This place has a ton of landscape materials, a huge variety of choices. That's it. As a customer you're on your own trying to navigate your way in this huge place. First of all the showroom is located waaaay at the back of the yard. This is where you need to start to find out the process for selecting and loading materials. TIP #1: Place showroom at the front near the entrance. I go in and stand in line in the showroom. When my turn comes I ask about prices of some things. The price is right there he tells me. Then the associate goes out to figure out where I was and find the price. He does not find the price either. But he has come back with a number and he opens one of several 3-ring binders to look it up. The associate next to him tells him it's not in any of those binders. It's in a sheaf of papers lying on the counter. Okay, so the price is $XX/ton. At this point I sigh in exasperation and ask him to translate it into sq feet ...This WHOLE process is repeated for the 3 other items of interest to me. TIP #2: Give customers purchase lists and pencils as they enter - a la Ikea - so they can write item numbers down as they wander around. Or have laminated cards by each palette that customers can pick up to bring into the showroom. This can save a ton (or sq ft) of time and consternation. All the major big box stores basically told me "Good luck" and the suppliers the previous owner used were no longer in business or had given up on sprinkler systems deferring me to online suppliers. I'm stubborn and want to support local businesses, so I persisted and found Hedberg Supply. Am I glad I did! This company has awesome staff that are very helpful to DIYers like me and will spend time helping you, even for a small sale. They even give a military discount. They have every part you could possibly think of for underground sprinkler systems; if they don't have it at this location, they will see if another location has it and let you know where to get it. Terrible customer service. They doubled the weight of our rocks and almost kicked us out for asking them politely to reweigh them. Its sad because they are pretty convenient for the local community but we will drive anywhere in the future to avoid this place. Every employee was upset or basically "not friendly". I hope they get their scale fixed soon and hire nicer employees. read more

We used Hedberg for supplies to build a retaining wall and a paver patio. After we purchased our supplies, we realized we forgot to bring the 10% off coupon. I tried to call them to see if they would honor the coupon. They were adamant that we could only use for future purposes and would not make an adjustment. The person on the phone was rude. They have a decent selection of materials, but they are lacking in customer service. I will not be using them for supplies in the future. read more

Looking for a clean-out kit for a pond. My wife calls Monday, and they say they have it in stock. I call just to be sure before I go on Tuesday, and they don't even know what it is. I explain. They leave for a while. They have one, but it's in Farmington. They'll transfer it on Wednesday. I call Thursday, the day after the transfer (They didn't call). Is it there? They don't see it. Can they call me back? 2-1/2 hours later, yes they have it. Friday I call. This time they have it. I go, wait in line, then ask. They can't find it at first. When they find it, it's only a pump - no discharge hose or connectors, no box, no manual, just a pump. They say I should use the hose from my other pump. I tell them I don't *have* another pump, that this was supposed to be a cleanout *kit*. They tell me this is a discontinued model. They ask someone else, who digs up a box with a discharge hose and clamps - but they'll have to charge me for it separately. But they'll give me a discount on the pump, because it's been discontinued. I can't get the hose connected to the pump, but manage to get my pond cleaned out by holding the hose in place. I figure I must be missing a part, so I go back to the store. I tell them I think there's a part missing. The woman at the pond desk takes a look, says she doesn't know what's supposed to be in the kit, because it's discontinued. She can't look it up anywhere, she can't help us. The woman in Farmington who transferred the pump to Plymouth is on vacation. We could call on Monday. I suggest returning the pump, then purchasing it again on Monday once I know the kit is complete. She says she would have to charge me a 20% "restocking" fee. Finally she finds a picture on the internet that shows the hose attached and prints it out for me. At home, I put the end of the hose in boiling water and manage to stretch it enough to get it over the fitting on the pump. I'll add to the previous reviewer's tips: If you're going to sell retail, (1) KNOW your products, (2) Don't sell leftover parts as if they were new, and (3) Act like you CARE about your customers. I won't be going back. Update: Looking online, I found what is missing: Quick Disconnect Fittings. I will call them on Monday and update my review. read more

Stopped in mid-afternoon on a Tuesday in July. Three employees and six customers left me with the impression that there was going to be a wait. Wandered around a little and then left. Sent an email to their website box with the three questions that I was hoping they could answer for me. Didn't hear back. Not sure how to be their customer, but reading the other reviews, and factoring in my brief experience, I can totally see why you might want to go elsewhere. Sadly, in my opinion this just seems to be one of those (presumably) successful businesses that succeed in spite of themselves. read more

Consider this a cautionary tale: I purchased stone from Hedberg in October for re-doing a fireplace in my home. Upon ordering I was told the stone from this quarry arrives in 1.5 - 2 weeks. A week and a half later I called to see if my stone had arrived, the person I spoke to said they needed to talk to purchasing (this was a common theme, every time I called I was put on hold or was told someone would call me back after they spoke to purchasing). I was told it would be another two weeks before the stone would arrive. When I pressed on why this was much longer than the initial timeframe communicated I was never given an answer. I pressed them to see if this order could be fulfilled sooner as this new timeframe would leave a half completed fireplace for Thanksgiving. Again they would speak to purchasing. A new date of only an additional week delay was set. Week later I called back (another common theme, at no point during this did Hedberg proactively call me, I initiated all communication). I was told that my stone was not in and they would need to speak to purchasing; no one called back with a new date, so I had to call again. New date was another week out. I explained that I had booked a mason to do this work, and he had turned down other work to complete my project prior to Thanksgiving. I now had to pay my mason for his time with no materials to work with. Another promise to speak to purchasing about what could be done. I called back later that day for an update; they could put a rush on the order. Normally there is a charge for this, but they would waive that charge. However, since they never called me back, and I finally called back at the end of the day, the rush would still take two additional days. Had they just moved forward with the rush I would have saved a day. Two days later I called that morning to see if my stone was in yet. It was. Again, at no point during this process did Hedberg contact me informing me of delays, or even informing me when my stone arrived. I spent extra money to get my fireplace complete prior to hosting Thanksgiving. My mason was *literally* walking out the door of my house Thanksgiving morning as my family arrived in the driveway. A week later I went back to Hedberg to return one unused box of stone. I was told that it was a special order and it could not be returned. 1) When ordering I specifically ordered and extra box on the advice of their salesperson who told me that if it wasn't used it could be returned. 2) I'm baffled how this was a special order considering it was a stone they have on display right behind their desk in the showroom. 3) Nowhere on my receipt did it state this item was not returnable (other purchases/receipts did state some specific items that were not returnable). The woman I spoke to did finally agree to take back the stone, but said she couldn't waive the 10% restocking fee. Really? After all of this, you are going to nickel and dime me for 10%? I strongly urge you to take your business elsewhere as my experience with Hedberg was that of a complete lack of customer service at all levels. read more
