I attended a charity event that was at the El Casino ballroom last weekend. This southside venue…read morehosted an event with hundreds of people attending. There was a private parking lot and a huge central space where food was brought in from the outside for a fundraiser for a local chef. There was a wall with numerous bars and several bartender staffing for our event. What I think was most fun was the casino tables since I don't normally gamble and since this was a charity event, we had were each given chips to game with the venue is somewhat dated however, the temperature was very comfortable for a hot time in Tucson and it was spotlessly clean, any trash that was left in the trash cans was removed instantly by staff and things seem to be running very smoothly. So for someone wanting to have a quinceanera or a wedding this seems like a good spot especially since they had a gated parking lot especially for the venue. Parking is so tricky in Tucson. That's a big plus.

But I want to let others know about our experience because I want to make sure it does NOT happen to future brides. I think this will mostly be about things that went wrong. And we did express our complaints to the owner but did not receive a sincere apology. Again, these are OUR issues and hopefully they can be corrected and improved in the future. *The barn door jammed for my sisters first look for her bridesmaids. Ruined moment. *The coordinator was very nice and did help us a lot in the bridal suite. But when it came to having things ready it was not so put together. She did not have ready the "Aras" or "Lazo" which is part of our tradition when getting married. When the time came, we stood there for a good 5-10 min before my mother had to run and go find it to which then the coordinator brought up. No one made an announcement or apologized. Then she pretty much disappeared the rest of the night. *I barely made it to the entrance song because it was not announced for the bridal party to gather. * The DJ RUINED their first dance because he played the wrong song and did not apologize. We gave him a whole set list to play of which NONE of the music was represented. He only played one line dance song where he got out on the dance floor but that was it. And coming from a Hispanic family, he did not play ANY Mexican music. Half the wedding did not dance at all. He did not announce any events so we did not know when cake cutting was happening or if things were placed out. For guests to view. Guests book signing, momentos to take home were not touched because no one knew about. *We had a High school mariachi band come play during dinner but then after they were somehow allowed to go into the bridal room and just "hang out"??? I don't know who said they could go back there but I was shocked when I went to get something and they were all lounging around our personal items!? I mean bras were thrown and everything back there! That was a big issue for me. Not appropriate. *When dinner came we had ok'd all guests to be allowed to have both entrees. I find out later that one side was offered only a choice instead of both! We had so much food leftover because of this! And the food was not as good as at the tasting. *The bar had pre made cocktails in pitchers instead of making them individually, so they were very strong. And if you had a drink, you had to drink it quickly because they'd come around and pick it up even if it was still full! Such a waste of all our bought liquor and beer. *They allowed guests in the ballroom while we were trying to take pictures of the bridal party so we had to have them go back out which was embarrassing. Then when we requested the guests to enter earlier after photos due to the weather it took another hour to make the announcement. *Not enough cocktail hour food! *Wedding party did not receive any snacks for cocktail hour. *The backdrop in the Photo Booth was not even up! It was supposed to be a newspaper setting and it was just a black curtain. *Not enough dessert and they were serving in paper boats that my uncle had provided for his nachos bar. *They had very young people serving who did not know how to serve or plate. *DJ did not announce the last dance!!!! They missed it and by then everyone had gone because the music sucked. AGAIN, just our experience but I hope those who take time to read this will be appreciative and take time to make sure everything goes how they expect it. And have a boss or someone you trust in charge of the little things to stay on top of them because they didn't seem to care much after they were paid. They were given programs to know exactly how we wanted things to go and they did not deliver.

The area is at the base of Sombrero Peak so the west setting sun is blocked by the peak so a 5 o'clock wedding is perfect without being under the blazing sun. Indoor dining is served with a table by table help yourself dinner. The space is elegant and comfortable and provides a great dining experience with a variety for the bride and groom speeches and then dancing. Did I mention plenty of parking. The staff, the views, the professionalism was definitely a 5 stars.

The reason for one star: they ruined our sand ceremony keepsake. Once the reception started our gifts, cards and sand kit was placed inside. Once the party was over they lock up. Understandable it's someone's home. That's when I realized our sand kit with our sand keepsake was locked inside. I asked if we can go grab it and they refused. Ok again I understand that it's someone's house but none of the staff or anyone working there offered to go back inside and grab it. I asked when can we get it and They said Monday! Wedding was on a Saturday and We're from Phoenix so it's a bit of a drive. So we drive back to the mansion to pick it up and they left the box on the porch. I grab it and opened it up and they had turned the box upside down so the sand was falling out and it got all mixed up! Now every time I look at our keepsake I'm reminded of how terrible they were to us and how they had no consideration for our belongings. Just throw it outside on the porch. It is all inclusive so the price includes most of the vendors you need but most importantly they do not charge you all of the little extras like cutting the cake and uncorking the wine. Awesome concert venue with parking really being the only concern. This review, however, is for an…read moreevent... the weekly Salsa Thursday Social. And let me put this out there as a fair disclaimer, I've got two left feet. We chose the 7pm option ($17) which included an hour of instruction to begin with. The other ticketing option starts at 8p ($7) and is the actual Salsa Social. I can only gush about the camaraderie and concerted effort that was uninhibitedly displayed by the delightfully wide-ranging crowd of about 100 during the 8p social. Wide ranging in age, demographics, abilities, and with a near 50-50 gender balance too. The cathedral height and vast open floor created an auditory airiness and ample distance between everyone for salsa missteps. The lone frustration about this event was in the beginning 7pm hour. The experienced couple on stage, leading the instructions, polled everyone (roughly 50 folks at this phase) and about a 1/3 indicated they were true beginners. They then proceeded to demonstrate sequences at mind-boggling speeds. Eventually some folks urged them to slow down but then the transition to the next series of steps would occur barely 5 minutes later. At the half-hour mark you're trying to remember 4-5 sequences AND string them all together. Yes, there were lots of smiles, some surrenders, and flashes of brilliance (not me). My partner had a little informal salsa exposure through weddings and parties and even she could barely keep up with the instructions. Here's the catch-22. IF you can (truly) master these 6-8 basic sequences AND string them together AT salsa-music-speed, you can have a convincingly decent time during the 8p social. IF! So I get the urgency of mastering these modest starting sequences in the first hour. But for those beginners contemplating attending, simply know what you're getting into. Had I known what I now know, I probably would have been too intimidated to try at such a fast pace and instead opted for some private/studio lessons first. The Social hour really is a wonderful opportunity to explore your inner salsa, no matter your ability. The crowd is very forgiving. But your inner critic will probably want some fundamentals more buttoned up :)

Came for movie night ! Soo fun…read more The theme was ninja turtles and pizza ! 90's original movie of course , what a classic . Felt very speakeasy since the cafe , restaurant and night bar were only open for summer nights event .. loved that . Pizza at the coronet is my new number #1 in town ! Absolutely delicious. Told us about specials We're both sober and the mocktail options were phenomenal! I actually got two of the same type of mocktail which I rarely do. We shared the bruschetta which has an amazing flavor profile from sweet, salty, spicy. The menu said it had pepperoncini on it and when I think of pepperoncini I think of the bright yellow peppers which the peppers in the photo were definitely an elevated version if not homemade or sourced from a higher quality place, but the flavor on them was amazing. They offered for us to add an extra toast since we were splitting it between the two of us, so that way we had an even amount. I opted for the steak and my friend had a shrimp dish and we were just talking about how I'm allergic to shrimp but I can be around it. I just can't eat it and the waitress was kind enough to let me know the steak was marinated in an oyster sauce, ahead of time so that couldn't be changed and that attention to detail. I really appreciate it. I am not allergic to all shellfish just shrimp and lobster so that was kind of her to double check on my allergy. The steak was cooked to perfection and extremely flavorful. I really liked the salad as well. The coconut mochi cake was really the star of the show here it was a well done, toasted coconut flavor with a soft, moist cake and homemade whipped cream and sauce. We made sure to save room for dessert. I really loved this place maybe for a special occasion as it is more on the pricey side, but honestly, the level of ingredients, quality, attention to detail really stands out for the cost here the waitress even even boxed up my leftovers and held onto them so they wouldn't crowd our table. Phenomenal restaurant overall I can't wait to return and see what other items they will have further on.
