I've only stopped in during late winter/early spring, and it's a dream to feel the perfect breeze & warmth on of the greenhouse with the best natural lighting. The selection is amazing, there are 3 varieties of lavender for example. It is easy to spend over $20 with just a few items in the cart, it looks like most things start at $5. Parking lot always has cars but I've never had any issues finding a spot. The staff is super helpful and friendly. read more

Very beautiful green house has a lot of different plans, so many beautiful gifts, yard and room decorations. Very nice and beautiful display, and the place is spacious and clean. Staffs are nice and friendly. Depends on what you do you're buying some stuff or a hit a mist on price some are that expensive versus some are very affordable, especially on the type of plant that you're buying. Overall prices are decently marked like other nurseries also. I found some nice rare plants and pot. Great place to come for a stroll. I like their royalty reward program. Got a very nice Japanese maple, larch, and juniper tree to turn into a bonsai. They have some really rare, unique plants that I have not seen at other nursery. read more

My most beautiful plants are from this greenhouse. Also, I see a lot of restaurants in Wayzata have plants from this greenhouse as well as some stores like West elm. The plants are really huge size, difficult to find anywhere else. The prices are a bit astronomical. That's the only downside of getting plants from here, especially when you're new to care taking of plants. I have one plan that I purchased for $150 in its not doing so well . This little pocket jungle in the city is a perfect sanctuary for plant lovers. The aisles are filled with plants by their family and the rows go on forever. Finding the perfect plant, herb, decoration for your home is a breeze with the way the store is set up. The employees are always helpful and certainly knowledgeable I've never had a stumped team member and I always ask a question when I shop. The price may be Slightly higher than items at another store but I think you pay for the quality you receive. Some of the art is local and handmade and there's so much variety anyone will find something they love. One of my favorite spots to spend an hour or so on the weekend! They have an extensive plant selection as well as gorgeous decorative pottery items to choose from that are displayed in beautiful color schemes. If you are looking for inspiration, this is the place to go. The staff is very knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions and give tips on how to take care of your plants. Tonkadale is one of the few places in the cities, that I know of, where you can count on finding a rare plant selection ruin. They have a specific area focused on the extremely hard to find items and it seems to be growing a bit each time I stop in. The selection and quality definitely comes at a price though. The 4 stars is simply reflective of the prices. Rare plant prices are expected to be high but it's the "standards" that seem to be consistently higher than what I've seen at other greenhouses that keeps me from buying all my plants at tonkadale. They do have a frequent shopper program where you build up points for credit off a future purchase that is free to join. I would recommend everyone sign up. Even if you don't think that this is a place that you'll frequent it doesn't hurt to build up the points and get the credit as a surprise in the future. This is definitely a place worth visiting, every time you'll find something new! read more

Loved exploring this greenhouse to get my garden boxes ready for summer! The selection here is UNMATCHED. I have visited a few local greenhouses and I have to say this was worth the trip. So many plants here you can't get at your average greenhouse. The prices reflect this. Everything is more expensive than a typical greenhouse. If flowers/plants are important to you, this is your place! They do a great job communicating where things are on a map. I found it fun to just wonder up and down and make a few passes through. Parking in the lot can be tough. Beware if you go on a weekend you may have to street park. The rewards program is also great. For every $200 spent, you get $20 in rewards. This place is literally plant paradise! I had been hearing about them and ventured over with the intention to "just look" and walked in and was met with the most amazing greenhouse I have come across in the twin cities! So many plants and they were all in excellent health. I was just amazed! I ended up taking home two plant babies of course. Their prices were also completely reasonable as well! I was thrilled. Tonkadale is where you wanna go for all your plant needs and wants! It usually takes a lot of willpower for me to leave without bringing home any new houseplants. Recently, I visited and attended a seminar they hosted featuring Darryl Cheng, author of 'The New Plant Parent.' What a beautiful space to have the seminar in, and they even provided snacks and drinks! I love that they invited someone like Darryl - his view of holistic plant parenting has helped me immensely! Tonkadale has a wide selection of plants, and they are great quality. The price point is higher than what you'd find at Home Depot/Lowe's but the plants are much healthier and happier-looking at Tonkadale. It's a good thing that Tonkadale is far from where we live. Such a beautiful greenhouse! The staff are all kind and helpful with any questions about care and keeping of the plants. The plants are expensive compared to ikea, menards, Costco but you can tell that the plants are in better health. Some plants are overpriced but there are definitely some affordable $10 plants decently sized. All of the succulents I've gotten there have lived a long happy life. read more

Tonkadale has a variety of plants to pick from. The greenhouse is pretty big. The humidity wasn't that bad when I went but it was rainy and cold outside. They have pots, decors and supplies as well. The staff are friendly. This local greenhouse brings me joy! I enjoy walking through their wide assortment of pots and plants. If you're lucky enough, you'll spot their greenhouse cats. They do have a higher price point for plants, but they are in better condition than a big box store and planted in quality soil. I often shop here for a basic planter or a unique plant, but my good experience stops at the products. I am knocking down my rating due to a situation where the staff was rude to me. I visited during the weekday and arrived 20 minutes before closing. I was purchasing a gift and knew exactly what I wanted. When I walked in the greeter wasn't friendly and made sure I knew they were closing soon. 5 minutes later, she found me to tell me they were closing again. Not only did I have several minutes before they actually closed, she did not offer help or was kind enough to ask what I was searching for. I was the last guest in the store, so they decided to turn off the lights. I left immediately after because it was such a stressful experience. I came back days later and made sure I was at the check out line 15 minutes before closing. Since there were more guests in the store, they did not turn off the lights or rush them out the door - they left the store open longer. The staff also lacks diversity which is important to me in a business. read more

Loved shopping here, even with the high prices, until an encounter with a staff member today. My kids had picked up decorative grasses and swept them on the ground. We put them back and they looked the same as when we picked them up. The staff member then told us we needed to pay for them cause they were not good for other customers now. We came here to see Santa! They have such an amazing holiday set up, it is the cutest dang thing you'll ever see and you will want to buy everything. Awesome displays. The wait for Santa was about an hour - but we didn't show up at opening hours so it was kind of expected. Tonkadale is truly magical. They have SOO many plants, pots, decor, supplies, etc. etc.!! It's never ending, you could easily spend hours going up and down every aisle. You can tell they truly care about their plants and customers. They keep the humidity high so be prepared to sweat - I recommend wearing light layers! Their prices are reasonable, they may be higher than big-box stores but it's worth it since they take such good care of their plants. Best part - they allow dogs inside. :) There are also tables, water, and plenty of space to relax if you are with someone who doesn't care to watch you fawn over plants! read more

I've have been a very loyal customer of Tonkadale for years. Not any more. My husband and I drove a distance to purchase our spring flowers and were turned away at the door because we didn't have 'reservations'. Being that we've been long term customers, you'd think they would proactively notify their customers of their reservation policy or at least post it on their website. At the time I wasn't aware that they were charging couples $50 just to shop! There is a smaller flower shop/nursery down the road and we had a very good shopping experience there - very helpful staff and had what we were looking for. This review is actually painful to write. I grew up going to Tonkadale greenhouse and have many wonderful memories of picking out plants with my family. Now my husband and I make the same trip every year to add to our garden. I'm sad to say, this will be the last year. In a time of such uncertainty, I was very excited to see it appeared Tonkadale was taking extra precautions when it came to protecting their customers and staff from the spread of COVID-19. I saw they were taking appointments, to minimize the foot traffic in the greenhouse at any given time, and a mask would also be required. We made an appointment for a weekday in the afternoon and made our way to the greenhouse. We were greeted by a packed parking lot. There were no spots available. We circled a few times and finally found a spot- this should've been our first red flag. To say the Tonkadale was packed would be a gross understatement. Very few people seemed to be practicing any form of social distancing, some of them removing their masks because "these are so uncomfortable!" We had a plant on hold, so we got in line to purchase. Once we went to pay, the reader was having a hard time with the chip on our card. The cashier came around the plexiglass, said "let me try" and started messing with the card. She wasn't wearing gloves, and without pause went and stood within inches of my husband. He began to back up, and she quickly took the extra space beside him to continue messing with the reader. He ended up just walking about 8ft away and gave her his PIN from that distance. Once our item was paid for, we quickly left. It's one thing to have people shop by appointment ($25/person) to limit foot traffic... but it appears that too many appointment times are offered, which means a packed greenhouse. I am so disappointed in Tonkadale and their idea of "safety" during this pandemic. read more

I used Tonkadale long distance-all the way from Michigan- to send a memorial for a funeral of a loved one in Minnetonka. I called during their busy season (mid-May) right in the middle of the pandemic and was wondering if I would even be able to accomplish my plan. They were AMAZING to work with. After sending an email inquiry, Jessie arranged a phone call and helped me select a cairn and two plants to go with it. She even went in the greenhouse and shopped for me as we discussed the options. I planned a trip to Tonkadale (40 min away)a few days ago expecting an atmosphere of spring chaos, and in my case wariness of a busy public place where many chose to ignore social distancing or the wearing of masks. I was so pleasantly surprised! The center had clearly placed signs indicating that everyone MUST wear a mask and leave six feet between customers. OK, that wasn't a surprise. What was a (pleasant) surprise was that the standard was respectfully enforced. All staff wore masks, customer limit was posted and as people shopped and exited, those of us waiting in line were invited in. The greenhouse itself was extremely well stocked with the usual array of beautiful, well tended plants, and because of the business' sticking to the policies posted, I had no concern about even meeting another customer in the narrow aisle ways. I able to get my list filled, and the trip turned out to be a bit of a respite from the typical anxiety I experience when out beyond my home environment. I felt respected, cared for and so safe for the first time since perhaps February. Thank you Tonkadale owners, managers and employees for going way above and beyond. You made my Spring!! read more

I will not be returning to Tonkadale Greenhouse. Very unfriendly "bouncer" near the front of the store. I arrived at 9:03am on a cold weekday and there were only 2 other customers that I could see the entirety of my trip. My child and I were both wearing masks the entire time and did not come within 15 feet or more of anyone in the almost empty greenhouse (except to purchase our plants). The employee at the front was staring at us the entire time. It was very uncomfortable and she would not stop. I kept thinking she would offer help but only scolded my 3 year old when his mask slipped below his nose. I feel as though she just stares and waits for you to make a "wrong" move. Not a pleasant shopping experience at all. Again, masks were being worn and we were obeying all social distancing requirements (and then some). I couldn't wait to leave! read more

The store would not allow my daughter in the store because she did not have a mask on. She is 4 years old and this fits well within the state guidelines. When I asked, they said their store has a different policy (under the age of 2). Additionally, I was in this store the weekend before, and my 4 year old did not wear a mask. No issue. While the prices are a bit pricey, the selection and quality of the plants are worth it. They also have quite a variety of fairy garden items with fairy garden samples. I was on my way from one meeting to another and had a free hour, so typed in "nurseries" on my phone. This was on the list, and I sure am happy I stopped! It was mid March, and they are the first with pansies - maybe early, but what a delight for the winter eyes! I have a greenhouse, so was happy with the huge collection of indoor plants, and succulents and cacti. They also have a large selection of pots for inside and out. Prices for succulents were comparable or better than other nurseries, with better selection. I plan to come back to see the outdoor selection soon! read more
