    Park

Anacostia Park is the best thing about Anacostia. It has a great view along the river across to the rest of the city. Just along the river is a long bike trail. Lots of open space to stretch out. This is also accessed by the bridge if you're in Capitol Hill and want to go over there. Best thing about it is the trail where you can get some good exercise. It has a lot of bikers and runners. This trail goes on for many miles so you can get quite a workout. Also this park is pretty good for kids. There's a pretty big playground. It has a pirate ship they can play on. The other good thing about the park is the view. It goes along the river. There's a lot of green space. It kind of gets sketchy in the area around the park in Anacostia. One way to get here is the bridge. This way is usually safe and on the bridge there's some good views.

The Anacostia Park is presently a quiet space with a few buildings that are largely abandoned (either before or after COVID), some paths containing a mix of joggers in athleisure wear with earpods in to walkers in TWD sense (seems that way, anyway). It's also notable for its large reserve of free parking, and a variety of plastic picnic tables with the impressions of hot pots melted into them. The river itself, once a post-industrial wasteland, has slowly gotten cleaner over the years. My prevailing sense of the area as of this writing is one of anticipation. New bridges are under construction, and likely a revitalization of the park and the river. The river is a resource that has been mistreated and abandoned for too long. At present, it's a good enough space to go walking while it's light out.

Let me count the ways I LOVE Anacostia Park: 1) It's one of the best running trails in all of DC. It stretches for miles along the Anacostia River and the path is well kept for runners. 2) There's a lot of green space to picnic and enjoy nature. 3) There are hidden gems throughout from murals under highways and even a famous skating ring. 4) It's great for kids. One of DC's best playgrounds complete with a pirate ship is in the park. I could go on and on so instead how about you head on over to Anacostia Park and check it out for yourself. It's a GREAT spot!

    Happy dog! Lots of space!

I can't believe this park isn't swamped with people every weekend! Actually - I almost want to keep this review to myself so this park doesn't get "discovered." Anyways - long story short, this park has a a great trail, huge grassy expanses, a rec center, picnic tables... and all along the water. Gorgeous. Our dogs love it here.

I've only really used Anacostia Park for their skating pavilion (polished concrete surface) or to skate alongside the water. There are big grassy areas for soccer/ultimate, and basketball courts. Whether it be humid and full of mosquitoes, or chilly and rainy, Anacostia Park's Skating Pavilion is covered, but in no way sheltered from the elements. Also, there's no lighting so you better get your skating in well before sunset. Sometimes there's really loud soul and R&B music playing, which makes for fun times. The bathroom is serviceable near the skate park and there's plenty of parking. I know skate rental is available from Memorial Day to Labor Day during the day, but usually I bring my own skates when it's warm enough outside. On summer weekends, there can be a lot of families with kids skating, and sometimes there are semi-organized skate demonstrations by artistic skaters. Specifically for derby girls: *No tape is allowed on the floor of the track because it lifts up the finish *There are four marks on the polished concrete (probably from former tape usage) that mark a WFTDA track *There is no hitting/contact at the skate pavilion (roller hockey is banned from here, probably for this reason). You can lean on each other or do packwork, but nothing like hip checks *The bathroom sucks to change in. If you can change before you get here, do it.

I love this park and have only visited a couple of times. The reason it gets a 3 is because if the bathrooms!!!!! It didn't smell which is good but the water in the toilet was permanently brown- concerning but the worst of all is ........ NO RUNNING WATER! They had soap but no water. There were families, kids, birthday parties, BBQ and the bathroom had no water- soap but no water! Fortunately I had my water bottle. But back to the park in one side you have the flavor, street vendors, food trucks, a drum session was happening, lots of diversity folks from different backgrounds it is what a community supposed to look like but in the other side across the river by the naval yard you have another boring water front with blank faces. It was quaint and lovely but BORING all of DC is starting to look exactly the same all over. Folks want the city culture and flavor but then make it dull. I hope "the other side of the river" maintains its culture. That fake hipster shiggity is blah. Rock on Anacostia - love the park and the new trail. Close to metro free parking in the metro garage on the weekend. Just fix the bathroom issue.

COOL National Park! The outdoor skating pavilion is a fun and fitting addition to the Anacostia community. On the weekends, a DJ spins funk, go-go, and hip-hop music. Kids and adults are just skating/flying by having fun. Some are pulling off amazing tricks (splits, standing splits, 360s!); one man was wearing a cape and, of course, having a blast; one girl had birthday balloons tied to her belt loop trailing her as she skated. And skate rentals are FREE! (Just drop off an ID as collateral and you're good!) I've lived in the DC area (Alexandria specifically) for pretty much my whole life; I had no idea that Anacostia had such a cool NATIONAL PARK. Check it out 11am-6pm on weekdays, and 11am-7pm on weekends.

    Very interactive Pirate Ship playground.

Great multi use park for patrons of all ages! You can ride your bike, ride your boat, fish, jog and so much more. Took away a star because the bathroom facilities did not have running water or hand soap.

Kids may still have fun, but this is a subpar destination due to its lack of maintenance and all the noise from the expressway looming over it and directly adjacent. The adaptive swing has cracked plastic and doesn't lock, a merry-go-round thing barely moves, the slides are incredibly slow, etc. Tip: Eastern Market Metro Park near 8th and Penn SE is a better bet if you care about playgrounds. This place is OK for a picnic under the mature trees, if you don't mind the din of highway traffic. It also has an embankment on the western edge that is suitable for wintertime sledding. On the plus side, when my four-year-old and I were there this month, she spotted a rat trapped in the bottom of the metal trash can by the playground. So, although we would never feed pests, we showed mercy on the distressed beast. We got a good amount of memorable and free enjoyment by rescuing it from dehydration and heat exhaustion using an empty chip bag to lift it to freedom, then watching it scurry into concrete blocks under the highway. Ah, the simple joys, haha

Be sure to check out the playgrounds even if you don't have any kids. They have one for adults too. Getting here from Capitol Hill doesn't take long. It still seems like it's quite a ways away though. This also is close to the Navy Yard. One bad thing is that it can be noisy because of the traffic on the freeway. There's a concrete wall separating the park from Interstate 395, which is where the noise comes from especially when it's rush hour, so if you want a quiet and relaxing visit avoid coming here at those times. Other than that it's one of the best parks around. The playground is cool for kids. If you're an adult you also have your own place to play next to it. They have adult sized playground equipment so you don't have to worry about being too heavy to play on these. It overall is one of the best parks in DC. Other than the freeway noise there's a lot of other things to like about it. This is a nice way of getting from Capitol Hill to the Navy Yard.
