Not impressed with my experience. Selection of CD's and vinyl was good, but it was way overpriced. They don't even display the prices on the vinyl records--you have to scan them in yourself. I don't know any other store that does that! I'm taking my record shopping business elsewhere. They updated their location to 522 Fremont St. and though it might've been tough to find parking for, it was well worth it! The amount of records and CD's they had in such a cozy tight knit spot made it worth the trip. I forgot to catch names but it doesn't change that all the staff were very friendly and welcoming! The gentleman welcomed me and informed me about the store and was very knowledgeable of even the local record shops, they may only sell new records but not a problem for me since a lot of modern music is nice to browse and collect also! I even found a pretty nice vinyl of Jaw Of Life by Pierce The Veil for a nice discount so it was a must grab for me. A lot of modern music i haven't seen anywhere else that even more well known record shops didn't have from my visit. I ended up picking up 3 LP's and a 7 inch single all for a well worth it price! Will definitely recommend and will bring my sister back as well to browse their nice selection. Siren records is my favorite music store! They have a great selection of new releases and their staff is so friendly! I've been to other record stores in the area (including Santa Cruz) and this store has the most welcoming atmosphere. I don't feel like I am inconveniencing anyone by asking questions. Like other reviewers mentioned, they don't have their prices on the records themselves but there is a spot in the store where you can check the price. They also have their prices listed on their website that you can easily look up. I think most of their items are reasonably priced and you end up paying the same as you would online (after shipping) or at target/walmart. read more

I am an avid record store goer and go to many, this place is genuinely the best one i've ever been to. It's rare to come by record stores with new product and this place is filled with it. Everything is nicely organized and easy to find. One thing I was thrown off by was that there are no price tags on any of the records, but there is actually a price scanner on the side of the store to check prices, which is a neat feature that is probably time saving for the employees. I'm very happy about this store because I will be going to CSUMB in the fall and will definitely be a regular to this store!! read more

Vinyl records, eclectic CDs, and boxed CD/DVD available here! Plus purses..? Cute, clean little record shop next to a furniture store. A little on the pricey side, but everything is wrapped in plastic so it must be new. What I found interesting was all the new music that I didn't think would be available on vinyl. I updated this place by a star. I figured out that all of their inventory updated on the web. They have an eBay store and you can look up all the prices on their webpage. That solved my issue with the lack of prices marked on the records. All records are new. Prices were not too bad. I found some good deals. A great record in the clearance bin and some other stuff I never knew i needed. I placed an order for a vinyl before Christmas. I never got a call to tell me whether It came in or wasn't available. Smack dab in the middle of a residential neighborhood, where you drive and drive and wonder where you'll ever find this record shop, suddenly it appears. We'd called ahead of time to make sure they had the special reissue pressing of audiophile quality. They maxed sure it was for a local pickup. I was excited that a record store had opened near me. I went there looking for The Crow Soundtrack for a party I am spinning. I was told they didn't have any but that they will be getting some on Record Store Day so I left and came back right when they opened on that day. They still didn't have it and told me it would arrive in the next week. I came back later that week to find out that there was a sign up sheet to get that record that they never told me about. All of them were gone. I was never told about the sign up sheet even though I had talked to 3 different employees about that record. Now I, and those attending my function, are left without this key record. Also, there are no prices on any of the records, nor do they sell used records. If you want to know the price of a record you have to look it up on one of their small font 10 page lists. It took me 10 min to find the price of two records. In interacting with the employees I got the feeling that this is a Snooty snobbish place where special costumers get special treatment (like the opportunity to get on a list for their new deliveries). I was ignored multiple times while I was making obvious signs that I needed help. The employees purposely avoid eye contact. I buy hundreds of dollars in vinyl every year and my first few experiences with this store have put it on the bottom of my list for record shopping. read more

One of my all time favorite records stores in the Monterey county area. Has a very large variety of vinyls, even had an exclusive vinyl I was looking for. The shop owner is extremely friendly and great to talk to about shows in the area. Would definitely recommend people to go and check it out! read more

This vinyl store lives up to its store name, "Siren" because of the music that plays while shoppers peruse through record bins. I personally enjoyed how this particular store has records from artists that I didn't even know existed on vinyl. The prices aren't labeled on the actual record but at the counter is price list book so you can look it up if need be. read more

I went there recently and was relieved that Siren has new employees. Excellent customer service.

You won't find much in the way of original (classic) labels/original liner notes here, but the compilations, live recordings, etc. are well worth checking out. Lots of CD variety & things you won't find elsewhere. I'm not into handbags, but they sell those here, too, along with a variety of pop/rock/other music posters, DVDs... Really good prices (on the CDs, at least--I didn't check out the other media). This place is a hidden gem, just off North Fremont St. Support your local music store. read more

Interesting record store. A very large variety of new records but no used records that I could find. Also, nothing is priced. If you find something you want you need to get the price list from the counter and look up the item to get the price. For me this is a very confusing way to run a store. It's an inconvenience for the customer and a huge waste of time when you are flipping through record bins. My wife and I were away for a weekend and popped into Siren Records for the 4th time in 4 months (we live in Santa Cruz). I am an old school punk records shopper and I am always on the lookout for a cool reissue etc. Everytime that I have been in the store, I have been greeted by friendly faces. The pricing is a bit hard to get used to, but not an issue. I have enjoyed shopping there (as well as their online store on Discogs entitled Record Mule)....good place to go! read more

I have been doing business with Siren Disc via their website and Ebay for some time now. I am a big fan of the Oldies/Nostalgia genre. Siren Disc has an incredible selection of what I like. The customer service is great and they send out your order fast. I cannot find a lot of the items I like in stores in my area (I live in Lakewood, WA). Hats off to Siren Disc! Great selection of new vinyl. A wide variety of genres and prices which are competitive with other local record store. The staff is helpful and not overbearing (which generally seems to be a characteristic of record shop employees). You don't get the impression you're being judged by your taste in music. They're primarily an online outlet so you have to take the record you're interested in to the counter to get information on its price- this is kind of a bother, but if you have a smartphone you can use their website to look up prices. Siren's alphabetical ordering is spot on but the flow of it is a bit hard to follow in terms of its layout. They've sectioned off their jazz records, and I wish they would do more organizing by genre. This would make browsing easier, especially if you're going in with no particular purchase in mind. Overall a great record store- well worth a visit. read more

We recently purchased some records from Siren via Discogs and decided to check out their store while in Monterey for a trip. The store is bright, clean and well-organized with a moderate-sized selection of music. They have an "adopt-a-record" section where you can buy vinyl that was returned by other customers at a very low price. There are sticky notes describing the reason each item was returned (noise, skipping, warping, etc), so you can decide whether or not it's worth paying for. I got 2 records from this bin and both of them play fine on my turntable... at 5$ each, that's a pretty good score. The woman working in the store was really friendly - she even gave us a discount on our purchase, which was nice and unexpected. On top of that, I was super happy to find some of the Record Store Day 7"s that I hadn't been able to get locally - that alone would have made the trip worthwhile for me, but I like the store enough to make the 100 mile trip again in the future just to stop in there. read more
