets, floors, counter tops and adding some elements that were important to us. The attention to detail and the finish work is above our expectations. I am having a hard time coming up with more than a few small things to have them fix at our 90 day follow up visit. Our site supervisor Billy, was simply amazing. He went above and beyond to make our new home the best it could possibly be. Any time we had an issue or a concern, the problem was taken care of to our satisfaction within a reasonable time frame. Billy's desire to build a great quality home for us was very evident in every interaction we had with him. We love our new home! Thanks SK Builders for making our dream home come true. read more

Very poor communication; was told different things, sometimes the exact opposite statement, multiple times by different people working for SK. Even had the same person change their story more than once. Was also told numerous times that certain things would be done and that we could "trust SK to do the right thing". However, these promises were then summarily ignored & when we asked about them were told that "if it's not in the contract it's not our problem"!! This was after we had asked more than once to have certain things included in our contract but we were told wasn't necessary because "SK will do the right thing; it doesn't need to be in the contract". At this point we don't feel like we can trust ANYTHING that we're told from either SK or McAlister realty unless it's written down and signed by someone from your companies. Also, another point to the poor communication, I have emailed multiple times about issues and they are either ignored completely or responded to with answers to questions that I'm not even asking, which is just another way of ignoring the problem in my opinion. If we had to build a house over again, based on our experience there's no way we'd even consider building with SK or buying from McAlister Realty. read more

We had a few issues at the very beginning of our experience with SK but it was all quickly resolved. The attention to detail on our new home is wonderful: from matching granite countertops, hand scraped hardwood and crown molding - this is the perfect craftsman style home. The very few issues we have had were taken care of almost immediately since we have moved in and the warranty on the home gives us reassurance that this was the best home for us. read more

We would not choose SK Builders to build for us again, and we would never recommend them. They are not a company with integrity or honesty, and they don't carry through with what they tell you they will do. Even if it's in writing, they find loopholes to choose a cheaper way to do things. They hire workmen that are messy and do sloppy work, and then just basically say that we should accept it. "That's the way it is." For example, water pours off the side of our roof when it rains the least amount (the roof is not level), and they refuse to put a gutter there because "there's nothing wrong with it." It has destroyed the sod under the problem area. If they do come into the house to repair something, they will not repaint the area until the 1 year walk through. They said they would replace a cracked glass in the front door (that was there when we bought the house), but that they would not repaint the frame, and they left us no contractors' paint to do it ourselves. Sherwin Williams says if we buy paint that color, that it will not match because it's not contractor's paint. These are just two examples of the way they treat their customers after they get your money. read more

I have heard many bad comments from their home owners. My mom has lived in one of their subdivisions for a couple years and found that they have left a few things incomplete. She has had quite a few issues along the way with them. read more

We were thrilled to build our first home. Overall, we are pleased with our home but each day we are finding more and more things wrong. The process of choosing the layout and designs went smoothly. But the building was when the nightmare began. During the building process they put in the wrong sink (was not resolved) and we were not informed. Later they put the stones around our fireplace incorrectly and said we asked it to be done that way. There are many parts of the walls that are not painted, and the exterior of our house has cement from construction. We had our blue tape inspection and felt good knowing the items would be resolved and several of them were not. We've called with concerns about sprinklers, gas and more and it took weeks for them to send someone out to take a look. We had many concerns regarding the water runoff destroying our backyard and the side of our house. We were promised that they would come back and re-sod the grass that was destroyed on the side of our house. Only to be told later that they wouldn't. When asked to speak to with the builders we were told no. Many of their workers walk on our driveway with muddy boots and they come and measure things in our yard without asking. They are building beside us and often times we find bottles and food wrappings in our yard on the daily. Please reconsider before building with SK. I had hoped that things would get resolved so I did not have to write a review but sadly they have not been. read more

We recently purchased a home in the Stonegate subdivision in Seneca South Carolina. We are very pleased with our new home. The quality of the build is excellent. When we have had questions or concerns response time has been quick and they have taken care of the concerns the same day. I love the floor plan, the space, and living in our new home. I'm not very impressed with the houses you are building in Copper Creek. One house had the rafters sitting out in the rain and 100 degree sun for 2 months this summer (2012). We assumed since they were warped and discolored they would be replaced before you built the home, instead you are building the home at 5 Bromley Way, Simpsonville, SC 29681 with warped trusses. Is your McAllister realtor telling people they have warped roof trusses and possibly mold growing in their attic? read more

After building with SK a year ago, I honestly cannot fathom the fact that they are still in business. Not only was the building process full of corruption and lies, one year later and we still have nothing to show for the promises they have made. We are still awaiting work to be completed from our final walk-through, 3 month walk-through, and unannounced 1 year walk-through. The work they produce is bare minimum slapped with promises they do not plan to keep and work they do not plan to follow through on. They leave the home site a complete disaster during and after the completion of the home. Believe me, there are other builders out there that will take every aspect of the lot, customer, and process into account to make the experience a good one, unlike SK. If you're looking to build, please do not choose this company unless you're looking for a major disappointment and foul taste left in your mouth regarding building a home. read more

We are beyond thrilled with our new home. The support that we received from the McAlister Realty realtor was over and above the "norm." She worked great with our realtor in helping us make great choices for our home that would suit our family. We were able to customize our home in many ways to fit our needs while still keeping our cost affordable. There were many floor plans to choose from, making SK Builders a great fit for any family. A few times during the building process, slight changes needed to be made to fit our original plans, but during all of those instances SK Builders made the adjustments necessary. We did have a few issues with the grading within our subdivision, but we are still in the early stages and waiting to see how it all works out when the entire subdivision is developed. Overall, we are very pleased with our decision to build with SK Builders and would recommend it to any of our friends or family. read more

If there was a zero star I would select it. I want everyone that is considering SK Builders to read this and think about the pain and suffering they are going to endure throughout the process. From top to bottom, there is no one in this organization that will treat you with respect. For a company that advertises on "HIS" radio, they really need to go and pray about the treatment of their customers. We have been under contract with SK since January, and are supposed to close tomorrow at 10am. Unfortunately, here it is the last day, and we are still not sure if that will indeed happen. Oh, and don't expect any of their "realtors" that work for them from McAlister Realty to work past 5pm to answer phone calls and represent you as their client. It is all a scam to get you from both ends; profits on the construction, and profits from the purchase. The communication is non-existant and the coordination is very poor. Expect to see work done and then redone over and over again. Luckily my wife and I have a strong relationship, because the amount of time I have wiped her tears through the process of building her dream home has put a pain in my heart. We are not even excited to move in any more, just want this process over with. Just drive through any SK neighborhood and ask anyone and you will hear the same story: "this builder cannot get you closed when you are supposed to, they will continually make mistakes and not rectify them, they will not return phone calls nor communicate at all with you during the process". If you need any other indicator on the type of people that run this business, do yourself a favor and try to locate a phone number or a name of any of the family owners......you cannot. Please do yourself a favor and run so you do not take years off of your life by stressing in the multiple months it will take to build your home. read more

When we began the process of looking for a builder, we had read the warnings about SK Builders and decided they may have been isolated problems. Unfortunately, much of what has been said about them came true for us too. The communication between SK/Mcalister and us was all one sided. From beginning to end, we were rarely informed of the progress, and even worse, rarely allowed to be involved in the decision making process of building our house. They missed closing date 4 times and we spent 2 months longer in a rental than we were supposed to. Their excuses for delays were lies--we checked up on them and researched the reasons only to find them to not be truthful. They spend their resources on their bigger projects like the subdivisions and have nothing left to do individual housing projects. You are left on their timetable, whenever they can spare people to work on it. They did not respect us as a client and customer. We were treated with disrespect and contempt through the whole process. If you choose them to be your builder, expect lots of delays and little communication. read more
