I felt uncomfortable and left. I went to Costco and purchased some sunglasses. The customer service was excellent! I will never return to Six Rivers Optical. I moved back to Humboldt County 4 years ago. I was living in Sacramento and had a great optical dispenser. honestly, I had forgotten about Six Rivers Optical. I used to get my eyewear from them 20 years ago. When my cousin kept showing up in great eyewear, I finally asked where she was getting them. To my surprise it was from Six Rivers Optical! I had VSP Insurance and was getting my glasses from my optician, but the last pair left me flat, so I decided to take a look at SRO. Boy, am I glad that I did! First of all, Marty recognized me from back in the day! mind you, i had dark hair, lets be honest I actually still had hair! I found the perfect pair of glasses that gave me the look I have been searching for. Marty's perfectionism is just what I want from my optical dispenser. To how the glasses sit on my face to how the vision lines up. I have progressive lens and I am super picky about my vision. When he delivered the final product, it was beyond my expectations. After going to another eye place for her eye exam in town, my wife was told at that location that to replace her glasses it was gong to be in over 700$, with their downgraded low end choice at just over 500$ - 500$ bucks for low end... Now I know eye wear can be expensive but this seemed excessive even for nor-cal, so much so that it made me question their real motives. Was it to make sure my wife had proper eye wear or was it to just try and make an extra buck or two (or more) off us. This prompted me to do a little looking around. I called Six Rivers Optical - from the moment I spoke on the phone with them to the time my wife was fitted, and then picked up her new glasses - every step of the way was first class. The customer service is second to none, and professionalism that makes other places fail in comparison. Great local service, a nice selection of quality name brand frames, fair competitive pricing and helpful friendly professional knowledgeable service - this is a hard to beat combination. This is the very best Optical shop in the Humboldt bay area. All said and done, my wife's new eye wear cost us about half of what was quoted/priced at the other location. She received first class personal service, got the eye wear she wanted and it did not break the bank. Highly recommend for all of you eye wear/vision needs. Came here from a friends recommendation. The staff seemed friendly, but the glasses were extremely pricey. Going in, I asked for a recommendation for a sturdy frame that would last......and And ended up buying their recommendation. I Was told there was a warranty but when my glasses broke/snapped after a month, I was not given the warranty. I walked away feeling deceived :/ As Much as I like supporting local, I will most likely look for someplace else to get glasses in the future. read more

I'm stingy with my stars, and for good reason. We live in a society where people expect trophies just for showing up, but in the case of Six Rivers Optical, they earned each and every single star from me, without exception. I went in this morning, in DIRE need of a replacement pair of glasses, especially since I'm not allowed to drive without them. Marty couldn't have been more helpful, coming out to help me squeeze my old, seriously battered lenses into a temporary pair of frames until he could finish my glasses, which he literally had done in less than 2 hours. In Eureka. In a large city, speedy service wouldn't have been difficult to find, but in Eureka? On a Friday morning? I couldn't have been happier with the speed or quality of the service he provided me with. Not only did he provide me with an accurate pair of prescription glasses in less than 2 hours (he might have done it sooner, but I was in a business meeting for those 2 hours), he also took time out to show me frames that were better suited for a man who's as hard as glasses as I am. When I came to pick them up, he took time out to make sure they were properly adjusted, then provided me with some cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth, at no charge, with promises that I could refill the solution anytime I ran out. As if this wasn't enough, he made sure that I was fully aware that the frames and lenses were covered under warranty, which was a relief for someone who's as rough on eyewear as I am. The last time I got glasses in Eureka, it took more than 6 weeks to get them, so trust me when I say that I was pleasantly surprised with how fast Marty moved. Marty, thank you. This little optical shop truly and literally saved our family vacation! When we lost my sons glasses in the ocean, we were all devastated, but especially my son who has a very high power eyeglasses prescription and cannot see more than a few inches in front of his face. We were desperate to find somewhere that could make him Glasses. Our only other option was to drive straight home. Because his RX is so strong, Six Rivers did not have his lenses in stock, but they had lenses that were close and called his doctor to approve making glasses of the strongest lens that they had. They were so accommodating, compassionate, and kind to us, and because of the new glasses, we were able to continue on our vacation and have the time our our lives! read more
