I grew up coming to this park, but after moving far away, I hadn't visited since 2012. I heard it's closing down at the end of the season, so this past Friday I drove up to Maryland to reminisce and enjoy one last visit. I got in for free using my Knott's Berry Farm season pass. I didn't have to pay for parking with my pass, but I noticed the parking employees were waving everybody into the lot and not bothering to charge anyone. The park was very clean and free of trash. While some parts of the park have seen better days, some areas looked great. The old western area stood out, it's obvious it was fixed up very recently. Other areas of the park looked pretty much exactly the same as they did 20 years ago. A fair amount of rides didn't open the entire day, including Batwing, Penguin's Blizzard River, Wonder Woman swing, the Psyclone scrambler, and the river rapids ride. The Wild One didn't open until around 2 in the afternoon. The Ragin Cajun was open at some points, but seemed to be having trouble all day. All of the coasters that were open only had one train going, but the park was almost empty and there weren't any lines. I was pleasantly surprised at how well some of the coasters were running. Superman and Joker's Jinx were very smooth, no roughness at all. The Wild One, considering it's over 100 years old, runs like a champ. I have to give props to the staff. I was impressed with how upbeat and friendly the ride operators were. They were working efficiently and dispatching trains without delay. My only big gripe with the park is how many of the restaurants were closed. I don't eat when I'm at parks, but it was a challenge finding places to get soda refills for my unlimited soda deal. I had an excellent day at Six Flags America. I'm happy my final memories here were positive ones. I had a lot of fun here growing up, and I'm going to miss it. Thank you for all of the fun over the years!

Actually quite surprised this place has a good amount of people visiting on the weekends. It was a random weekend, but I still had to wait a bit for some rides. Not a ton of waiting like the summer time and during its prime time when I was little. I think this place has been well maintained and staffed. Plenty of staff everywhere. Lots to do and it's a large location to walk around for one day. The staff are nice and very accommodating. I do love all the safety checks before each ride. Made me feel safe. One downside is that the rides do show signs of aging. They operate fine, just that you can tell it has been some time. One ride, I remember as a kid. I was shocked it was still operating. Another is the food is really limited and pricey. But that is actually expected. Simple supply and demand. It was a fun experience as an adult. I felt a bit too big for the seats though so it seems more catering to teenagers.

It's closing soon, no kidding . Almost every ride was CLOSED! I got on 2 roller coasters, there are nine. One of them was a very bumpy wooden roller coaster that hurt my head very bad, don't ride the Wild One! Jokers Jinx was alright but not amazing. The entire Superman/batman part of the park was CLOSED. On the train ride (which only has one train and takes forever to get to the station) we saw the Superman/batman part. The kid rides were literally taken apart and laid out like they were going to sell it. merch was good, but why would you buy merch for a bad park. Front entrance was cool, I wish the rest of the park was as grand as the front. NO SHADE and FEW BATHROOMS. Staff were nice.

Went here for the first and last time back in August. It was relatively crowded but most of the rides were either walk on or short waits. I wasn't able to ride Batwing (RIP Vekoma Flying Dutchman) or Superman RoS as they were closed and skipped Ragin Cajun but was able to ride the other coasters. Roar was rough yet enjoyable. Wild One was the main reason for coming so I could get the credit and for it's age, it was very enjoyable and it will be missed if it isn't relocated. Firebird was okay but rough.Joker's Jinx was fun. SkyWinder was horribly rough, though I was in the backseat so it may have been different had I been in a different row, my train actually got stuck on the lifthill which should have been the first clue as to the impending ride experience. Merch selection was subpar but given the circumstances it is understandable. A nice little park that will be missed, As an ACE member I'm glad I was able to make it here and I never like when a park closes for good.

Of the other three Six Flags parks that I have visited, Six Flags of America wasn't as great. Ok, so Six Flags America has everything needed for the the Six Flags brand - roller coasters, a water park, limited shade, expensive food and beverage, rambunctious kids and teens, etc. However, for me, there was something missing. To be honest, I would have assumed that there would be more thrill roller coasters. Unlike the other Six Flags that I have visited, you probably could ride all of the major rides in one day, or rather in a half day. Appearance wise, I thought the park was a bit outdated compared to other Six Flag theme parks. A lot of the paint jobs looked pretty faded as if there was limited upkeep during the off season. Also, there were sections of the park that were completely deserted as if they haven't been used for a few years. Judging by the crowds, it seemed as if more folks come to Six Flags America for the water park and not the actual amusement park. I guess that was a positive thing for us because the lines for the roller coasters were not too bad. I think we waited about 30 minute for the major roller coasters. For a weekend visit in mid June, I thought it was a bit odd that they park was open from 11 am to only 7 pm. I would have assumed that the park would stay open until 10 pm at least. Perhaps, this park does not have enough staff to cover longer hours. Overall, I thought the customer service at the park was pretty good. The bartender at the New Orleans bar was really fun. We had a meal at Jonny Rockets, and the food was edible ... not that I was expecting an amazing dining experience at an amusement park. Also, I thought the park was pretty clean with the exception of the restrooms. I'm not really sure how the sinks were dirtier than the floors. Actually, I think this issue falls more on some customers that believe they are too good to clean up after themselves. Fortunately for us, we took advantage of a summer sale where a season pass was around $60 dollars, which is pretty cheap when you think about current admission prices for amusement parks. I guess we'll will be back in the near future to check out Hurricane Harbor and to get a ROI on our investment. Final thoughts, I think this park is fine if you live within an hour from it. Put it like this if I was equidistance from Six Flags America or Six Flags Adventure in New Jersey, I'd definitely would go to the one in Jersey.

This place pulls the word "hood" from "hoodwinked" and embraces it. Not only does it cost you a small pension to get in but what you get is not worth it. The attitude from the majority of the staff is unacceptable and unwelcoming. From the moment I arrived I should have guessed it would be down hill until rock bottom but then someone broke out a jack hammer and went deeper. The gate entrance for vehicles does not move cars very well but instead dumps you off at the first gate at to only far left gates leaving the far right unused and difficult to navigate to. But that is not the worst part. Once you are inside the area is falling apart. The Batmobile on display is a rust bucket with two flat tires for example. The meal plan seems like a great deal but even though the plan and the app on your phone says it is accepted at "X" restaurant, it is not at some places that says it is. This makes getting the already expensive food a challenge and everyone seems to have a huge chip on their shoulder. Then the rides seem alright so some stars there but the people working them, again horrible attitude. Back to food now, I stopped for pizza and they accepted my voucher for food but attitude again and the two drink machines are not working and of the 27 tables 8 had no chats at them. I was chatting with corporate thought this experience via their website and they directed me to guest relations who was kind but the only thing they could do was offer me a cup of water from a huge water thermos. No partial refund no nothing, just a small cup of water. I have been here five hours of my planned 10 hour visit and I just want to go home but I spent so much money getting to this point I feel obligated to stay. I do not recommend this social experiment of hell.

On 8 May 1999 I heard advertisements for The Joker's Jinx . I remember I didn't like the ads for the ride, but I knew I would certainly ride this ride. The day I went to the park, I rode many rides, because I know the line for this ride would be long no matter what time I went. When I finally arrived to the ride, the line was long, but there were refreshments for those in line. The lemonade hit the spot and I had plenty of time before I rode the ride to get the fluid into my system. When I saw the paint job for the Joker, I never thought emerald green and purple went well together, BUT THEY DO. Oh, I was young back then. I even bought a Joker's Jinx tee shirt. At that time I wore a large tee shirt. I don't remember what happened to the shirt, but I know I through...no...I believe I gave it to good will. When I finally got to the gated area, you had to pass by several mirrors that made you look distorted. For my first experience I went straight to the back where I had to wait a little longer. Why, because the rear is tighter? Because I like it in the rear? Or because the rear of the car is the fastest. This answer is the best answer. The front is the slowest, but the rear end gets pushed forwards because of the force of the front of the car. The middle seats are a natural point. In this case since it is a blast coaster it pretty much doesn't matter until you feel the rear end of the car moving faster from the pulling of the rest of the cars. The spiraling looks to the side way turns make this rollercoaster a lot of fun. Listening to one of the operator say "Hands Up, hands up, I wanna see your hands." Once everyone's hands were up, he would hit the go button and everyone in the coaster cars would shoot forwards. I would love to say The Joker's Jinx started the blast coasters craze, but it wouldn't be true. Still, I had a lot of fun. This ride is a steel ride and steel rides have been know to be smoother than the wooden rollercoasters. I wouldn't mind going on this ride again. I would call this a high thrill ride.

Didja get all that? Good. Moving on.)) This wild mouse coaster previously called Gurnee, Illinois its home, where it was beloved by many enthusiasts who knew how to work the ride to their advantage. But since it was moved here to mid-Maryland they got rid of the cool entry façade themed like a building from New Orleans' French Quarter. The cars are fairly cramped and if you aren't sitting with someone next to you, your ass will literally be sliding all over the place (which is WAY more painful than it sounds). The trick to this -- and any other spinning coaster -- is to unevenly load weight in the car. By concentrating all of the mass onto either the far left or far right side, you're basically forcing momentum in that direction, which will result in far more free spinning than otherwise. Potential energy: it's simple physics, people. Even armed with this knowledge, you might still get some irregular motion, so basically the ride's a total crapshoot. The hairpin turns on the upper level are fun, as is the surprise bump on the lower level toward the very end of the ride, and the middle section can deliver some solid spinning sensations as mentioned above. Unfortunately, because of low rider throughput the lines can get damn long. 11/1/19 The greatest…read morelog ride I have been on. This ride did something I have never seen another log ride do.  This ride (before they changed it) started out going forwards.  Then part way through you went up a medium size hill and the boat rotated 180 degrees.  You then went down the second part of the ride backwards.  The best part of going backwards on this ride is this...YOU CAN SEE WHERE YOU'VE BEEN. Remember the words of Willy Wonka "Willy Wonka there's no earthly way of knowing which direction you are going." Well this is true and it was a lot more fun. Going up the last part of the hill in the head of Skull Mountain gave you the feeling of being in trouble. When you got to the top, the boat you were in did another 180 before you flew down the hill out of the Skull's mouth and into the river of spewage. You may notice the water is clear.   There was on one occasion the 180 degree machine at the end of the ride malfunctioned and some lucky riders got to go down the final hill backwards. My mind says I did once, but I think that is a bunch of bullocks. The wait time for this ride on a hot day could be two hours or more. Once again Six Flag associates would stand by this ride selling drinks and food. I saw this bit of information about Skull Mountain's closing. I was there during the last 14 days it would be open two different times. "Six Flags America has revealed that it will close the Skull Mountain water ride on July 10, 2011, in order to make room for a new attraction that will open in 2012. The closure of the hybrid water ride/rollercoaster is set to be marked by a number of special events at the park. On June 13, a boat will be placed on Six Flags America's midway to offer unique photo opportunities for guests. Then, on July 9 and 10, Skull Mountain's demise will be commemorated as part of a special "Fare-thee-Well Weekend", including a two-day Pirate Festival. This will feature pirate makeovers and special entertainment from the cast of The Blundering Buccaneers stunt show. Those wishing to be one of the last ever riders on Skull Mountain can enter a special auction, with proceeds benefitting the Natioal Rollercoaster Museum and Archive. The park will also donate a boat from the ride to the museum following its closure. Speaking of the ride, Six Flags America's Park President John Winkler said: "For more than a decade, guests at Six Flags America have been thrilled and inspired by Skull Mountain, giving them the feeling of joining a one-of-a-kind pirates' voyage in Maryland's favorite theme park. It's a piece of history for Six Flags America and we feel it's fitting to give it one last stand." Skull Mountain opened at Six Flags America in 1997, and was originally named the Typhoon Sea Coaster. An Intamin reversing boat ride, it received its new name when it underwent a major update in 2007. A first-of-its-kind attraction, it was the tallest water-powered coaster in the world when it opened. No details have been revealed of the planned replacement for Skull Mountain, though it has been widely rumored that a new rollercoaster will open at Six Flags America in 2012." Yes, there is a new rollercoaster that took the place of Skull Mountain.  I did not care for this ride myself, but I will write about that later on.  I am just glad part of Skull Mountain is still left.  The last time I was there,  it was till up.I don't  think they took it down.  Well, at least I have the memories of riding it before it went the way of the dodo. I think people that don't like rollercoasters much or at all, might enjoy this ride, but now we will never know. I rate this ride a five, but if I could go higher, it would be a 12.

This isn't a ride anymore. It hasn't been a ride for years. I'm not sure why it's still on here…read more Don't listen to the other reviews

This rollercoaster has,a good layout, also a good theme, also a good name, but the coaster is rough…read moreI rode it 2 times the first time it made my head hurt and I had a headache for the next 45 mins,it has some good airtime hills too,but I know that Wooden coasters are rough but that one is to rough it is fun overall but the only flaw is that it is too rough.

Screams of fear and joy. This beautiful wooden rollercoaster became my favorite at Six Flags America. Superman:Ride of Steel is one of my favorites, but Superman ain't saving shit when it comes to this mighty Roar. This ride does have some jerkiness to it, but it has its smoothness too. Also "there were originally two roller coasters, with the first one built in 1998 at Six Flags America followed by the second one which was built in 1999 at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Both rides were designed and built by Great Coasters International (GCI). In 2015, Discovery Kingdom announced the retirement of Roar at its theme park, but the park later revealed that it was being renovated and transformed into The Joker with I-Box track technology from Rocky Mountain Construction." At least the body structure was saved so the Joker's Roar can still be felt. I have been on this ride 5 consecutive times before I had to leave the station and do it again. If this confused you i will explain. If you ride the rollercoaster and no one is standing at the gate where your sitting, you don't have to get up. You can stay and ride the ride again. If someone is there, but no one is in the cars behind you or in front if you, you can get into that car and ride the ride. It beats having to walk around to ride the ride again. I highly recommend riding this ride and you might even ROAR.
